This year we only play qualification matches for Euro 2020 He's not going to be selected for any of those.
Ten Hag singled out Dest postgame for his good performance...specifically his window printing. Ten Hag blij met Dest: "Ik vond hem zeker in de eerste helft uitstekend. Hij drukt echt zijn venster." #ajapan #PreSeason— Ajax News Zone (@AjaxNewsZone) July 22, 2019 Ten Hag happy with Dest: "I certainly thought he was excellent in the first half. He really prints his window." #ajapan#PreSeason
Just watched the whole match. He’s too good to play with Arriola in front of him and Zardes as top striker. Hope he doesn’t figure that out. Not that it matters, since Ream is locked in. As for Ajax, he looks better than just belonging. They are going to have a tough time being as exciting without DeJong. The midfield just isn’t close to the same in his absence. But it’s still a fun squad. Dest links well with VDB and Promes, and Tadic looked for him a few times on late runs. He’s definitely not getting the Zardes treatment (when open, teammates still won’t pass to you because you effing suck).
LB, are you serious? Might that actually happen for us? It’s too good to be true. He’s very good it tight spaces. Has great burst. And is getting a great soccer education.
https://www.fcupdate.nl/voetbalnieuws/353483/ "I wasn't sharp at all times", Dest shows himself self-critical in conversation with Veronica Inside shortly after the practice match . "In the second half I started limp, but in the end I picked it up again. In the final phase I had a bit too much ball loss, but those are learning moments," said Dest, who delivered an assist halfway through the second half. "Carel (Eiting, ed.) Gave me the ball and my opponent thought the ball would roll out. I thought: I will go around him . And finally he fell, giving me the option to get Donny (Van de Beek, ed. ). " Dest thinks he has had a good preparation. "I think I have really taken steps. It is my job to hold on to it, because I am not there yet. My plan is to play as many matches as possible at Young Ajax and if I can join Ajax 1, I want to I do my best and then I am there ", continues the defender, who can make his official debut in the main force in the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale against PSV on Saturday. "I have no expectations. I live from competition to competition. If I could participate and make my debut, I would really like that." Ten Hag spoke after the match against Panathinaikos rave about Dest. "I have heard rumors that they (the trainers, ed.) Are satisfied and I have also read things. The other trainers have said it to me and Ten Hag has not really done that yet," says Dest, who is at both back positions can.
Outside of the Ukraine game (where my main concern was that he seemed to lack some of his typical burst), he's been consistently good with the u20s and now at Ajax. I'm back squarely in the "high ceiling" and "cap him now" camps due to 1) his high level combination of ball skills, two footedness and quickness and 2) a successful preseason at Ajax that demonstrates an ability to step up to a significant challenge, which is doubly impressive given his age and that he's playing out of position.

Was hoping we could clone him. But after the stem cell talk over in the Adams thread, it seems like it won’t happen in time for 2022. But 26 def still on the table.
The other RB options makes it a no brainer. Can you imagine Dest and Araujo as your starting fullbacks? 18 and soon to be 18 with winger level skill on the ball.
Moving to LB really helps his short term outlook w/ the national team. Although he should have to more than make the squad and make an appearance w/ Ajax ala Josh Perez w/ Fiorentina and Haji Wright w/ Schalke. It should require several meaningful matches where he appears to belong. At that point Gregg would be remiss not to give him trials. But he didn't play Lima there in spite of that being where he was employed for club, instead opting for Ream and Lovitz. So he may be bogged down in this narrow-minded view that he needs a natural lefty.
Lima had only started 8 games as a left back before the Gold Cup, so Berhalter not employing him as one during that tournament is pretty reasonable. If he continues to play as San Jose's LB, and is called in as a RB-only option for the Nations League and beyond, then I'd be more inclined to agree.
I don't want to be that guy, but anyone starting for Ajax is absolutely going to be on the KNVB radar and of course should be starting for us. None of our Germans were anywhere good enough for Germany, but if Dest is good enough to start for Ajax, that is not a Dutch squad long on fullbacks at all... https://www.elfvoetbal.nl/Binnenlan...-Dest-nog-niet-voor-teams-van-de-KNVB-uitnen Why Sergino Dest is not (yet) playing for KNVB teams Mazraoui Dest played for Jong Ajax last season in the Keuken Kampioen Division. His debut in Ajax's main force will probably not be long in coming. The player with whom he is mentioned in the same breath, Noussair Mazraoui, steamed through to the Moroccan national team last year. He too could have opted for the Netherlands. Whether national coach Ronald Koeman should start worrying? Well, that remains to be seen. Dest must first show that at Ajax in the coming months. Now that he is doing so well in preparation, a debut is getting closer. Ten Hag leaves no doubt that that opportunity is present.
Yeah Dumfries and Hateboer are pretty meh at the RB position. And at LB they are starting Blind but, that is his third best position and Van Aanholt is not that impressive.
