On the surface it's crazy but if he sets up MLS like Rozell did the NFL in the 60's it's not crazy at all. MLS is growing pretty fast. If it keeps growing like it has it could have 4-6 teams with 40+k attendance in 5-8 years. How many other soccer leagues have that? How many other US leagues have that? Not everything Garber has done is great for the US team and the American player but build a big league he has.

People can have their issues with Garber......................but the league most likely doesn't even exist today without his work in the early 2000s.

MLS not existing and no professional soccer are not the same thing. Personally if all we can have is MLS I am fine with nothing. I cannot get past the stench of single entity and all the teams being owned by that one entity.

I'd probably take any tweets by that guy with a grain of salt.

He isn't really self aware and he really isn't "in the know" with stuff outside the NASL/South Florida Lower Division Soccer.

Interesting. Garber congratulated the u20s and wished the WNT good luck, but only wishes the MLS players good luck at the Gold Cup. I dont see him mention the USMNT in a tweet this year (i am sure someone will correct me if i missed one). With the way things are going, it seems like a good time for this discussion again.

There should be no relationship. It's just another league. That's the healthiest and cleanest way.

that's a tone-deaf tweet at best and obnoxious at worst. FFS - the guy is a board member of the USSF.

Irrespective of who's on the squad, a board member of the USSF cannot just wish luck to part of the USMNT. Even if it's his day job to plug MLS, he has to honor his responsibility to the USSF.

It wasnt just part of out team, but part of most teams in the tournament.

He did mention the usmnt in an tweet after the game started with photos of the fancy MLS stadium.

If it wasn't USMNT specific, that's actually not as bad as I initially thought.

He was talking about all MLS players in the tourament. The article accompanying the tweet covers all teams in the tournament, not just the U.S.

Does the marketing arm of the EPL have any relationship with any of the teams in the league? the whole thing stinks. Those in charge of the USMNT and those in charge of MLS should have no relationship, other than Hi, how are ya.

There obviously is a relationship that MLS greatly benefits from.

Garber didnt mention the USMNT. at least some of Garber's relationship is clear. Garber has openly attacked the coach of the USMNT. He has been apart of bringing its player to MLS at the detriment of the USMNT.

Very few of the 17 MLS player that are on the GC roster are even in the top 30 most talented US eligible players.

I've noticed that any questioning of Berhalters decisions or odd comments by commentators is now being met with accusations of being a ton foil hat, conspiracy theorists. However, arent these the things Don Garber asked for, or wait, demanded?

    https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2014/1...anns-comments-on-mls-are-frustrating-as-hell/

Bottom line, Garber said, was that the time had come for Klinsmann to “embrace the vision” that US Soccer and MLS remain “inextricably linked” in order to grow the game in the US. “We need deep alignment with everyone who is an influencer in the sport,” Garber said. “I not only ask this but I insist that everyone who is paid to work in this sport that they align with the vision… And I don’t think the comments from Klinsmann did this. . . . I believe his comments are at odds with what we collectively believe what we’re trying to achieve together.”

I saw a tweet last week that claimed that Jay Berhalter was a terrible executive and no one at Soccer House liked him and they all feared the guy and he doesn't listen to anyone. "IF" true I'm really hoping he's not picked. At the very least even if none of it is true the appearance of a conflict of interest with his brother being head coach should eliminate him.

So, we are doomed to a future, long term, of toxic and conflicting relations with our professional league and our national team's interest. This will perpetually deter any quality head coach from trying his hand in America. Their ego is big and clashing with some front office guy from a "separate" entity would never work. Hence, the gloom. The Doom and the Gloom. Sry.
