That's a valid point. At the end of the day [I'm giving myself a pass for using that expression because it literally is the end of the day where I am]... That Star-Spangled Banner yet waves.
Your emoji is broken. It literally made no sense. People want women's soccer to be taken seriously. The USWNT is being taken very, very seriously and has the expectations to match. Sorry if that is a problem suddenly.
Eh, technical difficulties. It was super funny on this end. They’re taken plenty seriously. I’m not sure freaking out over every non-dominant performance by a program that’s never won a WC is a good model to follow. And jeez, if they’re paying attention to what a bunch of random fans on the internet are saying, they’re in big trouble. They’re doing just fine without scouring message boards our cutting edge analysis. This is all just for us.
We have seen people red carded for less than that and outside the area in world cups-- Hard Workin' Mike for one.''
Oh, they are now. And that comes with heavy criticism where warranted. Why do you keep on banging on this completely useless "zero world cups" thing? Do you honestly think that the relative levels of competition are anywhere in the same universe? I mean, I've seen you post elsewhere, and I don't get that impression. This is a particularly dumb sentence. Discussion and criticism is for...well, discussion and criticism. No one seriously gives a flying ******** if Alex Morgan cries herself to sleep in the hotel after reading BigSoccer. The team themselves is in no way the audience. Yep! So why did you even blurt out the prior sentences? You're being silly.
But this is a women's match and everyone knows that the poor defenseless little things would never ever give cause to believe that a foul like that was even remotely cause for a sever punishment like a red card. At most it could be a yellow and even then you risk the little weak things breaking out in tears. (Cue Tom Hanks and substitute "soccer for baseball" ) Just in case it gets missed by some people the above was both satire and hyperbole.
It wasn't a great performance. We are going to have a match in the World Cup where people are going to be like, that wasn't convincing and if they play like that next match, they are going home... blah blah blah. This was our match fellas. Rose Lavelle got a studs up but Rose also really sold it as she tumbled down like that. Do I want to win that way? No way. I want them to score a good honest to goodness goal, not a bunch of penalties. But that VAR review was also a good 5-7 minutes long if I remember correctly, the ref even took a second glance as she left the video to call it a pen. All in all, this was exactly what China was doing to us all game, fouling and taking us off our rhythm and seeing if they can counter-attack. They were pretty darn successful and they are going to be scary good as they develop and their youth players get more experience on the senior squad. Was it a great performance by the US? No, I really am not feeling Rapinoe, even though she made both of the PKs. Alex Morgan is off, she's not telling the public anything apparently. I believe she is fighting through an injury that will come out after the US make their run through the WC. Luckily we have Press and McDonald, uh hello Jill? Play them more! They are starters on another team and they are going to be more effective if Morgan isn't 100 percent. Becky and Alyssa..... oh my. Don't get me started. Those two are giving me a heart attack every time the opposing side gets their way with us. France is going to have them beat, you heard it here first folks. We need to everything we can to get back into an offensive rhythm that makes us a whole level above everyone else cause our defense is baaaaaad.
This, in my limited experience, is one of the bigger USWNT "homer" posters. This post, however, is a very honest assessment. Apparently, that's a bad thing.
Well, yes, I am. My original post was glibly referencing some (IMO) over-the-top criticism throughout the stream of the match. Someone actually suggested if Rapinoe started the second half, it was proof that it was about ratings rather than winning. Now THAT is silly. I think there are some people who take the “discussion” a little too seriously. YMMV.
Wow, dude. Are you okay? Honestly, you have my permission to discuss anything you like. For realz. Go nuts.
I saw a non-quoted post that just said "wow, tough room" and seemed to take exception to criticism of the team. I didn't see anything about replying to a weird ratings argument.
The point of the game is to score more goals than the opponent, not use up all your energy. Furthermore, it is a tournament of many games, not a single game. Therefore, the strategy should be to win while conserving energy.
One thing I don't understand about the game yesterday was the why we never saw a single replay when the Spanish player ended up on the deck with the black & blue eye. seems to me that that was a foul or even could've been worse for violent play but we never saw a single replay. Didn't VAR look at it?
There wasn't anything for the Spanish penalty shout at the very end, either (which was totally a dive, but almost certainly involved that precious "contact", too).
But we did see the 'vicious' facial swipe by Rapino to the face of Cordereo that resulted in a yellow. Too bad the ref never saw the play, either live or on replay. That card should be rescinded, but it won't.
Him I thought it occurred where Mewis ran over somebody in midfield who stepped in front of her away from the ball. We got a long-distance view but not a close one.
