3-0 Oxlade-Chamberlain brings the ball out of midfield before having a shot which is deflected into the path of Brewster who gobbles it up. The perfect poachers goal for the youngster.
3-0 Brewster puts away a rebound from a really tight angle. Another poachers goal, but a difficult finish that he made look easy.
Stupid challenge from Lewis gives away a penalty. 3-1 Not much from this 2nd half team. Curtis Jones the stand out player, but Liverpool aren’t creating much.
Full time. 3-1. 2nd half team actually lost the half. Curtis Jones was very good in midfield. His chances in midfield might be over with Henderson and Gini returning. Maybe Klopp will use him in the front 3 for the US tour. Jones could benefit from a loan this season. Liam Millar was also good in the 2nd half. He was not afraid to take on defenders and he almost scored a nice goal. The story today is again Brewster. He really looked the part in the first half. He twice played teammates in on goal with an excellent touch. His goal was a really good finish from a tight angle. He looks super confident, has good movement, and does well with the ball in tight spaces. He has done really well in the Firmino role. I would really like to see what he can do on the left side of the front 3. The more roles he can play, the more valuable he will he to the squad.
Milner starts every game ahead of Henderson. Why, you ask...becuz he scores more goals and he's just as good defensively. And he doesn't run funny.
Klopp said he was playing the Jorginho role. Not sure if tongue in cheek, but I suspect this means that Klopp and Lallana know he generally useless in other positions so as last resort might as well start getting him ready to play the 6 in the cups and at whatever retirement club he ends up at next.
from the post-match comments I saw , he is serious about developing Lall in that role. I can't see it working myself but we do have to leave a little room for the possibility that Klopp might know more about (a) football and (b) Lallana than I do. if it does "work" though I think you're right - most likely we'd see him in lesser competitions, or if we're desperate due to injuries. mind you, Millie at one time was seen as nothing other than a winger, period .... now we know he can do anything and do it well.
That's a startling admission...considering the source... But this is an internet message board, which makes us all experts.
it is important for one to be relentlessly humble in such matters. or, y'know, give that impression from time to time .....
I had to scroll up to see the author of that post. Then I thought "No it can't be. He would never admit Klopp knows better.
It will be interesting to see if Lallana continues to play as the number 6 throughout the preseason. For the first two games Fabinho was the only holding midfielder available. For the next match Henderson and Wijnaldum will be back. I think Klopp is pretty committed to using Henderson further forward this season so maybe that is why he is trying Lallana there. It will also be good to see if he tries any other systems like 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 in preseason, especially since we have so few forwards available.
Lallana could easily play the 6 against poor sides, in cups and what not. He can create space on the ball out of nothing, and has a decent range of passing... what more do you realistically need against League One-ish sides when you have 80%+ possession? That said, yeah, it's obviously the beginning of the end for him. Jones was looking really good, popping up all over the pitch the other day. Wouldn't mind him getting time in the early stages of the cup competitions as well.
The issue with a number 6 is that you have to maintain concentration all the time. Can’t afford to lose the bell in dangerous areas nor allowing runners to ghost past you. That’s for the coaching staff to decide.
Lallana has great ball skills but for me doesn't have the physicality to do the grunt work, tackling etc, at the back. he's pretty lightweight. and he doesn't have years of experience defending that develops the positional feel and sixth sense of imminent / developing danger that all top defenders have. I'd like to see him play the position though. I could be completely wrong. PS No I don't know what's wrong with me today either ....
Even in cup games, would there be a place for Jones? I don’t think there will even be opportunities for him on the US Tour. First half midfield could be Lallana, Milner, and Ox. 2nd half midfield of Hendo, Gini, and Fabinho. So even when we change all eleven players there is no place for him. This is without Keita and Shaq available. I think a loan could be good for him. However, we have to be careful about choosing the right place. Last season was completely wasted for Woodburn on Sheffield’s bench.

Does your chewing gum lose its flavour........ I remember nights at the Empire with Lonnie Donegan but I don't know this guy. Liverpool call on Andy Lonergan as 35-year-old former Preston and Leeds keeper answers Jurgen Klopp's SOS with Alisson on holiday and youngsters injured With Alisson yet to return following his involvement with Brazil's triumph in the Copa America, the club announced on Tuesday that Lonergan will travel and train with the squad for their three-match tour. This is a really funny story. The club just called up some random goalkeeper and asked him to come on tour with us.
