I don't want to see football right now, I'm not interested in copa without Japan. Well, now we have to remember the positive sides and Japan comes out with its head held high

Misses aside, Ayase Ueda has an incredible knack for getting into open positions at the right time. Screw joining Kashima in 2021, he should go play pro minutes right now.

I hope that this finishing problem will eventually disappear because it's frustrating I have trouble sleeping me who lives in France it's 4am but I keep thinking about missed opportunities. I want to forget and remember the good sides but despite everything I have the images in mind especially the goal out of play at the last minute

At least that’s the agreement on paper. But nothing keeps him from playing minutes for Kashima (or another J club) under the double-registration process in the meantime.

Daizen Maeda today missed quite a few chances as well, not just Ueda. At least Ueda's positioning was good, if he can work on his finishing, he will be a good player. Yuma Suzuki back in around 2016/2017 was also like that, he was poor at finishing but good in positioning and physical play. He developed his technical skills a lot since then.

Either way, the CBs and Itakura were pretty decent today. If either one of Shoji/Tomiyasu gets injured, Ueda can maybe stand in. His passing is pretty decent for a CB at least, but he really needs to keep his balance when blocking shots and not fall down to the ground when making a block imo.

Kubo's passing in the final third is good. Kento Misao maybe would have added some stability if was here as well. I think maybe Japan would finish some chances if Yuma Suzuki was here, maybe even Miyashiro can help a bit with the finishing of chances as well if he played as good as he played against Mexico in the U-20 WC consistently here.

Also, I think Schmidt and maybe Wakahara should get more minutes now. Kawashima should not be used in JNT matches already imo, especially with his age in the 2022 WC. Hopefully Kosuke Nakamura reverts back to his 2017 level too, has been unlucky with injuries.

I agree. He better find a way to study university and play pro at the same time.

For the record, an NFL player from my home province was able to finish medical school at McGill University and play NFL football through an agreement between all parties involved. There has to be a way to get everyone on the same page in Ueda's case.

Nevertheless, it is worrying to have such a poor finish regardless of one's level. I also hope that Ueda can improve his finishing, but that is also a matter of instinct based on what I saw of the best strikers out there.

what a frustrating game. shocking composure in front of goal as always but why am i disappointed by this.

    eiji kawashima
    - okay game. terrible back passing from his team mates resulting in average clearances.

    tomoki iwata
    - strange thinking this guy was bench warming at oita trinita in j3 three years ago. okay defensively.

    naomichi ueda
    - solid game. very composed when tomiyasu was struggling at times.

    takehiro tomiyasu
    - uncomfortable on the ball in the first 60 minutes. excellent in the last 30 minutes. cannot be easy playing next to sugioka. he was covering left back so many times.

    daiki sugioka
    - solid j league player and nothing more. very clumsy on the ball, makes the most simple pass look so difficult. very slow and nervous in defence. it looked like he was playing with concrete boots.

    gaku shibasaki
    - this guy needs to leave getafe asap. never stopped working in midfield. good unassuming leadership.

    ko itakura
    - much better game after uruguay. looked very solid in the second half. his physicality in midfield is valuable.

    takefusa kubo
    - what a player this guy will be. he looked exhausted but never stopped trying. most likely player to score in the second half. very good job shielding the ball from bigger players.

    koji miyoshi
    - went missing for large periods. he should've been subbed so much earlier.

    shoya nakajima
    - good and bad. plays well with kubo. no excuse for missing his shot in the final play.

    shinji okazaki
    - typical okazaki performance. nothing spectacular.

    ayase ueda
    - so much potential. gtfo university and join kashima now. his ability to find space is uncanny. looked promising every time we were attacking. scared to score unfortunately.

    daizen maeda
    - needed more game time against a tiring defence. his shooting was embarrassing.

    hiroki abe
    - average form this season. average performance in this game.

what the ******** is wrong with moriyasu! many people have already mentioned this but why the slow timing of the subs? always the case. (yes his finishing is average) but daizen maeda should've played 20+ minutes. what is the point of bringing him with two minutes left? both teams were tiring and moriyasu just stands there oblivious to everything.

biggest concern is moriyasu just thinks passing the ball to nakajima and kubo will fix everything. there was no urgency in anything. slow aimless passing and praying these two guys will produce a goal out of nothing.

Shibasaki is a world class material, right there with Hasebe when his head is right. Created 3 big chances throughout the group stage second only to James, and it was against the likes of Uruguay and Chile!

On his torrid off-day though, like at the Asian Cup, he is an appaling player to watch.

Shibasaki is world class material once in a while, the rest of the time he’s Pedrõtaru Yamaguchi.

Kubo holding the ball against bigger defenders totally surprised me.
It seems at 18yo he has something that the most of japanese offensive md/fws lack.

Another player like Yanagisawa comes to mind. Not a bad player, not at all. But not a striker. Just as Suzuki. But better. Closest Japan had a real striker must be Takahara. What I can remember. And I also remember another Kubo wich was fantastic for a while and then dissapeared. You guys remember him?

Coach that's running this operation needs to be fired. Japan missed a golden opportunity make a name for themselves in this Historic Cup. Japan never treated this tournament with any respect by fielding the best team. There was no respect for this Cup. This was a disgraceful performance.

    @ Kenny South

The clubs didn't let their Players go to Copa America like Bundesliga, Premiere League and so on cause Japan is from anther continent and the Fifa Rules are different then. No club has to let their players go to a an tournament from a different continent and almost all clubs from the main players of the Japan national tram says no. That's the reason why Japan Pla with a youth team.

But from good locking and attractivity Japans 3 games where one of the most entertaining performances of the hole Copa America so far. It was very beauty but not that effectiv when it comes to goals.

Overall good tournament, but Japan could have done better with better preparation. Moriyasu should have tested Copa America players in the T&T and El Salvador friendlies. They played the Chile game like a friendly.
