I don’t really consider finishing 6th in the Championship as doing well.

Agreed. I don 't anticipate us making the semi. Next round is probably where we exit.

So you post this to let them know that they are on ignore? Doesn’t that contradict the ignore concept?

We lost to TNT. Nothing surprises me anymore, especially under the current regime.

That's the clever part - the morons are too moronic to realize they're morons, and assume he's talking about someone else.

I have a hard time considering that LD has lived to the expectations for him with the NT.

I thought he was talking about struggling and not just being benched. LD failed two more times in Germany. I thought he was talking about the stint in 2005, but should also consider the one in 2009. The Bayern one was at least respectable, but he was embarrassed in the 2005 CL.

Figuring out LD is always challenging. He bounced back from both of these experiences with decent years. What is interesting is that he faded in 2006 and held on an extra year and similarly wasnt himself in 2011 (perhaps due to the successful loan to Everton in 2010).

Luckily, LD is wired differently. I think he will be fine at Chelsea and with the usmnt.

Ribery, wow. You have to figure that's going down if he played more often. Maybe true of CP and Dembele, too. Either way, still exceptional company.

"10-yeard Ball Advancement per 90' " seems a weird statistic for soccer. What is the point of it? You can advance the ball to the corner flag and get trapped there. You can advance the ball only to turn it over with all your midfield in the wrong position.

It seems a rather forced stat.

It's not what is being measured that matters, it's how one compares to others. As a soccer player I'd be happy to be in pretty much any statistical group imaginable that has me in that company.

Compare secondary assists, percent of successful dribbles, crucial passes, free kicks earned.

This is not gridiron, advancing X feet on the field is meaningless.

You're a smart guy, Suyuntuy, and know full well it is not meaningless; it is closely related to moving the ball into goal scoring positions, which is obviously important.

It's very clearly not meaningless... it's about ball advancement versus not losing the ball. There are some good dribblers on Liverpool but they are nowhere near the top right corner of that graph. There's a reason for that, and it's meaningful.

But yeah, combine this with more stats to get a better overall picture, and watch out for small sample sizes. Both things can be true.

Many many team score without advancing the ball.

The guy who does has the initials OG.

If it is so meaningless, why is the list dominated by some of the most valuable soccer players in the world? You don’t have to be Billy Bean to see there’s something to this stat.

You know what I mean. You can advance the ball to make something constructive, ergo measure that which is constructive. Or you can advance the ball only to find yourself cornered and lose it.

Omar Gonzalez = OG. Good lord, it was there all the time!

Yeah, it all depends on how the ball is advanced. Not sure if they applied that ball advance stat just in the opposing half of the field or what. But, it is interesting who bubbled up to the top.
And of course any stat alone isn’t worth much. One needs to combine stats to make a complete picture of a player or team. But, that doesn’t make a single stat such as ball advancement ‘meaningless’ per se, even if it doesn’t provide the whole picture of a player.

While Lampard is on vacation, Benitez just became a free man.

What's the odds on Benitez taking over Chelski?
