Has anyone else besides me been watching the Fox Sports top 50 WWC moments daily? They have been doing these I think since April and they are finally at the top 2.
Excellent feature on Megan Rapinoe and her brother by Gwendolyn Oxenham: https://www.espn.com/soccer/fifa-wo...d-hope?platform=amp&__twitter_impression=true Really I'd recommend reading anything by Gwendolyn.
Great reading. I wasn't aware at all of this story: I already was respecting Megan Rapinoe, now I do respect her even more.
great stuff. (is that really pinoe in a #7 red u.s.a. kit playing against germany? doesn't really look like her.)
Me, too. I just finished her book "Finding the Game- three years, twenty five countries, and the search for pickup soccer." I could not put it down. I would recommend it even to non-soccer fans as an excellent travel/adventure book. They actually bribed their way into a prison in La Paz, Bolivia in order to play with the prisoners. Last year , I read "Under the lights and in the Dark" - untold stories of women's soccer." Many of the stories, like Nadia Nadim's, I had read about before, many I had not. Oxenham provided more detail for the stories I knew about, and her writing style is engaging.

And hopefully every one will have to be new 4-star jerseys in a couple of weeks: 1145008651775676416 is not a valid tweet id
A piece today in the NY Times about the criticism the US team has been getting. So many threads have criticism about the celebrations and the hotel visits, etc. that I wasn't sure where to put this. A quote from the last couple of paragraphs: "Perhaps, then, there is a compliment hidden in the criticism: If it is only the manner of the American victories that people can take issue with, some nebulous sense of a line being crossed, then that is proof of the scale of their dominance. ...This United States team does not, when it comes down to it, care what other people think of it. It is here to win games, to claim a prize, to conquer the world. Whether it makes friends along the way is secondary. It is not in the business of inspiring affection. It is here to inspire awe, and it has done that rather nicely."
USWNT make their first stop in the US on GMA: I notice that Jessica McDonald is not there for some reason?
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/soccer...ime-online-live-stream-tv-channel-2019-07-09/ I hope someone posts tomorrow's ticker-tape parade to youtube eventually. Ironic that the only people who can watch full coverage on TV or record it are the people who live close enough to NYC to see it in person. Throughout the rest of country CBS apparently views daily game show reruns as more important. I know that there's the streaming option but that's unhelpful in the middle of a workday. Edit: Also apparently viewable on Fox Sports 2 and ESPNU. Still unhelpful to me...
Interesting FIFA just released the viewing figures for final. Largest audience wasn’t in USA. It was in Brazil where almost 20 million viewers watched. Globe TV’s share was 41.7, blowing away Fox’s 27.— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) July 9, 2019
Now that it's all over, I will complain about the web site of the U.S. Women's National Team ( https://www.ussoccer.com/teams/uswnt) It used to be better, but it was never very good. Now, it's all fluff....heart warming stuff -- but where's the beef? I can't find any statistics, nor any match reports before the World Cup. The old web page had stats (inadequate stats to be sure) and match reports going back to about 2015 as I recall. Where are they? I'm rushing headlong into the 15th century when it comes to technology, so maybe that sort of info is available somewhere, but I can't find it. For stats, the US WNT might look to the NWSL web page. That impoverished league is now publishing a very nice review of every game with stats on individual players, heat maps, etc. We need a major revision of the U.S. WNT web page by somebody with an interest in history and hard data.
Media guides are still available for stats from previous years: https://www.ussoccer.com/media-services/media-guide But yeah, you can't find anything on the website anymore. I would LOVE a searchable database on players and previous matches with reports and stats. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.
I assume there is greater fan demand for fluff than for hard data, but it's not clear why the official website couldn't have both.
Ticker tape parade notes: -NWSL had a float! -Carlos Cordeiro was interrupted often by chants of "Equal Pay." But he did plug the NWSL, which was great. However, he also mispronounced Rapinoe's name, which made me cringe and was not a good look. -Carli Lloyd made a comment (like many others have) about this team being best friends. -When receiving keys to the city, Morgan sipped the tea and Rapinoe spread her arms, both in celebration mode. -Megan Rapinoe praised the team, the staff, and Carlos Cordeiro (saying he'll do the right thing). The rest of her speech is what will be the biggest talking point. I'm just going to put the video here: MIC. DROPPED. 🎤Watch @mPinoe's Victory Parade speech in its entirety. 🇺🇸 pic.twitter.com/w4kcGaq2TX— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) July 10, 2019
With mediation already scheduled, the WNT is best positioned by taking the higher ground. USSF is already in a corner, though the biggest $$$ in the formula are tied up in FIFA WC bonuses.
You should befriend that dude on here that had all the color coated spreadsheets a couple months back. He has like a Cray computer dedicated for each Player.
I am afraid that not all news from the USWNT return is positive: https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...tel-room-robbed-after-espy-awards/1713517001/
I saw that earlier today. Apparently she got 100s of comments on her instagram stating that she cheated on her husband because she went to another hotel room without her wedding ring on. She had to clear that up by stating that her hand was still swollen from practice during the WWC and she had to remove her ring as a result. I bet these are the same trolls that keep attacking her because she dropped the flag on the grass during celebrations
Are you saying that you think she was targeted due to the "drop?" If that is true then I see a whole new set of conspiracy theories emerging. Also if it was targeted then it seems that the charges for those involved should jump dramatically as far as the charges that have been brought to bring down many in organized crime. In many cases conspiracy to commit a minor crime jumps that crime to a major felony and brings in the laws aimed at organized crime. Personally I hope they catch the perpetrators and charge them and all that egged them on with as much as they can. Also everyone involved should be denied bail, as it is a terrorist type of act, then the trial should be delayed as long as possible to maximize their time, since it is in New York, at Rikers because that is such a nice place for an extended stay.
