New WCQing format from CONCACAF means Canada REALLY needs to get results in the League of Nations.

Right now Canada is the 8th ranked team in CONCACAF.
That's unlikely to go up in the next set of rankings as they didn't beat anybody above them. Meanwhile Curacao in 9th beat Honduras and drew with Jamaica.
I don't know if Haiti in 11th will have picked up enough points to also pass them, but maybe...………………..

This has been Canada's problem over and over again. They can't pick up results in the Gold Cup, etc. They can't get their FIFA ranking up. They don't get seeded well when WCQing comes around, and they're given unfavorable draws.

The WCQing system for 2022 is going to provide a really challenging gauntlet for teams outside of the top 6. Not impossible of course, but difficult. And Canada once again looks like they're going to be outside the top 6.

So League of Nations results are going to be really important. They have two upcoming games against the Unites States. So damn important for them to get a result, particularly at home. They can win that group and then get another opportunity to knock off a highly ranked team in the knockout phase. Gotta do it.

This format is an absolute joke as it used FIFA ranking based on PAST performances.

In previous Gold Cup and Nation League Qualifiers m, we get stuck playing Martinique or French Guiana; countries that doesn't count against the ranking because their aren't FIFA Members.

Also the timing is terrible. If that format was shared with nations after the last world cup, nations could have acted accordingly by scheduling more friendlies, which really didn't matter that much in the grand scheme of themes as the WCQ was your way in the WC.

What motivated CONCACAF to pass this is beyond me but not even journalists from nations that are virtually a lock for the HEX supports this format.

As for making the HEX, Canada must win its group by winning both games against Cuba and at least one game + tie the US. Ideally reaching the finals would be preferable while scheduling as many friendlies as possible in between.

The other option is to win the tournament that would allow us to face the 4th in the HEX.

The timing is wrong and from what I've heard, it was due to CONCACAF unwillingness to change anything about the League of Nations.

An MLS club already have their eyes on a CPL player, further demonstrating the high level of the league, especially after the last round of the Canadian Championship

A league is high level if an MLS team wants a player from it?

"Further demonstrating"... not "it's high level because an MLS team says so".

I'm just documenting as much different point of views as I can, in this case, it was Dos Santos. I've posted before analysts opinions, foreigners, players and fans feedback evaluating the league. Consensus is that the quality exceeded expectations.

August 1st will be a huge test for the league as Forge will play in CONCACAF League against Guatemala's Antigua FC.

19 year old Liam Millar will play under Klopp in today's friendly at Liverpool. He's one of Liverpool highest ranked prospect and plays a similar game as Alphonso Davies as a winger. He'salsi a striker.
I'm starting to think that he might be more effective than Junior Hoillet, who's team got relegated into Championship. He was invisible against Haiti.

Kilmarnock would be a good spot for him as they are in Europa qualifications.

History has been made in Canadian Soccer! For the first time since 2008, a non MLS club beats an MLS club in the Canadian Championship and it was done by a Canadian Premier League club.

CPL Cavalry FC defeats MLS Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 on aggregate to advance to the Semifinals against the Montreal Impact.

Calgary started 6 Canadians v. 3 Canadians for Vancouver. Despite a difference in wages, longevity, history and reputation, Cavalry's proved that Canadian soccer has lots of potential and untapped talent ready to emerge at club level.

Montreal Impact defeats York9 3-2 on aggregate.

Despite the defensive blunders in the 1st leg and the missed opportunities in the 2nd leg, Montreal struggled to eliminate York despite Piatti's return who brilliantly aimed for Abzi arm causing the penalty.

Ottawa Fury defeats Halifax Wanderers 5-4 on aggregate.

Halifax has been plagued with injuries for most of the season proved to be a handful against a good Ottawa team despite missing key players. Williams in goal is simply not good enough and the young Oxner should be #1.

Ottawa Fury will play Toronto FC next

This below also applies to Toronto FC and Montreal Impact to some extend. The CSA must stop exclusively selecting players from MLS Academies and ignoring the other academies in the rest of the country for the youth teams. That contributed to losing talent over the years

Alphonso Davies is named as one of the top 50 young players that could break out this year in the UEFA Champions League

Alphonso Davies (CAN, 18 – Bayern)
Born in a Ghanaian refugee camp and raised in Canada, the winger sparkled in the spring after joining Bayern from Vancouver Whitecaps.

Another milestone by the Canadian Premier League

(CAN) Forge FC just defeated (GUA)Antigua GFC 2-1 in CONCACAF League in Hamilton, Ontario

Antigua seemed one step ahead of Forge in the 1st half with the goal by Pacheco

Forge FC responded immediately at the beginning of the 2nd half with a goal from Daniel Krutzen

Then during stoppage time, David Choiniere scores coming off the bench

Forge played a much better game in the second half while having the majority of the possession throughout the game.

The return leg is next week in Guatemala. Winner will face (HON) Olimpia in the Quarterfinals.

Ballou is a loan, and the others aren't DP money.
