You might want to consider rereading the original post below. And I later responded to someone else that he was not in the majority I was referring to.

And I was not referring just to this thread but the various game threads since the tournament started.

See for example, my broken record post in response to one poster. And if you care to take the trouble, there is an interesting correlation between the criticism of Pinoe and the various anti-equal pay posts in other threads.

If you are in the minority I wasn't referring to, no problem.

The broken record was to me and I couldn’t give a rats ass about the equal pay stuff. I’ve never made one comment about that on any other thread.

I probably should edit to say "the various anti-equal pay posts and/or anti-anthem protest posts".

What's the Morgan Brian, Van De Sanden connection? I noticed they were laughing together in the tunnel when they initially met a few hours before the kick off on the FoxSports camera 360 feed. Were they college mates? teammates?

Post your post to the guy. You said something like "ya, you were the reason I said 'vast majority' instead of all."

The problem with the entire Rapinoe discussion is symptomatic of society at large today. As soon as anyone is critical of a social justice warrior or some left leaning topic they are automatically assumed to be racist/homophobic/etc/etc. But the simple fact remains is that that is just not the case most the time. We just can't have a discourse about a topic without far too many making erroneous assumptions.

On one hand, I don't support Rapinoe to bring those politics on the soccer field, but I think as a player she has been great throughout this WWC.

Hope Solo actually gave some good points in this WWC.

And regardless of her bizarre actions, she was the best USWNT keeper in the history, and was willing to fight against the old players, that's enough for ppl to like her.

I disagree that she was the "best." But second beast to Briana Scurry is not too bad.

For me and a number of other people I know her "problem" was not just her mouth but it was also her tendency to use violence in her personal live.

As far as her "comments" during this WWC goes I found most of what she said just slightly better than what Lalas spewed. She seemed almost intently focused on saying things to belittle her former coach, teammates and the USSF without really being in any way constructive.

I can understand her bitterness but it was she, not anyone else, that ruined her career.

Hope was a train wreck off the field, but was an unbelievable keeper. Sure, she spoke up after that loss against Sweeden, but I didn’t think it was enough to get blackballed from the team.

I find it interesting that after the World Cup, Carli was asked if she wanted to continue playing and she said the last couple years have been really tough and it’s been tough between her and the coaching staff. I thought Morgan wasn’t playing well enough in the tournament for Carli to have way more playing time, but she was regulated to very small amounts of time.

It’s my personal feeling, Ellis has some favorites on this team.... I know there was one player who hasn’t been called up because of her outspoken beliefs..

Every coach is always going to have their favorites.... Just seems under Jill’s watch, lots of that comes to light..

I am not defending her action off the field, but she does give some good point and in the 2007 incident I agree with EVERY BIT of her words in the interview, just thinking she shouldn't say it publicly.

And you can have you opinion, but I still think Solo is the best keeper.

Solo was past her prime obviously after Rio. They probably just used it as the excuse. It was a bit cruel but good to the team overall. Remember what happened in 2007.

Morgan wasn't on her shooting boot but she could still provide the team with her pace and the ability to hold the ball and attract defense. Lloyd, even in her prime is not a good lone forward, and she's 36 years old, she already got enough playing time.

Past her prime? Don’t think I can agree with that one.

I got tired of Morgan’s constant flopping all tournament. I don’t know where that’s come from, but Carli doesn’t play like that. It’s a moot point now, but at the time, thought Carli should have come on about 20mim earlier in some of those games.

Yes but Carli is not a lone striker, she doesn't have the pace as well, not anymore.

If anything, Press should be the 1st choice for sub CF to me .

Yeah, I agree on that’s the ideal spot for her. I’m sure the thought process for this tournament was to use her ability to be a two way player.

Pas her "prime"?? That is a joke, right? Goalkeepers often do not even reach their "prime" before they reach 32-35 and she is only 38 right now I think.

At the time of her forced retirement in 2016 she was only 36. She really was just in her "prime" period. There are so many little things that goalkeepers must learn and it is so hard to produce practices that train their minds that means that goalkeepers must play a LOT more games to learn most of what they need to know.

Field players can get 75-85% trained in practice but goalkeepers only get 60-65% of training in practice.

I have said before that each goalkeeper must make every mistake there is at least once to learn how to avoid it a second time. Practices can train to make that learning easier but most of the real learning for the goalkeeper comes in real games. Even simulated games in practice are not enough. It is actually worse for goalkeeper development if they play for good teams because dangerous chances to learn do not come often if the match is played at the other end.

That is what made Brad Guzan get so good as a pro so fast. He played for a few years on the worst team that the MLS has ever had. (Chivas USA) He was faced with so many dangerous chances that he had to improve very fast or just give up and become a used car salesman.

Solo was forced into retirement by her off field behavior otherwise she could have played, and improved, at least through this WWC and the upcoming Olympics and she might have even remained good enough for one more cycle.

Yeah I know, but her form obviously wasn't so good in Rio and like you've said, she's 38 now, which means she surely will not suit as the 1st keeper in this WWC. It's a good thing to avoid the 2007 drama.

Maybe indirectly, but you do not build up support for a league by taking players away from their teams for league games so they can play in an exhibition. From the league perspective, part of the problem is that the casual WOSO fan knows that Morgan plays for the USWNT but not for Orlando Pride, for example.

Last thing we need is another Rapinoe post, but here we are... There is no question that there’s been legitimate criticism of the consistency of her play, but you have to be either naive or disingenuous to suggest that there hasn’t also been a fair amount of personally/politically motivated hit jobs (and some outright abuse). Some people can’t separate; some can. I don’t think her play is untouchable, nor are her politics. Nor is her play untouchable because of her politics...but let’s not pretend that some criticism hasn’t been motivated by her politics. Like any board, some posters have trouble with the difference between critical analysis, opinion, and outright denigration.

For the record, I admire her for using her platform for a cause(s) she believes in...at some cost to her (serious backlash, verbal and social media abuse, likely fewer endorsement opportunities). Athletes shouldn’t have to live like some kind of antiseptic ideal. Play hard and fair on the field. Be you off it. That opens you to criticism, but it shouldn’t open you to abuse. As another poster mentioned, the former has no effect on Megan. If anything it fuels her. It’s part of what makes her great on the field, and especially from the spot.
