Also still waiting on your perspective on the following: I'll add the following since you commented on my article: 5. do you think that playing a poor defending 6 doesn't cause our other midfielders to move backwards, including Pulisic? 6. do you think that the USSF has a poor culture? Thanks.
Are we back on 16 minutes played in 2018/19 Timmy Chandler? Geez, give Timmy a break and let him get his game going again.
To be fair, Chris, the point at hand is OfficeSpace's oft-repeated assertion that Chandler lacked commitment to the USMNT rather than how many minutes he played recently. One has little to do with the other. I'd like to engage OfficeSpace in a discussion where he has to defend his position and I'll defend mine as opposed to his launching ad hominem attacks.
Wednesday is a major test. A 2nd defeat at home to Jamaica in less than 1 month would be absolutely shocking, especially after the discouraging performance against Curacao.
I would say that the Jamaica test is still at the point where a win doesn't really mean much but a loss does. So far we have won three which haven't really meant much....the Curacao "win" raised more questions than it answered and the first two wins were just what we were supposed to do....we finished sitters. Curacao was a sitter too but it hit the post before going in. .
Not sold on Beerholder's tactics, the formation in particular. Curacao played like a classic Dutch 4-3-3 team and they used their "build-up" to move the defense and when they had the opening they went forward quickly. Once they worked it past the front "5" press, or bypassed our front line altogether with a pass or a guy running at them, they had numbers and space against the 1 man holding mid, and our backline. Also by using a stay at home LB like Ream, that pinned Arreola back with no support for forward runs. Not sure why 3Gs didn't try throwing Lima on one side and some speed like with Cannon on the other. If we aren't getting push down the flanks we are in trouble given our problems at CF.
That’s bonkers. The search was so secretive we know very, very little about who might have been interested, but I’m pretty damn sure they could have someone with a better resume.
A guy who played in Europe and MLS, coached in Europe and MLS, played for the USMNT. Again, hard to find someone who has more experience with all of the parties.
Who cares? They're under no obligation to hold a public search. And that's such a cheap line. You're pretty sure but you can't name anybody. Sounds like a good racket you got there.
He sucked as a coach in Europe. I wasn’t criticizing, just making an observation. And that observation leads to the fact that we know so little about the search that anyone saying stuff like we couldn’t have gotten anyone better is talking out their ass. YOU DON’T KNOW THAT.
Based on what? This is such nonsense. Teams win in European Leagues because they have better talent and more money than their opposition. Gregg Berhalter was no better or worse than any of the other coaches at Hammarby. They finished 11th the year before Berhalter was hired. They finished 4th place in his first year. They fired him in the middle of his second year when they were in 8th place (they finished 5th). People are so bad at evaluating coaching or evaluating anything that they see.
I said it would be hard to have found someone as qualified as Berhalter who would take the job. I know this because I know Berhalter's resume and I know that he would've taken the job (he did). You can continue with the hypotheticals.
The USSF should fire Egg (and Jay too, if that's what it takes) and try to sign Morocco's coach. That guy has done a terrific job, scours Europe for eligible duals, sets them up to win. Excellent.
I think Egg learned a few things in this tournament. For one thing I think he realized that putting a roster together for a tourney is different from putting one together for a couple of friendlies. In tournaments, there really isn't room for supernumeraries like ex-roomates. An extra striker usually comes in handy, especially if your starter is a hammy rehab in progress. You probably want to have an experienced captain take the armband in a GC final v. Mexico in Soldado Field. I keep thinking of those eyeballs bulging out of McKennie's head when Guardado grabbed him by the throat and squeezed.

I've had some time to think about it. Gagg should be fired. He's out of depth, and the US shouldn't be a training wheels program.
Exactly. Head coach of the USMNT is a high profile job with huge amounts of money at risk. Just ask Fox Sports.
We are on the cusp of the greatest wave of local talent we have ever seen and you want us to "scour Europe"? It's not even like the program is bad at that.
Most of that talent is actually in Europe. Whatever GB and the USSF is doing, the back half of the GC roster was pathetic and was a serious problem versus Mexico. If the Cupcake players are analogous to training wheels, it is time to take them off. There are also players in MLS that are better than counterparts on the GC roster. The big questions for GB coming out of the Gold Cup are kind of the same questions as going in: 1. Where does Pulisic play? Offensively, where he was worked well. Defensively, maybe not so much. 2. Where does Tyler Adams play? Many assume, some are hopeful, but who knows. 3. Can he teach his Positional system? I think the players understand the system. At least with the ball. Without the ball there are problems. Maybe they just haven't really worked on that. 4. Can GB evaluate talent? Nobody seems entirely confident that he can.
I absolutely want to do that. We can use as many quality players as we can get. The deeper the pool, the less of a problem injuries become. One of the dumber comments I have seen on here was people claiming that losing Jonathin Gonzalez was no big deal because we have Adams. The program has been quite poor at it over the last 2.5 years. Arena didnt even try. Have we gotten anyone other than Boyd? I recruiting duals should be one of the top priorities. it could replace doing anything possible to get MLS players on the field.
