LOL at Mexicans saying this is their "B-C team." They're only missing Chucky & Carlos Rodriguez in their starting lineup with respect to the Chile revenge game.
I've never understood the American fascination with the alphabet game. It only looks at how many "A players" are missing and completely ignores how essential they might be individually or how much they could change a tactical setup. With Herrera, Lozano, Tecate, Hernandez, Lainez, Macias, Vela, and Layun we'd at least have the option to play a formation that magnifies our strengths. These fullbacks don't have the talent to play a 4-3-3 and Raul would be much better off with a partner like Macias, Hernandez, or Vela.
I think that the entirety of what you described is implicit in the letter ratings, at least that is what it means to me but to each their own. I agree that that team looks completely different with Vela.
You're the ones using the "B-C team" excuse, when you know very well this is close to your A-team. And Vela has retired from the international game. What do you want him to say? "...it was two fundamental things: first, come family issues where I have my own priorities and I won't be saying anything else about them because it's private stuff, but that's one of the important factors; the others, I think I've already had my turn, I've had my chances, I've played many games with the national team and it's not like anything extraordinary happened when Carlos Vela played.... I also think it's time to give the chance to other people, there are young players that for sure will arrive in better conditions to the World Cup, because I'll be 34 then and I don't see any problem with my absence, I believe Mexico will still be the favorite team, and of course will win the Gold Cup, because they are the best..."
thats two of the last three gold cups mexico reaches the final due to a very late, very questionable penalty in a game they cant find a goal. almost like being concacaf-ed isnt a bad thing for EVERY team...
B-C team. Please, even you could have scored that. Your lovely BSMX fan base would have said thing to us “nads” if we were in the same situation.
Which is crazy as I thought they were going to put up 2-3 versus Mexico but ship 4-5. I wonder if they out thought themselves rather than going for it with their strength last night.
Its funny that just before the end of regular time I said to my Son...........I bet the reason they don't have VAR in the Gold Cup is just in case they need to "help" Mexico again with a late PK............10 minutes later, boom, smdh. CONCACAF officials strike again.
Link to a video of the foul anywhere? I didn't see it because I live on the east coast and had to work today. Agree that CONCACAF is desperate to avoid a 4th straight GC final without US-Mexico. Good news is we should get some help from the refs tonight if we need it, hopefully we won't.
VAR wouldn't stop them, they'd make a big show of reviewing it and then make whatever call they wanted to anyway.
I don't care about this "A" or "B" or "C" team nonsense. National team programs call who they can and want to call on. Good national team programs have the depth to overcome such absences. Every national team can make arguments about the players that aren't available. Don't use that as an excuse when you're a program as big as the US or Mexico. Only the losers remember the players that weren't available. I also don't know what this nonsense is about CONCACAF desperately wanting a Mexico/US final. [I know its tongue in cheek ] The president of CONCACAF..................is Canadian. Vice Presidents from Costa Rica and Barbados. People think Decio De Maria is doing what? Bribing officials on behalf of CONCACAF leadership? I imagine CONCACAF leadership would LOVE for a team other than the US or Mexico to win the thing. The last time a nation other than the three most popoulous nations in the region won (US, Mexico, Canada)..........................was 1973.
Just like the final in 2017, no, wait. The 2015 final? Oh, then definitely the 2013 final? Seems they last met in 2011, yet the Gold Cup survived all that time.
People keep stating concacaf wants Mexico in the final. If concacaf wanted Mexico they wouldn’t have called a phantom penalty against Mexico, allowing Costa Rica to tie and they never would’ve gone to pks against Costa Rica.
I'm honestly pretty sick and tired of Mexico being hyped up as some "Giant". They are overrated, plain and simple. Better said, they've BEEN overrated for some time now. We didn't qualify for the last World Cup, but how conveniently Mexico fans forget the SAME EXACT THING ALMOST HAPPENED TO THEM THE CYCLE BEFORE THAT WHEN WE....IRONICALLY..... BAILED THEM OUT with that meaningless Zusi goal. We are far from world beaters, but to say Mexico is superior to the US, or maybe even some of the other Concacaf team, as if there is some imaginary "gap" is just filling the Mexican driven narrative. They aren't anywhere near as good as they think they are, and sadly it's their country's #1 sport and all their fans cling to it. At least the US can make the excuse soccer is, at best, 3rd or 4th on a national scale in terms of priority at the youth levels. Rant over.....but there is nothing more obnoxious on this planet than cocky Mexican fans ...except maybe cocky Florida Gator fans
Well Mexico does have the most gold cup championships that actually matter for the confederations cup. They are also the only country in concacaf that has won tournaments outside of concacaf in all age categories. There’s not much any other country in this region can say.
