If you can't promote out of the B3 you might as well close up shop and become a field hockey club.

Can anyone imagine being a fan of a once semi-storied club who has shat itself into laughable oblivion, and you wake up in the morning and the most interesting thing you can conceive of doing is trolling a Bobby Wood thread?

There's flies in the kitchen I can hear 'em there buzzing
And I ain't done nothing since I woke up today.
How the hell can a person go to work in the morning
And come home in the evening and have nothing to say.

Man, why does Wood seem to have consistent animosity with his clubs?

This isn’t exactly animosity. He is on a terrible contract and has produced nothing on the field for 2 seasons, and a scaled-back HSV needs to figure out what to do with him.

In the article linked above the new sporting director Jonas Boldt extends an olive branch of sorts, saying that Bobby would be a good addition if he can return to his previous form, “but he has to be ready to put in the work.” Boldt also shares that Bayer Leverkusen tossed around ideas of signing Wood during his tenure there. Of course, this probably serves as positive spin in the plausible event where the club can’t find a destination for Bobby this summer, but ultimately it comes down to whether Hecking has a use for him.

He may not be consistent at the Bundesliga level, but he's got 13 goals/5 assists in 45 caps (1287 mins) for the NT. Quite a few he didn't start. He's got goals against Mexico (2), Netherlands, Germany (both scored abroad), 3 goals in the last Hex.

You crossed up your numbers a little bit.

He has 13 goals and 5 assists in all of his US appearances, yes. But that 1,287 minute number is only friendlies. He has 2,650 minutes on-field for the national team.

@mschofield would know better, but I think his relationship with Union was pretty good all the way around.

It might be when he produces well, clubs like him and he likes them, and when he's underperforming, the relationship deteriorates and he doesn't handle it as well as some... but I'm just guessing.

Woody and Buzz Lightyear are two of the highest paid players on the squad. they both had disappointing loan spell.

I don't see how Hamburg can afford either so I expect that one or both are gone before the season starts.

Let's be honest: no one is going to pay HSV enough, nor offer Bobby a comparable salary. Not even MLS. So they're stuck with him.

The best that can do is play him as much as they can, so far they don't risk going to 3.Liga, and use him to sell watches.

That would be my expectation, although every euro of his salary someone else pays is a euro they don't have to, but he's worth the expense if he helps them go back up - and if you lend Bobby, you still need to pay a striker.

My bet is he stays, and, if his knees aren't shot, has a decent season.

He was reported as "ill" on FlashScore for weeks. Not injured, but "ill" --it could mean anything, the flu or clinical depression.
