Yes, the same thing I wrote on the Nadeshiko Japan thread: Kobayashi is actually a FW and the only Holding Midfielder is this line-up is Hina Sugita: this suggests Takakura wanting to surprise England with an unexpected 4-3-3 (and a very offensive one at that, since both the wingers, Endo and Nakajima, can actually score goals too). Looks like Takakura actually wants to try to win this game. Sorry, people, but I guess I'll follow this game more on the Nadeshiko Japan thread than here. I see that @Gilmoy opened these threads early, lest I beat him in making them as it happened yesterday!
05' 0-0 Iwabuchi(?) pings a give-and-go pass behind Bright to Yokoyama at 22m arc top. Yokoyama oddly cuts inside right into Bright's zone, shoots long, wide right. 07' 0-0 White receives facing away at 11m 6-right, gets swarmed 1-v-6 and still digs ball away for one more touch, Japan clear. 09' 0-0 Yokoyama fk at 27m left post, driven to left 90 going in, Bardsley flies and pushes it over bar. WHAT A SAVE!!!Yokoyama's perfectly hit free kick from 30+ yards out requires a perfect save from England's @klbardsley. #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/tWGxZva8bt— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 19, 2019 10' 0-0 Japan instant counter from 30m, pass to Iwabuchi(?) at arc top wide left, early ground cross rolls to 6-top right post behind England's high back line and too far for the attackers, Bardsley dives and catches. 11' 0-0 England are pinned in their own 1/3. Japan lurk with 6 past midfield, congesting all passing lanes. Stokes misses a long pass up wide left. Japan go up their left, lose it out.
14' 0-1 Stanway spins past Sugita's shoulder-lean at circle top mid-left, rides her challenge to 30m mid-left, kicks right outstep ground pass through box top mid-left. White back-cuts Kumagai caught too high and not sprinting, chases to 10m 10-left. Yamashita charges out to 8m, White passes left instep under her left hand, medium roller outpaces Ichise, skips into right bottom pipe. 1141425128082833408 is not a valid tweet id
18' 0-1 Scott shoots from ~arc top mid-right to 1/4 left low, Yamashita dives and double-blocks wide left. 19' 0-1 Stanway shoots to right 90, Yamashita blocks. Ball bounces at 1m 3-right, White(?) fights for a header, Sameshima heads over endline right. 30' 0-1 Yokoyama(?) fk at ~27m, driven to right post waist-high, Bardsley catches with a small bobble, hangs on. 34' 0-1 Walsh verylongball from own 35m circle left drops perfectly over Daly's shoulder 1-v-2 at 30m right post, she chases through box top to 14m right post. Hard right foot shot toward center high, Yamashita palms it up and over with right hand. 35' 0-1 Stanway right ck, cleared to 16m right post. Bright steps forth, shoots right instep across mouth through everybody, wide left low.
41' 0-1 Yokoyama kicks right outstep from arc top, wide right low. HT 0-1. Japan 5(2)-(4)8 shots(sog), 2-5 corners, 1-6 fouls, 6-16 tackles, 17-24 clearances, 47% possession, 80% (169/212) - (209/247) 85% passing. So England are doing more defending ... but they're outpassing Japan Great pass, great finish. 👌👌Ellen White scores her 3rd career #FIFAWWC goal after being played in by Georgia Stanway as England lead at the half. 🔥 pic.twitter.com/RFsrNZGcWy— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 19, 2019
