I agree with all that. It seems to happen to players when they go to Barca. Playing in their system brings out the best Or the worst in a player. Suarez worked really good but more players from the prem seem to have trouble fitting in and end up on the bench. Macca and Mikey for instance. Iiiiiif he ended up back, I wonder how he would play under Klopp?
You mean La Liga, not just Barca - Macca and Mikey went to Madrid! also McManaman was brilliant for the first couple of years for Madrid, then they just didn't play him as much after Figo (his equal) and Beckham (not his equal on the field, but certainly quadruple him in shirt sales) came in....
We still brought him in as a youngster and helped him advance his career. These are the types of success stories that can be sold to other youngsters. Solanke will have no regrets about joining Liverpool.
That's true as far as joining Liverpool is concerned, but Zaq is correct about Chelsea, as you are well aware. Solanke was an established youth player when he joined Liverpool, having scored a total of 27 goals for England U20s and younger.
But he left Chelsea for Liverpool because Chelsea has a bad reputation for how they treat young players. They have over 40 players out on loan and don’t give any of them a chance at the first team or a move to another club where they can get their chance. City have a bad reputation as well. Jadon Sancho had to leave City to get his chance. Liverpool had to fight off several German clubs that wanted Rihan Brewster. Klopp made promises to Brewster that he will get his chance. It’s important that Klopp follows through and gives him a chance this season. It will show the other players in the academy and youngsters around Europe that Liverpool is a club where they can make it.
My point was this: Solanke was already an established young player when he joined Liverpool. His contract with Chelsea ran its course and Liverpool was his next destination. I'm sure his stint at Liverpool advanced his career to a degree, certainly more than staying at The Bridge, the home of dashed hopes for young starlets.
Bottom line is though, that unless Tihan Brewster is a lot better than Solanke he will not get to many chances. Origi (as I pointed out when he was loaned out and Solanke was brought in for a replacement look) is/was much better than Solanke (IMO). Word is that Brewster is very good. In which case I hope to see him take up Sturridge's role next season. (Studg is gone, right?)
Seeing as how Origi is about 3 years older than Solanke, he should be. At this point I think Origi is better than Sturridge, though not a first option in crucial matches. Whether Solanke's upside is a high as Origi's remains to be seen.
Danny Ings move to Soton finalized. All the best Danny, we hardly knew ye ..... https://talksport.com/football/566993/danny-ings-exclusive-liverpool-southampton/ 20 million fee, bought him for 7 mill. damn good business.
damnit, things are slow on the transfer front. I wonder if experienced players are looking at the cohesion and effectiveness the team has shown, and the fact that we have so few "holes to fill" ... and concluded they'd likely get very few starting minutes with us?
I'm not sure they are slow. All we need is a back up left back, possibly a right back if Clyne leaves, though Gomez may be expected to fill in that position next season. I'd imagine that Klopp wants to give Wilson some preseason games to access him and he may still be undecided on Lallana. Sturridge only played 500 league minutes last season and ideally we'd expect Origi (368 league minutes) and Brewster to cover those rather than bring in another squad forward. Klopp seems to have done a 180 on Shaqiri, he seemed out of favour for a large part of the second half of the season but seems to have redeemed himself in the last few games of the season. If he's happy I'd rather we retain him than replace him. Last season we had Ox out for pretty much all of it, Lallana for the vast majority of it. Those two players are going to play a lot more this season. I can't imagine that Origi has not been promised more game time with his new contract. Both Fabinho and Keita were slowly integrated into the team, I fully expect Fab to start far more than 21 league games next season. We just don't actually need that much.
that's my point ... Mbappe is just about the only player I can think of who would automatically start ahead of the current options we have.
Yet there is nothing our team can do to convince him to join us to make that happen. I really hope our youth ascends.....because I cant think of anyone other thatn Mbappe to put us to the next level, yet despite winning the CL i feel like this team needs another big thing to be that relevant. They don't need to spend ridiculous money on mid tier talent like Man City or Real Madrid is sniffing (I know there are some higher end players linked). I am just saying this team has grown with Klopp as a special group as Klopp has done in the past. Lets not make a team to sell to our top competition, but lets make a team where the competition wishes they could afford them.
I'm all for Team Cohesion and "Dont fix what ain't broken" but with our first choice front three all being on extended national duty, I think its crucial we dont drop any points in the first 45 days of the PL Season due to Bobby or Salah's unavailability. A Versatile Wing Forward to give the Opposition something ELSE to think about could be the difference between 2nd and 1st and could keep things Fresh attacking wise. But Hey,Klopp knows better. YNWA.
