Yep, and they'd arrive in our mailboxes before the 26th, too. And the FO can just dock us 47 cents for postage, leaving $9.53 per card.
I don't care much about the STM gift, but it does really feel like being a season ticket holder just doesn't have much value. It basically gets you tickets below market price for any Saturday games with good weather. In the supporters section at least you can generally get tickets for around $25 to $30 on weekdays and Sundays. There are some other fringe benefits you might get to use once or twice. I guess we also get FAM, but it's a pain to have to get and use the vouchers. It would be really nice if we got priority entrance and priority concession lines like at Nats Park That would actually provide huge value at Audi Field.
Wait, have you been able to use a voucher? I've tried twice and been told that the concession either doesn't take them or doesn't know how to take them. Its happened to me and I've seen other STMs turned away numerous times.
Yeah - that was a weird situation - DCU had a great not-really-part-of-MLS team store. MLS hated that and took over the online store (MLS runs a horrible online store, don't ever use it). Nathan had less and less control for a while. I think the Fanatics take-over came mid-off-season and was a fast process. Nathan still runs the team store, but he went from being a United employee to a Fanatics employee - he said it worked out okay for him; I hope so, he was one of about 3 non-********-ups in the Front Office area. As for Fanatics, my unsolicited advice is to never order online from them. Granted this is based on my one experience of doing so, so relatively small sample size, but .... I ordered a bunch of NASCAR and DCU and USA stuff - it came in a box that was way too big, the box was open (kudos to the UPS guy for not taking something out of it), the DCU pint glass I ordered was only covered with a very flimsy taped bubble-wrap piece, basically a piece of plastic wrap - a miracle it didn't break just rolling around in that big box. The USA scarf I ordered was in a plastic bag, taped shut, not sealed - and had a big chunk torn in it - the order had no return shipping info (or invoice showing what should have been in the box) so I'm just stuck with a torn scarf. To contrast the pint glass, in the same order I also bought a Bubba Wallace/STP pint glass - it came shipped direct form the manufacturer, not from Fanatics - that thing was packed properly in an appropriately-sized box with great full-of-air bubble wrap and plenty of tough paper around it.
The old school guys at the teamstore used to ROCK. I brought in a plain youth green GK jersey ~2 years ago for a Hamid personalization and someone just offered to run downstairs and get a crest and Leidos sponsorship iron on ... for free. Even after the fact, they refused to take any money for it. It cost me more in sodas and carne asada I brought back. I figured beers were a non-starter for them. Now they can't do that kind of stuff. Some other guy, reached out to Chris Hull to get one made for his kid and the answer was a straight now, because they don't even have the stuff to do it because the jersey's come all made up on the front from Adidas or who ever the middle man is. Now there's no point in talking to them about what the fans want, they get what Fanatics sends them. There is no avoiding Fanatics. I've tried. If you look at most online team stores, MLS, NFL, NHL, etc, they all have the same or a very similar interface. I tried ordering NHL gear from NBCSports' online store, it came in a Fanatics box. Its almost a toss up between ordering counterfeit stuff on Amazon vs ordering from Fanatics at this point. I wonder if I can use my gift card on any teams gear or just DCU at Fanatics.
I still can't believe the FO didn't order enough jerseys last year. I remember you couldn't find a home authentic jersey anywhere after August/September time. Fanatics is ok by me, never had any issues and they frequently run 20-25% off sales which usually makes them the best price for fan apparel.
I stumbled across this.. Imagine a club that won a trophy but the ownership still felt like it didn't do enough.
And then the Great Recession bankrupted MacFarlane leaving Chang to tread water for 5 years. There was an arrogance in those days the like of which we will never see again.........
More notes from #DCU training:Pines and Canouse are back in full training. While Odoi-Atsem did not train due to a hip flexor strain.— Emily Olsen (@EmilyTOlsen) June 17, 2019 also, Bill's having some knee issues - goalkeeper Bill Hamid came out to training, passed with a young boy wearing a Messi jersey and then left training. “His knee has been bother him a little bit,” according to Olsen. Third option GK Edwards Jr was absent from training in anticipation of his child’s birth Hopefully Ben spoke better English than she quoted
"The 2008 season was a disappointment...." Agree with the point the poster was making about the club's - and ownership's - attitude and expectation level a decade ago. And yet, a year after this letter the club hired Curt Onalfo as head coach.
So if Hamid is a no go and Edwards is unavailable, will there be an emergency GK like in the NHL? How cool to be a beer league GK sitting on the bench for a USOC game. Sort of like the ghost of G. R. Cannon.
By hiring Onalfo the FO simply was amping up the level of disappointment. They said 2008 level was unacceptable, they didn't say which way the disappointment would go. I sort of look at 2010 - 2013 as maximum disappointment (although the 2012 season was pretty good -- but followed by the Wooden Spoon).
Sweet, thats gotta be my kid, he'd be sitting in the front row with a decent chance that his keeper gear is still in the back of the car... https://t.co/GLbxiJwZeA Gotta wonder if Hamid's knee situation is playing more into his lack of call ups than anything else other than GB's passive aggressive tendencies.
Kind of feel indifferent about this, I think hes a good player just doesn't fit with what we're trying to do. Best of luck to him if he leaves though. On a side note I'm VERY surprised we haven't really heard anything regarding potential signings this summer. Joe Gyau mentioned wanting to play in Audi Field again after the US friendly, he has ties to the area obviously, wouldn't mind for the right price. Both with the Gold Cup and CA going on I would've have expected more talk about summer targets. I'd say center forward (for depth) and center back have to be our two main priorities at this point.
I hope we're going in hard for Andrew Wooten. He's been playing in the B2, his contract was not extended, and he's been scoring lots of goals. According to Brian Sciaretta on Twitter, he's not a DP, either.
We're usually pretty quiet about signings until they happen or are right about to happen so I'm not surprised.
I wish someone could explain what it is we are trying to do. I doubt most of the players on the field can. James
Its nearly all Acosta-Rooney or Rooney Acosta. Last year Stieber contributed well BEFORE Rooney because passing the ball around to everyone was how we played. When Rooney came, he of course was the big target, but all too often everything defaulted to him and Acosta. Stieber thrives in an active passing game, but now he's just stuck out on the field never getting the ball.
Stieber is talented and plays with intelligence. Benny doesn't seem him as a starter in the Rooney-Acosta lineup and seems to prefer Segura as first off the bench. I like Stieber, and he can fill in all across the front line. Acosta has bad days, when he holds the ball until he gets dispossessed and then gets petulant. That's when Stieber should enter, but I think that Acosta would throw a hissy fit and be petulant for weeks.
Just that I think Olsen values the athleticism/motor of guys like Segura over the skill players like Stieber. Not saying I agree with it at all, but as long as Olsen is our coach Stieber will never be a first option.
