4 days remaining for this match, with Japan having 1 extra day of rest.

A win against Ecuador in this match will most likely see Japan through to the quarterfinals, as I don’t think Qatar and Paraguay can beat Argentina and Colombia respectively.

P.S. I like to refer to this team as Japan U-22, as this squad is basically the U-22 squad + 5 overage players.

Moriyasu seems to start to work on his +3 overage slots next year too.

Can we kick out of the competition Argentina?

If we won 1 - 0 and Argentina, helped by the referee with a pk for Messi at 95', won 1 - 0:

    Argentina V1 D1 L1 2-3 (-1) 4points
    Japan V1 D1 L1 3-6 (-3) 4points

We need to win by large while Argentina don't.
The other option is Venezuela lose or draw with Bolivia.

I began this Copa America giving no importance to the points but after Uruguay match I wanna see Japan advance only to annoy Conmenbol corrupted jerks.

Guys, the scenarios you are talking about will only happen if Paraguay defeated Colombia.

If Colombia wins against Paraguay, Japan will qualify with a win against Ecuador regardless of the other results.

Next match is a must win for Japan. Ecuador is tough tho, Moriyasu need to play a full strength squad from the start and not start Ayase Ueda or Nakayama. Maybe Kubo should not start too.

Lol at the Twitter comments. It seems the dude is hated in his own country and well known to help important teams when needed.

Well Ecuador is not that important so we will have a fair match. May the stronger win.

Update: Ecuador lost to Chile 1 - 2 and one of their CB was red carded.

Nice news for us. We MUST beat them: more rest, full team and no helping referee (I hope).

Brazil just won 5-0 against Peru, which means a win by any result for Japan against Ecuador will see Japan progress to the quarterfinals.

We need to win with at least two goals scored

    Peru 4 pts -3 (3 goals scored)
    Japan 1 pt -4 (2 goals scored)

    What about yellow cards ?

Yes, a 1-0 win will see Japan level with Peru in goal difference and goal scored (if only Gabriel Jesus scored that late penalty a 1-0 will be enough for Japan).

A win for Japan by any result other than 1-0 will see Japan qualify.

As for the yellow cards, Peru got 6 yellow cards from 3 matches, while Japan got from 2 matches. So a 1-0 win for Japan against Ecuador with Japan receiving one or none yellow cards will also mean qualification.

Anyhow, we might don’t need all of this calculations if Colombia defeats Paraguay tomorrow.

We need at least one draw in the two last matches of group B (in this case, the 3rd won't have more than 3 points)

Speaking honestly I think we as fans or Moriyasu and JNT players shouldn’t be carried away and think that a win against Ecuador is guaranteed.

Ecuador is a very tough team physically, and is supposed to dominate the physical duels against Japan (at least on paper).

This said, I really hope Moriyasu will not start Kubo, as he is very weak in physical duels and can be neutralised and bullied easily.

I would say that using the same starting line-up Japan fielded against Uruguay is the best option. Starting Maeda instead of Abe will be good, or bringing Maeda in the second half to utilise his speed against tiring Ecuadorean deference will be a great idea.

I am pretty confident that Japan can beat Ecuador, but they have to be prepared psychologically and mentally more than physically to accomplish this task.
Moriyasu shall also has a word to say to Nakajima (and other players to a lesser extent) about holding the ball too much and not passing it to teammates in better positions instead of ending up losing it and giving the opponents a chance to counter.

why if colombia wins against the equator and Japan wins we qualify? if argentina wins tomorrow or qatar it's not won at all it would even be complicated because they took less goals than Japan. the best scenario is that Argentina and Qatar whose match draw they will end up with 2 points, while Japan will only need a win regardless of the score

If Colombia wins or draws against Paraguay this will mean that third place team from Group B will not have more than 3 or 2 points, which will mean that Japan will qualify to the QFs if they win against Ecuador regardless of the result of Argentina vs Qatar.

Nakajima sent out would be a shock but a right move.

The guy is skilled but he didn't add nothing to our attack when he keeps the ball and stubborn in nosense dribbling against 3 defenders. The goals would be scored even without his help.

Moriyasu can field Maeda AND Abe or even Kubo since the kid pass the ball and try to play with his team mates.

I just checked the quarterfinals draw, the 3rd place team of Japan’s group (if qualified) will meet the winner of Group A.

This means Japan will face Brazil if they are qualified to the quarterfinals.

Funny story is that after Brazil the possible opponents would be the like of Venezuela/Paraguay/Qatar/Argentina, easiest opponent ever (imo Argentina actually is weaker than Chile/Uruguay).

But since Brazil will rip us apart as always and we need to face Ecuador first who cares.

arrived in quarter in a cup that is not ours would already be very good! after winning against Brazil at home would just be fantastic. At the World Cup we had to face Brazil in the quarter if we beat Belgium. We may face them in the quarter but at the copa.

As the match is just 48 hours away from now, I have to deliver the following dose of realism:

Japan is playing with an inexperienced U-22 squad + 5 overage players, prior to this tournament most of us were expecting 3 straight loses.
It is good to have optimism, but to think that Japan could easily defeat Ecuador might be an illusion, so let’s tone it down and hope for a decent show against Ecuador like the way the team did against Uruguay, and if a win comes then it will be a bonus. If we qualified to the quarterfinals it will be an extra bonus.

Just hope that the extra bonus will happen (+ an ultimate bonus:geek:).

Ecuador is not an easy opponent, they will also go for a win since they still have chance to qualify.
Against Uruguay and Chile they showed a very aggressive, physical but reckless approach. Uruguay and Chile, as more experience and 'smart', used it against them by luring some yellow cards/ red card, after that Ecuador was doomed.

If Japan also goes gung-ho against Ecuador (aka Nakayama style), it's not a good idea. Other than that they should be composed and utilize their tactical+skills advantage. I'm just afraid the enthusiasm after the draw with Uruguay and the clear opportunity to qualify get in the young players' head and they will approach the game too hot-blood.

Silence among Japanese media, social media platforms, and here.

Is this the silence before the storm?
