It's a TFC player. I think Keven Aleman had his rights traded to Vancouver around the same time, but never signed a contract and went to Europe. Josh Janniere never played an MLS game with Colorado and when he was cut, ended back at the TFC academy. There were 4-5 talented kids in the TFC Academy during the Klinsmann/Winter/Mariner era that just left.
I think Janniere was first. He was signed by Colorado in March 2011, while Aleman's rights were acquired by Vancouver in July 2011 in exchange for Terry Dunfield. Terry Dunfield...TFC has really come a long way.
Sean Cunningham wants to attend medical school "Cunningham, who auditioned for MLS Seattle Sounders, decided to pursue medical school. He's attending Oakland University and will start submitted applications next year, he said." https://www.detroitnews.com/story/s...r-career-after-wifes-cancer-ordeal/692321002/
If new MNT callup Ben Sweat gets capped, it would represent the 16th cap for the 2011 U20 group (of which he was only a bit player). There are still a few guys in that pool who might sneak in, though nobody necessarily much more deserving than Sweat -- we are talking basically fringe players at this point.
So '86 Chris Tierney, the Revs' all-time appearance leader with nearly 250, is retiring at 32 with a whopping zero MNT or, I'm pretty sure, YNT caps to his name. ... though here he is in a friendly with U-Va. against the U17s in 2007. It would seem pretty unquestionable that he had the best career, by far, of anyone who played in that game. https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/03/17/12/56/u-17-mnt-fall-to-uva
Pleased and proud to announce that I have officially accepted the position of Sporting/Technical Director of Orlando City B in USL League One as part of Orlando’s Next Generation Youth… https://t.co/pS8IFJgbG5— Oguchi Onyewu (@OguchiOnyewu5) December 6, 2018
A small thing, but interesting to see Zarek Valentin, whose U.S. Soccer career was pretty much over years ago, make a substantially younger player "surplus to requirements" in Portland. (Though Portland reportedly got both some allocation money and a portion of any sell-on fee for Powell, so maybe they just took a good deal. Either way, presumably the job is Valentin's to lose now.)
I've caught up with the former YNTs. They all just signed on to play with Eric Wynalda for the Las Vegas Lights. https://www.lasvegaslightsfc.com/news_article/show/982820 Javan Torre Bryan de la Fuente Eric Gonzalez Pablo Cruz Plus long-forgotten Philly HGP Cristhian Hernandez and a real journeyman in Irvin Parra.

The article has this gem of a picture from the 1999 U20 World Cup. I spy quite a number of future USMNTer in that picture. Howard, Rimando, Gibbs, Califf, Twellman, Bocanegra, Albright, etc.
Ronald Medrano, whom I suspect will not be widely remembered here, appears to be earnings an honest living at a law firm in Louisiana.

A lot of under the radar signings of former YNTers to MLS this year. Stanko, Boyd, Westberg, Alejandro Guido, Joe Corona, Omar G, and Hyndman.
Emo has been delightful to watch. He doesn't do much that is technically difficult, but he does everything a second earlier than everyone else on the field. Compared to an average MLS midfielder, I'd say he's a little less athletic but not so much that he's out of position, works harder, maybe a little bit more technical, but he's head and shoulders above everyone else mentally. It's remarkable how many times he takes the ball from a teammate for 2 seconds and returns it to his teammate in a better situation than before. Being the winger on his side of the field is a dream job- you're always going to be one on one with your defender. I think Atlanta looks fantastic with him on the field just because of how complementary he is to all his teammates. He makes everyone on the field smarter, too. I still can't believe some people didn't think he'd immediately be an MLS starter.
He's not the ONLY interesting name to turn up in yesterday's NISA match between Cal and 1904, but I'm unilaterally deciding that the MOST interesting name was Chris Klute.
