To be fair, Championship salaries have gone up considerably during the last decade or two.

Another data point for how fall the SPL and Rangers have fallen. Rangers were knocked out of Europe today by a team from Luxembourg(!) that had never won a game in Europe before tonight...

Let's hope this gives him the spark to kick on and maybe at least be MNT caliber in a couple of years. Never forget Kyle Beckerman was on the same youth teams as Beasley and Landon then vanished for 10 or so years before became the kind of 6 the USA needed post Armas/Mastroeni.

During last night's game, i found my mind wandering to such subjects as "can anyone in the current player pool play central midfield right now?"

And then I remembered the once promising career of Emerson. I really hope this will be good for him.

Also starting drifting to prior dreams of Danny Williams - I always thought he would figure more prominently.

Actually Beckerman was one of the top Americans in MLS for the most of those 10 years.

That plus a game ticket got him into USMNT games during those years.

Does Atlanta have a hole in their first XI he can fill? If they do, it’s a surprise to me. I’d rather he had gone to a more needy team. Like Montreal; they need a middie.

Edu and Bradley was a nice pairing in 2010.

Much maligned Clark wasn't bad either. Benny could play it as well.

I think just shows how poorly Hyndman chose the teams he went to. He would have been a better fit in Holland, Belgium, Portugal or Spain before then trying to move to England. Heck Germany would have been better. His insistence on England or nothing seems to have put him in a perpetual cycle where he was end of the bench bad loan material.

Pretty amazing what FCD got in return for Hyndman's rights, considering.........

    1) He left in 2011.
    2) He only trained at FCD for about a year.

Its a little surprising to me that FCD didnt' want Emerson themselves consider that Pomykal could/should be sold at some point soon. And we've heard rumors of Roberts going as well (Bayern on loan?). Grueso is likely to be gone to Germany.

So FCD could use some central midfield reinforcements, no?
Or are they going to fill from the academy with players like Almaguer and Tessman?

Actual content from IAD... what is this place coming to.

Since MLS fans are always looking for confirmation how great the league is, lets use your description of EH when evaluating the league.

This move makes EH's odd inclusion in the u23 camp that he isnt eligible for make more sense. If only he had made the move before the 40 man roster came out, he could have played in the GC. I guess after watching this version of the MLS National Team, the league had some extra incentive to find some better americans. I think EH can improve the depth in the midfield while waiting for Pomyal, Medez, Ledezma, etc to mature.

We've heard so many Egg/USSF defenders say or imply that MLS is just a tier below the top 4-5 leagues, and certainly better than the Scottish league. If he failed to impress much for a mid-table team there (not sure they are mid-table, just not Celtic or Rangers), I assume nobody is that excited about his arrival in Atlanta?

Not like Atl is struggling for talent, either. Seems like he'll be a bench guy/backup/depth player, right?

Still remember reading how he was the brightest prospect of a few U20 tourneys. Sad his free fall, as creative middies are not exactly something we produce in waves.

He has a ton of talent (from an american player standpoint), but his physical tools have always been something he needed to overcome. He finally got a preseason with Bournemouth and looked to be a level or bit below. His loan to Rangers was more successful than the one to Hibs. This highlights the issue with these transitive property comparisons. I have been high on him because I think we need more players with his skillset.... very technical, smart, and very professional.

I have been less excited about his national team chances for about a year and this doesnt help long term, but should get him a shot in the near term. He was captain and leader of the 2015 team. He was the outlet for all other players and really held that team together. He also outplayed Trapp with the u23s in games against Colombia. The only American MLS midfielder I would consider taking over him would be Pomykal and that is only for the upside.

I doubt he went from an EPL salary to something that MLS would be willing to pay a bench player. If you havent seen him play, there are a number of youtube highlights/all touches of him (just search or try the YA thread).

Not sure Hyndman is better than Pomykal right now. Acosta was also a contemporary of Hyndman's and is out of the national team picture right now. I always thought Acosta was slightly better but they had different skill sets. Perhaps Atlanta will finally be a good fit for him and also what the nats do in the near future could suit him also. I never root for less good choices so I hope he tears it up (against everyone but FCD of course).

I'm generally very sceptical about athletically limited players on the NT. I can't actually recall anyone really successful in the last 20 years, it's always Sascha-Trapp-Adu range.

I hope this works out for Hyndman. I was always disappointed by his lack of progression. Has one of the smoothest touches in our entire program.

Unless the Nagbe->Columbus move comes off, that would be my prediction.

As an Atlanta fan, Nagbe better stay where he’s at. I can’t see him going.

Regardless, I see Emo as a replacement for Pity who has been terrible for Atlanta.
