It’s also much older than the Eredivisie in terms of average age

Minimum salary for non EU inhabitants in Belgium is somewhere around 80k per annum. Which is very low. There have been talks about raising this, but no action thus far.

Average age in the Netherlands: https://www.transfermarkt.nl/eredivisie/altersschnitt/wettbewerb/NL1
    Average age in Belgium:
    https://www.transfermarkt.nl/jupiler-pro-league/altersschnitt/wettbewerb/BE1

Différence doesn't seem to be that big to me. What strikes me is that among the five youngest teams in the Belgian league there are three top Belgian teams.

Dunno if this was posted, but Anderlecht plays HSV on July 20 in a summer friendly...

It used to be around 60k Euro, back in the mid-2000's Did they get rid of it? They were always threatening to raise it back then, but never did.

(just saw insengrim's post. Has gone up, but not by much.)

There will be player turnover, but there could well be coaching turnover as well. There will certainly be turmoil, and hiring a former hero who has zero coaching experience but does have a history of struggling to stay fit for his first coaching gig - and as a player-coach at that - is the kind of desperation move an under-pressure newbie owner makes. It appeases the fans, for a while, but it doesn't address fundamental issues and the end isn't pretty: not for the coach, the sporting director, the suits or the players who get caught up in it.

    Better buckle up.

Tough to say, but it kinda looked like he was playing deeper (he's no. 3). Anderlecht lost 5-2.

Also, Kenny did not make the squad for the friendly vs Benfica 3 days ago...

Seeing Samir Nasri at Anderlecht is so bizarre.

Not as bizarre is seeing Kompany as the player manager.

Hopefully he can stay healthy and find some of that pre-injury magic.

He's unlikely to play much this season. Vincent Kompany apparently not a fan of his.

I think it's less that Kompany isn't a fan, more that he isn't good enough for Anderlecht. He couldn't even lock down a starting spot for Cincinnati.

Or was is more that Cincy is/was a shit show? It could be argued either way. I wasn't impressed with Saif but then again it was had for me to decipher it was actually him or the mismanaged team.

They absolutely are a disaster, but he wasn't good enough for Anderlecht before he went to Cincinnati either.*

My point is that it's not a Kompany preference thing; he's just at a club that's too big for him. He tried to make a step up, full credit to him for trying, but it didn't really work out. Now he's in a bit of a rut, to the point that he wasn't doing well in Cincinnati. He's better than that, and could use a move to a smaller club in a better situation to push himself forward again.

    * - I know he played a bunch for them before the loan, but he has 1 goal and 4 assists in 2,000 minutes there.

Kenny has yet to make bench through first four games of the season. Not good. Needs to find another loan.

Kenny played in Kompany's testimonial, subbing in for Gary Neville after 35'.

I think that's his first appearance since the start of Anderlecht's season...

'Subbing in for Gary Neville' a decade or so ago would've been a nice line to have. Now? Pretty...inglorious...

The full article is firewalled, but here's the info provided above the cut:

Anderlecht, Kenny Saief wants to become the new Trebel

Transferred for 3.75 million a little over a year ago, he found hope of getting out of oblivion where Kompany had placed him.

"Oh my God, they killed Kenny," they would have shouted in an episode of South Park. Kenny Saief has not played a single second this season. Not even an appearance on the bench. The only time we could see it was during Vincent Kompany's gala match. On a free kick, he had formed an incredible wall with Van Persie, Giggs, Cahill and Arteta. Nice but a bit skinny for a player bought for 3.75 million in Ghent a little over a year ago. What is going on ?

1 He lost six months of career in Cincinnati

I have no idea what "the new Trebel" means.
