I'd probably give the nod to Cabrera too, at least given our youth movement.

Cabrera is an option if our current coach isn't successful, but if the Rapids continue to play motivated football, and get results, why upset the apple cart? We are in one of those rare times of Rapids success/optimism. We can wait for the next 3-5 year drought and hire Cabrera then (he'll he available after his next gig flops).

Those ate really big ifs considering 7 of our final 10 are on the road and 8 of 10 are against teams currently in a playoff position.

Yes, an uphill stretch, but we played well against some of these teams recently, matched up fine. Please don't rain on my parade yet, but you have full right to give me a big 'told you so' toward the end of the season if the "Old Rapids" re-appear.

I'm also in the "let's wait on it" boat when it comes to selecting the coach.

I don't see any reason why they would regress to the "Old Rapids", or for the team to stop playing motivated football. Somehow or another, the team is playing with passion and a fight that I haven't seen since Jermaine Jones was on the field.

What's more, they really seem to enjoy playing with each other too.

Now, I'm not expecting us to win out the rest of the season. We're gonna lose some, win some, and tie some. That's just the way soccer works.

But by golly, I'm confident that the team is gonna keep playing like they have been. The first San Jose game certainly seems to have been blip on the radar over these last 13 games under Casey in terms of overall team performance.

I like what he's doing with the team. And whoever the Rapids decide to move forward with is going to have hungry players who want to make a big splash in the league in 2020.

Except, IMO, it wasn't. Don't forget the USOC game. We didn't look particularly good against New England on the 4th either. The team hit a rut in June and July. A rut they've bounced out of the last two games but that's a small sample size at this point to see if it was just a short dip or if we're going to end up looking more like June & July than Many & August (so far) the rest of the season.

Eh, I wouldn't say a rut in both June and July.

I know we didn't look particularly good in the USOC game. But that doesn't bother me any, because most teams in the league don't take it seriously, nor do I think the Rapids took it very seriously. And I don't particularly mind that we didn't take the USOC very seriously either. We played Sjoberg, Blomberg, Serna and Wilson in the starting XI, and Sjoberg got a red.

    Our results in league play?
    June:
    Vs Cincy - W
    Vs Minnesota - W
    @ Vancouver - T
    Vs LAFC - W

    July:
    Vs New England - L
    @ Portland - T
    Vs NYCFC - L
    @ SJ - L

July was a tough month. I'll cede that point to you. But look at those matches.

We got a come from behind point IN PORTLAND. Not many teams can say that. And, what's more, we were in it enough to have opportunities to win that game. I distinctly remember Shinyashiki's point blank shot being saved in that one.

We played our hearts out and went toe-to-toe with NYCFC while being down a man for 70% of the game.... Need I remind you we had the lead before the red?

San Jose, we got outcoached. Their tactics were superior to ours for the first 75 or so min. San Jose is also the second hottest team in the league - only behind LAFC. San Jose has dominated a lot of teams this season.

Finally, New England was on a big hot streak with Bruce Arena then, and have continued to look good. They are a different team now than they were at the start of the season. In the game we also had opportunities to tie it up late, but were denied by some great saves by NE's goalie.

Are the Rapids not allowed to have an off night here and there? You can't expect the team or the players we have right now to play perfect, or even look like the better side every single week. Heck, we can even look the better side and not have results go our way. That's soccer for you.

LAFC is really the only team in the league that has looked good every single week this season.. What Bob Bradley is doing there is at the next level compared to everyone else in the MLS - just like Tata Martino last year in ATL. The next closest to that in terms of on-field domination would be San Jose in the last several months.

Boy. What I would give to have a coach like Martino, Almeyda, or Bradley come in to our locker room and take the helm. Sure seems like a pipedream.

For the optimistic ones, we are playing in MLS...like Minnesota, etc. and *not* Ibrox, Old Trafford, and Camp Nou............

4-4-2 in last ten is a win for the team.

Tonight was much more like July's rut than the motivated Rapids we saw the last two games.

With Mike Petke now available I would LOVE to see him coach this Rapids squad.

He’s a hot head but a skilled, accountable, passionate manager.

So will you also ban every Liga MX team? Literally every Liga MX match I've been to has people shouting ******** throughout the match. It's akin to saying "ASSHOLE" in USA.

Sorry, but the word is misinterpreted by non-native speakers, and USA PC culture has it wrong to end Petke's career over this.

    A. That's bullshit when Conapred, the Mexican anti-discrimination agency, came out to say they consider it an anti-gay slur
    B. Petke didn't just shout it in the stands, he shouted it in the face of the refs on the field, shouted it at them in the tunnel, and then wrote it down and sent it to their locker room

Please, spare me your "PC culture" complaint. What he did to the refs was borderline fire-able before you even take into account what he said, and he knew exactly what he was saying to a Hispanic ref. Regardless of how it may be meant by some people that word is seen as a slur to many and nobody in the North American soccer culture should be ignorant of that. There's a reason that FIFA, the USSF, and the Mexican FA have been trying to eliminate the chant.

We don't need a coach that becomes that unhinged at the refs ever, but espeically one that loses it on largely accurate calls in a competition that nobody cares about. And we don't need one that uses language that a portion of the fanbase sees as a slur like he did.

I will believe that they are serious about eliminating it when Mexico starts playing WCQ in empty stadiums. $50K Mexico Federation fine is a joke.

Ehh ... he actually got the sign from a fan in the stands.

Sorry, but while I agree he is a hot head and was WAY out of line, native speakers don’t interpret the same offense as you do.

Go to any Spanish speaking game and prove me wrong.

Hell, I had someone call me a ******** for a bad tackle in a rec league game this summer.

P.C. “cancel culture” is wrong to end a career over this.

Well........ I don't need to say it. You beat me to it. Agreed. I couldn't have said it better myself. To go a step further, a man of that temperament and clear disregard for boundaries has ZERO business working under the big umbrella of American soccer. Period. Petke "blackballed" himself. Hard to argue against that. The slur he rattled off was surprising but an incident involving his temperament was trending upwards.

I’m just relating it to real life-from going to games and playing in games this is what I have experienced. Also from being around native Spanish speakers and what they use the term as.

Again, his behavior was terrible. But not enough to be completely removed from coaching.

However Petke is not a native speaker. And even some native speakers find the term offensive. FSL sponsors reportedly approached the team and threatened to distance themselves from FSL over the incident because they felt being associated with an organization that condoned the use of that language would be bad for their business.

And all of that aside, the organizations that MLS exists under (FIFA and the USSF) have said its offensive and has no place. See how far you get using language your company has deemed offensive even if you don't agree.

When the organization you work for and the organizations that pay your organization (fans and sponsors) react to the use of language like that it really doesn't matter if its "not offensive to some", its offensive to enough that you shouldn't have used the term. And Petke knew that (or should have known that) before he did it.

Yep - if the sponsors threaten to leave over the coach, then it’s time for him to go.

Just don’t act like ******** isn’t shouted at literally every Spanish speaking match.

Again, not defending it - and I do believe punishment is in order; but I don’t believe his career should be over.

Sounds like the owner didn't want to fire him initially either...

Apparently they also offered him a chance to "resign" but he turned it down

Anyway the story goes, I wouldn't want him to coach the Rapids. Or anyone that gets as unhinged as he does.

Think of some of the best coaches the league has seen:

    -Greg Vanney
    -Peter Vermes
    -Bruce Arena
    -Sigi Schmid
    -Jesse Marsch
    -Bob Bradley
    -Tata Martino

The list could go on, but if you think out of the best coaches the league has ever seen, the majority are fairly stoic on the sidelines 85-90+ percent of the time, don't constantly yell at players throughout the entirety of the game, and don't berate and argue with the officials when calls go the wrong way.

Now, I'm not saying that coaches shouldn't stand up for their players when they feel calls aren't going their way....but outbursts, and constantly yelling at everyone at all times? Not a fan.
