Damn, sucks. Well.... Hopefully they play in top tier clubs cause thats the only worthy exp grind they will be doing for the years coming to the next wc
There won't be many chances for that: between the Concacaf Nations League, the next Gold Cup and the contract with SUM and the WC qualifiers, Mexico will be stuck with moleros for the next cycle.
Here are mine. Ochoa - 10 Araujo - 5 Reyes - 10 Gallardo 6 L. Rodriguez - 6 Alvarez - 10 Gutierrez - N/A Guardado - 7 dos Santos - 6 C. Rodriguez - N/A Jimenez - 10 Alvarado - 6 Montes - N/A Antuna -7
Agreed broder. Reyes has been awful, slow and kills the attack. Against better teams he’s definitely a liability.
Best thing I see is the team has direction and a well formed game plan. The players are moving the ball around well and actually making runs to get open. With JCO they players looked lost out there. It's still early, and I want to see tougher competition, but so far I'm liking what I see. It's a shame we don't get to play Copa America.
He pulled that on Cavani during the 2011 Copa America. Extremely unlikely that anything has gone to his head and he has never shown himself to be a player that suffers from being over confident.
Any chance the Copa América teams will want to play Mexico in a friendly to prepare for their tournament?
Canada is an interesting team. They bunker but they had some decent chances on the attack against Mexico. If they can produce more players like Davies or the other player I can't remember his name, they will be a threat in CONCACAF and beyond.
Reyes and Araujo the defenders have really dissapointed me the past years, I am hoping they are late bloomers at this point
Under Osorio, we played very rigid and structured, and then the final third play was pretty horrid. At some point, Osorio pretty much relied on the individuality of Tecatito or a run from Lozano. There were also very few runs behind the defense by our players, I feel. Under Tata, we're more fluid and more liberty is given to the players to move around. There's more combination play when we're in the final third, and players actually make runs behind the defense looking for through balls. I'm still holding my judgement on Tata, but so far those are the improvements I've seen under him.
Got curious and read a Canadian forum: https://www.canadiansoccernews.com/...-19th-2019-canada-vs-mexico/page/25/#comments Don't get such optimism though, while their team didn't look like shit, it never threatened Mexico, they got their goal and quickly got sucker punched... México a medio gas y agrandados en defensa les dieron algunas oportunidades but we missed some too. I have seen the same stuff from Caribbeans when they keep the scoreline close with us. I guess it's just the Mexican in me but when we play like that against a superior team our comments aren't as positive... But well.
I think it's because they probably look a bit more disciplined, and also because they have a new coach at the helm and they're still in the honey moon phase. He's also their soccer director or whatever it's called that oversees the youth categories. So they have a lot of hope in him. Fun fact: their new coach was "promoted" from the Canadian WNT. I guess the federation liked the work he did with them (obtaining two bronze medals at the Olympics) and making them more competitive on the international stage. The men's game is a different story though. Everyone is more developed and more competitive. So we'll see how this interesting move fares for them.
Yeah the coach had the women's side very defensively disciplined with that 4-4-2, so it's no surprise here.
The optimism and tons of criticism on social medias yesterday against the coach was the fact that Canada played their B midfield (essentially defensive mid) and Larin instead of David and attacking mid until the 60th minute. Cyle Larin had no business being there as without the ball, he really serves no purpose unlike Cavallini and David who are more complete players. Same for Teibert and Johnson who aren't capable of pushing the game forward and generating offense and creating scoring opportunities. The game looked different around the 60th minute when Herdman made his triple change. Out: Larin (Besiktas), not playing a lot Teibert (Vancouver Whitecaps), defensive mid Johnson (Orlando City) central midfield but nowhere near as good as Arfield In: David (Gent), in one year, his value went for less than 100k to €9M. Superior to Larin in every way at only 19 years old and was a star in Europa. Osorio (TFC), TFC refused to loan him to Independiente Medellin last season. They noticed the way he played in CCL when he was the top scorer when TFC took down Tigres, America and lost against Guadalajara. Arfield (Rangers), EPL level attacking mid, one of the best in the region. Canada started to play better and press harder which forced the mistake at the back and David passed it to Cavallini who scored. Arfield and Osorio pushed the game forward which allowed Davies to play his game. 1-Herdman goal is to get Canada to the semifinals. For that we need a draw, a win or we could even lose against Cuba and get through assuming Mexico beats Martinique on Sunday. 2-Herdman planned the tournament with meeting Costa Rica in QF and Mexico in SF. He decided to manage the tournament to allow his best squad to be fully rested for the knockout stage, something past coach never did. 3-He will use the Cuba game to rest players 4-Losing the Mexico game wasn't going to prevent us from advancing and winning in altitude was a long shot. So he decided to put out the main defense and exposed them to Mexican attack. Until now, they only had to defended against weaker nations in Nation League Qualifiers. They needed to experience the best attack so they could experience it, learn and adjust. Herdman comments about the defense was that he saw 19 year old Zachary Brault-Guillard (on loan from Olympique Lyonnais to Montreal) and 21 year old Derek Cornelius (Vancouver Whitecaps) with no experience at that level "survive" against the best attack in the region. We expected a much worse result. 5-So he played the B version on our midfield and started Larin instead of David to manage the minutes of Arfield, Osorio, Hoillet and David. Piette is on a yellow card 6-Many disagreed with his tactics but in the last Gold Cup, we played out best squad game after game and lost to Jamaica in the QF, a game we should have won. The team looked out of gas Herdman doesn't want to repeat that. 7- Costa Rica and Haiti will play their best roster on Sunday when they face each other. They will want to win at all cost to avoid Mexico in the Quarterfinals and play Canada instead. 8-Herdman goal is to see Canada surpass Costa Rica by 2022 and qualify us to the World Cup. It starts by beating them here, at the Gold Cup. The goal is defeating Costa Rica. If we win, it's mission accomplished for Canada and a chance to use our best line up (including subs) against Mexico which would look like this Cavallini (Puebla) David (Gent) Davies (Bayern Munich) Arfield (Rangers) Osorio (TFC) Hutchinson (Besiktas) Kaye (Orlando) Cornelius (Vancouver) Henry (Vancouver) Brault-Guillard (Montreal, loaned from Lyon) Borjan (Belgrade Red Star)
