Both Morelias are stunning! Love to get mainly black Rebula option as well, but not fan of the red colour on those personally. Which is a bit weird since black/white/red is one of my favourite colourways in Neo II. Thanks for the pic.
Ah that's interesting that you like the black/white/red Neo IIs but not these Rebulas. I absolutely love leather boots in black/white/red. And the Rebulas are perfect for me!
Been playing with my Rebula 2's lately. I don't like em. They don't fit true to size, even after breaking them in. They also leave massive blisters on my heels. Much prefer the Neo II's, which have been easily my favorite pair.
hey guys, joined the forum just for this thread. been a mizuno fan for years after discovering the morelia mij coming from copas, diadora brazils and lotto stadios. was using a pair of morelia mij then until i tore my acl 11 years ago. been a leisure player after i recovered playing on gen 3 pitches with morelia 2 tm mij until i moved to australia which i added a pair of morelia in and tf and hasn’t looked back since.
I thought I'd share my Rebula 3 experience with you guys. I'm a cheapskate so I got the Elite version, wish I'd got the MIJ ones now. When I opened the box I thought they were perfect, all the issues with the Rebula 1 seemed to be fixed: stud pattern, suede heel liner, tongue fixed so it won't slide across. Shame it lost the offset lacing as I liked that on the Rebula 1, it gave a great striking surface. I tried them on and they didn't feel great, thought they just needed breaking in so I went for a run. New outsole is perfect, really good. The striking surface is also good. The leather softened up quite fast and then I found a real problem. On the lateral (ie outside) where the leather forefoot meets the synthetic midfoot there is a lacing hole close by. When I held the forefoot on the ground and lifted my heel (ie when walking or running) there was a big crease developing due to the stiffness of the join between the leather & synthetic pieces. This crease was pushing down onto the top of my foot near the start of my 4th & 5th toes and was very painful. I thought I'd just play thru it and they'd soften up, but they didn't. So now I was panicking. I'd just lashed out full price on them and really felt as if they were unwearable. I tried flexing the joint there to try and soften it up. It softened up but the crease was still there. I tried loosening the laces right off down there - no better. I figured if I could get the upper to fold outwards there instead of down and into my foot, the problem would go away. So I relaced them, skipping the 2nd last lace hole towards the toe. Big improvement! Now the join in the upper could flex away from my foot and the softer leather part was pushing down. Better but not good enough, and the boot didn't feel secure anymore. I noticed when flexing my foot that I could hear and feel a "pop". the tongue on this version has no padding whatsoever, it's a thin piece of synthetic stuff. It's fixed down at the end and has two small stitch rows about 1cm long approx half way up, which is what stops it from moving sideways. I found that when I flexed my foot, the tongue was creasing and going from being bent one way to flicking over to being bent the other, hence the "pop". This was because my foot must be narrower than whoever this boot was designed around and tightening the laces was wrinkling it. So, out with a razor blade and cut thru the stitching on the lateral side to free the tongue to slide down into the boot when I tied the laces. Wow, what a difference!!! It seems as if this was forcing the upper to flex a certain way and push the hard crease into my foot. I then relaced them as per original and tried again - much better this time, but still not as comfy as my X18.1's. The thin tongue just wasn't comfy, I could feel the laces digging into my foot and if I had them loose enough not to, the boot was too floppy on my foot. I just happened to have some 3mm Poron foam lying around so I cut a piece of that to put under the tongue for most of the length of it. Now it's just about perfect - the lace bight has gone but I think I need to spend some time getting the perfect shape for the Poron foam piece, then glue it to the underside of the tongue. The one thing Mizuno got really wrong on these boots is the inside of them. Adidas' X18.1's have a really nice soft artificial suede lining on the inside of the upper & midfoot. It's super comfy and when they're broken in they feel like a comfy pair of slippers. Such a shame Mizuno couldn't do the same with the new Rebula. So now I have a pair of boots which I think I can wear but I will need to do a bit more playing around to get them perfect. Whether I would have the same issues with the MIJ version I'm not sure but I doubt it. If I had been able to try them on first there's no way I would have bought them, shame no shops in Australia have them yet. Hopefully a few more hours in them will soften them up and I'll like them. To be honest, I'm now wishing I'd got the Asics X-Fly 4's - if anyone makes super comfy boots it's Asics.
Thanks for sharing, I haven't seen any English reviews about the elite version so this was interesting to read and appreciate the thoroughness of your post. Wasn't what I expected though, since when I saw proplayer (Yuki Muto) using them instead of MiJ, I presumed that they must be really good. That's actually bit sad that you've had to make tricks and modifications to your boot just to be satisfied, especially since they aren't cheap either.
need some advice from those with experience with both morelia 2 and rebula 2. sorely tempted to purchase a pair of rebula 2 v1 at a discounted price but can’t try one out for size where i am. i go half size down to jp265 for my morelia with very little to no allowance in the toe box as i prefer to cater for leather stretch and let it mold to feet. jp270 will leave about slightly half a cm of room. i’ve read conflicting reports about the rebula 2 v1 that it’s recommended to go half size up due to its fit while some say it’s true to size. that said, for those who owned both, what do you recommend? in my case, should i go for jp275 since i went half a size down for morelia or should i go true to size with jp270? thanks!
I'd say go true to size. That's what I did. Decent boot just hate the heel of them like everyone else and kinda longer break in time vs other mizuno boots
Def should have gone with the MiJ, I never bother with the indonesian made Mizunos. MiJ doesnt have issues from all the reviews I've seen/read.
True to size on the Rebula 2s. Personally, they Rebula 1s are better because the Rebula 2s cause hot spots in the heel. The Rebula 3s are a leap ahead of both.
Just got two big blisters on my heels during a game. Thought I had broken them in enough... Haven't had blisters since my nike mercurial vapor IV days
sounds like a no go for the rebula. good that i found this thread first. may just try to hunt down either the monarcida 2 or neo jp. not sure why my morelia 2 tm causes high stud pressure when i tried on fg.
Yeah, unfortunately that is the downside of the Rebula 2s. The Morelia Neo 2s are fantastic. But if you want to save a bit of cash, the Monarcida Neos give you a lot of bang for your buck.
