Not really rooting for either team, but Labbé and Buchanan advancing would help my Fantasy football team at this WWC. So far, most of the matches of the Round of 16 were good ones: I hope this one is too.
I calling for a Canada win, but Sweden is one of those teams that can totally destroy a dominate team then follow up with a complete butt kicking from an unknown...i never know what to expect with them and it always makes for interesting matches
06' 0-0 Beckie dribbles at arc top wide left, Sweden are in their compact shell. Switch right to Lawrence down box right to 8m, cross over 6-box bounces at 3m 8-left. Sinclair slips a pass down wide left for Chapman overlapping to box left foot, Glas blocks cross over. 08' 0-0 Canada right ck, to 6m 3-left, Schmidt glance-heads wide left and over. 09' 0-0 Buchanan turns away from Blackstenius' pressure, long backpass. Sweden have their top line strung out across circle top, maintaining disciplined spacing and calmly waiting for Canada to work their way through. 10' 0-0 Canada switch left to Beckie at 25m box left. Beckie passes down wide right to Lawrence, Rolfö takes ball away. That match-up totally makes sense: when RB Lawrence goes forward, LW Rolfö goes with her
13' 0-0 Beckie chases past box top wide left, heavy touch through 12m box left, Glas recovers and pokes over endline left. 14' 0-0 Fleming left ck, to 6m 3-left. Schmidt heads straight up, ball rattles around at 13m left post, Canada scuffs it down to 8m 6-left and Jakobsson clears into near touch. 14' 0-0 Lawrence cross to box top right post, Fleming heads it off Sembrant, it bounces back to arc top. Sinclair passes to Beckie at box top 6-left, she drives hard down 6-left, Glas pokes over. 15' 0-0 Eriksson(?) clears up box left for Blackstenius 1-v-2, LB Chapman(!) comes all the way across from circle back and clears into far touch.
At Parc des Princes for Sweden-Canada world cup match ! May the best team win ! #WomenInSport #SWECAN #FIFA #WWC2019 🇸🇪 ⚽️🇨🇦 pic.twitter.com/NNyTIHvOgG— Amiinah Rawa (@AmiinahRawa) June 24, 2019
18' 0-0 Jakobsson darts between 2 at circle top box right, collects ball and drives on a 2-v-3 to arc tangent right, ignores Blackstenius and shoots right foot, wide left low. 20' 0-0 Schmidt dribbles to 24m 6-left, hard right outstep pass down box left for Chapman chasing. Chapman stutter-steps for a one-touch cross, ball escapes 0.5m over endline first. Sweden's backline was caught high, they handled Canada's frontline but didn't match up with the overlapping run from deep. 22' 0-0 Lawrence crosses to Sinclair at 12m mid-right, backpass to Fleming at arc top. Fleming passes thigh-high behind Sinclair, high bicycle drops to 10m 6-right. Schmidt jumps with Sembrant, ball bounces out to 13m mid-right. Fleming shoots right foottop volley, high over bar. Sinclair is a stable pivot, Schmidt is in the role of glackett (the metal mixing ball in a can of spray paint)
26' 0-0 Beckie chases ball down at endline wide left, Fischer calmly holds her ground. Beckie tries to round her along endline, loses ball over. Nothing bothers Sweden, but they're giving up a lot of free entries down the wide sides. 27' 0-0 Prince holds at 5m wide right, jukes endline and crosses to 6-top right, headed away. 27' 0-0 Lawrence(?) chips through box top right, Prince chases (way offside), Lindahl collects at 9m box right. Delayed flag, per the modern Prime Directive
Sweden vs Canada: The battle to see who can win the race to the most unforced errors. Both teams have been riding their reputations rather than actually playing well. I wonder if either will score before penalties. Sinclair used to be a great player but now she lives on nothing but effort. Her skill has dropped and her speed, never good, has become truly bad. But Canada is convinced they cannot win without her so they usually play 10 1/2 v 11.
30' 0-0 Zadorsky(??) chips long from midfield box right through box top right, Prince chases behind Eriksson to 2m box right. Cross outswings over everybody, bounces at 12m 6-left. Chapman chases it down at box top left, wrestles Glas for it. 32' 0-0 Sinclair standing through-ball try at 30m arc left, blocked back to her, she knocks it forward to Fleming. Schmidt switches right to Prince, her cross blocked by Rolfö. Lawrence collects that, drives down box right but slices her cross into Rolfö(?), Sweden clear. This is Canada's scheme: Sinclair is the roaming pivot not relying on sprints, and their speedy wingers will provide width for switches. So far, their crosses have been really bad. 33' 0-0 Jakobsson drives down to 4m mid-right, cross blocked over by Chapman sliding. It's been ALL defense so far in Canada vs Sweden. Case in point: Allysha Chapman somehow catches up to Jakobsson here 👀 pic.twitter.com/fitASXjIea— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 24, 2019
35' 0-0 Rolfö crosses from 3m wide right to 5m 5-left, Buchanan slide-volleys over endline right. 36' 0-0 Eriksson right ck to 5m 2/5 left, Labbé steps up to Fischer's back and punches away over her head. Stadium view: #CAN controlling the tempo of this game is an unexpected surprise. Also, can we continue the conversation of how good and calm Jessie Fleming is? #SWECAN #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/Z6QrOYUkmp— Ann Odong 🐨🇺🇬 (@AnnOdong) June 24, 2019
Do the French serve wine at the matches? If I were there it would take four or five good glasses to really get into this slow boring match.
38' 0-0 Asllani trips over Zadorsky at circle top 6-right, foul. 40' 0-0 Eriksson fk at circle top arc right, to 6-top left post, Labbé hops and catches high. This game is so clean that there are still more new tweets in the #ESPUSA thread than in the #SWECAN thread 43' 0-0 Fleming cross from wide right just past Sinclair and spot, Fischer heads away.
I actually find Canada one of the most solid teams of this World Cup. But should they win the whole thing, I dare to say that it would be the most boring World Cup win ever!
