    That's a big-name signing right there.

[IMG] Northern Ireland: The first NI trophy of the year was the league cup final, held during the World Cup. Demi Vance got two goals in a minute to win it:

In the league it's still Linfield on top, but Glentoran are effectively level after they beat the leaders 1-0. Eight more matchdays to go.

Still undefeated, Peamount have 12 wins from 12 in the league. The only blemish was a semi-final defeat 2-1 to Dublin's Shelbourne, who went on to win the league cup this week:

    Here's a sneak preview:

    Speaking of errors,

Blissett, if you're going to be a true Scotland fan and expert, you can't be mistaking Gaelic for English on TV. And it's essential to memorize all the Gaelic victory phrases. Here's your homework.

[IMG] Scotland: The SWPL season is back underway – Glasgow City got another important win over Hibs as they each chase the 2019 title.

It'll be a sad day when City are overtaken by Celtic or Rangers, and not just for football reasons. Celtic won the Old Firm game 3-1 on Sunday – two days later headlines had Rangers accuse Celtic fans of sectarian and misogynistic abuse at the game. The two Rangers post-match interviews don't mention anything like that, and nothing else has come of it. The Celtic fan group denied it (in a childish statement), and the club apparently offered the game tape as evidence.

In SWPL 2, a very competitive division this year: the top 6 are separated by 7pts. Hearts lost 1st place as they slipped up at home at the spaceship  and Hamilton, relegated last year, beat Dundee United 2-0 to lead the league on goal difference.

[IMG] New manager for the Ireland team:

Bell's been drawn by the bright lights of Huddersfield, but his replacement has also had experience in Germany as a manager and player – really a glittering career. "Maren Meinert – who led Germany to the UEFA U-19 Finals last month and has won 3 U-19 European titles and 2 U-20 Women's World Cups in her time coaching the German youth side" - (TribalFootball.com)

I am surprised that Meinert in the past supposedly declined the position of manager of Germany Senior Women's NT (or at least, these were the voices at the time) and accepted instead to start her career in senior football with a somehow "minor" team.

Or, on second thought, it could feel no surprising at all: maybe, despite her successes at youth level, she didn't want to "burn" herself right away by taking one of the most high-profile women's NTs in the world, and she chose to begin her senior career step by step. She could eventually end sitting on the bench of Germany NT, later in her career, but with much more experience at this level under her belt... :coffee:

Meinert was not kept by the DFB and it did not look like a friendly split from what I read on German websites.
So it's a great opportunity for her.

Durham stand out as the division's only club without finances from a men's club. They're also the only North East club left, in a region which has produced a lot of England players. Durham mention their astute financial management and backing from the university, but how long will that be enough?

Well I'd be surprised if that would be enough for the FA WSL figures mentioned were about £400 to £500k minimum needed.

Reading will hold 3 more games at the Madejski in 2019. Sunderland's derby against Newcastle was at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, a 3-2 home win, but it was only moved because of fire damage at the Hetton Centre. There's takeover talk at the club, with an American group interested.

here's a replay of England's friendly vs Belgium

keep in mind that #1 USA destroyed Belguim, 6-0 about five months back, you expect somewhat similar perfromance from the #3 team, right? But unfortunately, this is, once again the underwhelming,

play slowly the ball to the lone striker, into the crowded mid defense, while juicing things up with another spectacular own goal, ENGLAND!

I’m actually one of the few people who didn’t think the US was all that dominant in the 6-0 win considering the score line. The US was heavily reliant on dead ball situations for their goals with only two from the run of play, and only one of those two involved some great build up play in my opinion.

I’ll trust your analysis of England’s play in this match. We should keep in mind though that England has also drawn Wales and lost to New Zealand recently. They’re capable of below par performances.

didn't watch the US/Belgium game, was wondering how did the lil cupcake Philtjens(all 4ft+something) do vs the US? She was quite good in completely shudown Nikita Parris, but then Nevllie don't believe in fast transition or long balls or quick, side to side changes, lol

Don’t really recall individual Belgium performances. Both goals from the run of play came on Belgium’s right and not Philtjens’ side though.
