Disappointing 2nd half. Bradley looked spent from about 60'. Cannon is the definite winner for future playing time. Miazga and Long both were very good. Pulisic has amazing dribbling skills, and did very well in the center but needs to learn to see the pass.
So much hope in the 1st half. Made it so much worse in the 2nd half when I remembered we don't have an actual coach.
This is as far as the Bradley-Altidore incarnation of USMNT can take us, and it's not good enough, obviously. Gregg turned all deer in the headlights in the second half.
the game was over the minute Zardes came in. Not a great Mexican team and they dominated us. If this doesnt send a big message to GB then he's a bigger fool then I think he is
I looked liked at the 45 to me. 45 seconds into the game.... Arriola, McKenzie, Morris all did their best to cover for his sorry ass all night Stu sure got excited for his 1 diagonal to Cannon. Funny thing for me, in the last 2 games Cannon has volleyed those diagonals beautifully and you do not heat a beep.
Goodbye to these boards for a couple of weeks. Life happens. During this time will take time to rewatch this final... and to assess what it might mean for us going forward into WC qualification with General Egg..... Best to everyone.
The boys fought. Great first half. Will post more tomorrow. Don’t be too upset everyone, lots to look forward to and ... Win or lose, we all probably have to go to work tomorrow. When I was 16 after a huge Roma defeat, My father (a working class Italian) told me, “Whether Roma win or lose I still have to go to work tomorrow”. Changed how I approached being a fan forever. Great game what a day of soccer. The future is bright. All the best to everyone please stay active I love this forum.
I think the positives are: Cannon was very good, consistently, throughout the game. They moved Pizarro, who I was most worried about before the game, to the other side of the field for the second half. Jozy was very very good for 45 (except for that finish......) but isn't a 90 guy (though he has never been a 90 guy). McKennie wasn't as good as he had been, but glad to see his ferocity. Long and Miazga were very good. Keepers, both of them.
Outcoached (in a very winnable game) by the man who, in a real federation, would have been our coach.
To me, it appeared that Tata made adjustments at halftime and Berhalter stood completely still and made zero adjustments. The substitutions made little sense. If you’re going to take off Morris for being ineffectual in attack, why not put on Boyd when we desperately needed to make something happen. Lovitz as the last sub down a goal? That was utter nonsense. Honestly, I am completely baffled by the second half play by the entire team. Arriola is incredibly frustrating, gets in great positions and botches the end result, and Altidore could have taken one more touch and easily buried that goal early on
I wonder how McKennie would look next to a midfielder he could rely on, where he could focus on his position only instead of playing one and a half at the same time. Also seeing a lot of people saying Weston lost his cool, I agree with this BUT a player grabbed him by the throat on the pitch... and he’s 20. I’ll give him some slack.
no adjustments at half by GGG. Altidore misses chances Bradley and McKennie not on same sheet of music Why did Boyd not play? We needed Adams and Sargent or something like that. Cannon was a bright spot.
3G just showed everyone that didn't know, he's an average MLS coach at best. Our coach is the weak link. How I wish we still have a 40 yr old Dempsey on the field.
It just sucks because we came out with such energy and promise.... The coach blew it with his inability to adapt to Tata’s adjustments and he should have been fired on the spot for trying to bring in Lovitz. Seriously, we got this guy named Tyler Boyd who was having a great tournament. Sure, he didn’t set the world on fire against Curacao, but who did? We sure as hell are sticking with Zardes despite the fact he offers nothing!!
