That's fine, it is their country's #1 sport after all. But to act like there is some "gap" between the likes of Mexico, the US, and even a Costa Rica is ridiculous. The truth of the matter is Concacaf has about 3-4 teams that are about equal and on any given day can beat each other. Those same 3-4 teams wouldn't stand a chance if they were geographically located in South America or Europe. Just facts. Mexican fans need to de-illusion themselves.
In soccer in any given day a team can beat another and pull an upset. What differentiates teams like France, Germany, England, Spain, Argentina, Brazil from others is talent. Talent wins you games and championships, not coaching. That’s something that Mexico has had for the most part in their history in this region and why they are able to win outside of concacaf. Let’s be honest, there’s a reason why everyone in concacaf doesn’t do anything but park the bus against Mexico. There’s clearly one superior team in the region. You don’t see that when Brazil plays Argentina or the top teams around the same talent level play against each other.
People acting like Diego Lainez isn't a player missing that should be here, probably have no idea that Alvarado and Antuna, who both have gotten tons of playing time in this Gold Cup, played second fiddle to Lainez last summer in the Toulon tournament, where he was voted MVP of the tournament, despite Lainez being couple years younger than them.
Well I respectfully disagree. That clearly superior team shouldn't have advanced in each of the last two Gold Cups (lucky undeserved garbage) and should have been left at home during the WC cycle before that last one. That's not the resume of a dominant team. It's actually ridiculously similar to the United States.
Any fan of a team that talks about needing player X to not look bad against Haiti is probably a fan of a national team that’s not very elite. Call me crazy.
Haiti was undefeated and beat teams like Costa Rica and Canada. We arent talking about Curacao who got dominated by El Salvador and Honduras and only reason they tied Jamaica was due to them starting their bench.
Mexico can’t win every single year. I don’t understand how Mexico qualifying in 2014 and US not qualifying in 2018 is similar or even makes those countries even close to being similar?
Well............I'm not a Mexico fan............but Haiti did beat Costa Rica and Canada in this event. Haiti ain't Andorra. In their Gold Cup warmup, Haiti played in Chile.....................and only lost 2-1. Chile will be playing in the Copa America semifinal tonight. The truth is that Mexico and US fans argue in circles. Mexico is on top right now. I don't know who could question that. Just to note, in their last 10 head to head meetings the results are: US 4 wins Mexico 2 wins Draws 4 But in the games that actually matter (the non-friendlies) over that stetch of games, Mexico has the edge. Mexico 2 wins US 1 win Draws 2 The one US win is about to age out in the "last 10 head-to-head meetings" category as well. That was the home WCQer in the 2014 cycle.
That is something I don't get: were we to troll their boards like this, we'd be carded and kicked out right away, yet here our mods allow these Mexicans to come and troll us with impunity.
Vela looks retired. And we'd look very different with Tyler Adams... I see nobody making those excuses for the USA muddling through this tournament. Agreed. He's a hold-up option that Mexico often didn't have against us. Maybe Oribe Perralta.
