Wow, now we even have match threads one day in advance!

Also, I hate the fact that, from tomorrow on, the group games will be at the same time, so I would have to choose one or to zap from one to the other! :x3::x3::x3:

I turned to South Africa-Germany just to watch the goal: looks frankly too much easy for Germany. Is this a way to defend a CK at the World Cup stage?

Happy that I chose to wacth China-Spain: looks much more interesting. :coffee:

It would be funny if Germany didn't score any more and this one finished 1-0, too. LOL.

Sadly have classes at uni and cannot watch today .

South Africa: Dlamini for Swart; Vilakazi for Holweni; Ndimeni for DM Mbane (and Jane => DM); Mthandi for Kgatlana(!). I guess Kgatlana is the super-sub.

Germany: LW Bühl for RB Hendrich (and Schweers => LB, Gwinn => RB); Magull for Oberdorf, Leupolz for Goeßling.

03' 0-0 Magull fk at 13m wide left to 6m left post, Däbritz slide-pokes but misses(?), Popp arrives from and volleys soft left instep low to 1/4 left, GK collects.

14' 0-1 Schweers left ck, severe inswing to 5m 1/4 left. Biyana misjudges the movement, leaves a 1m lateral gap from Leupolz standing motionless thereat, simple step-and-twist header into back left low. That much swerve on a ck almost counts as a trick play by itself

Leupolz's 4" height advantage is a big problem for Biyana on free headers -- that's a poor match-up even if she had proper position.

Horrendous defending from South Africa. I hope we don't see a rout, but from how things are going I suppose a 5-0/6-0 shouldn't be out of the realm of possible.

17' 0-1 Hegering passes long to Schweers at 33m wide left. Schweers touches to 27m wide left, crosses to 15m arc left -- meanwhile, Däbritz is-winning her jog through arc top mid-left, 1 step ahead of RW Mthandi also jogging. Makhabane(?) blocks ball down, right to Magull's feet, Magull taps diagonal pass to Däbritz at 8m 8-left. Däbritz shoots one-touch left instep to 1/4 left, Dlamini blocks ball down to 6-top center. Popp is right there, reflex half-volley (off her left shin) blazes just over crossbar center.

29' 0-2 Hegering kicks upfield to Schweers at 23m wide left. Simple cross inswings to 9m 1/4 left, nobody is that far forward. Dlamini dives out but takes the wrong angle, beaten by the inswing -- she dives centerward, orthogonal to her momentum, double-blocks but does not catch. LB Vilakazi is caught ball-watching and slowing down at 18m 6-right, Däbritz accelerates and front-cuts her on the inside through arc right. Ball trickles to 11m right post, Däbritz shoots one-touch left instep past Dlamini diving back to 6-top, into 1/4 right back low. When Germany go on these speed attacks, South Africa's lack of full-field awareness or discipline is killing them, as the off-ball defenders who aren't in the play are suddenly not in the play because their marks just outran them.

Missed German's third-goal (was watching the snooze-fest that China-Spain is ): how was it?

Yes, thank you: watched it in highlights at HT.

I confirm that this match looks like it should end 5 or 6 to nil. :coffee:

40' 0-3 Däbritz(?) counters between 2 lines to 33m mid-right, passes to Gwinn overlapping unmarked to 10m wide right. Meanwhile (I hear cellos :coffee:), Popp trails Ramalepe through arc left, lurks behind her left shoulder. Gwinn crosses to 8m 1/4 left, Ramalepe jumps decently but Popp simply:
    [x] 1.reads the flight better,
[x] 2.front-cuts to the ball past a stationary (or vertically-jumping) defender,
    [x] 3.outheights Ramalepe by about 5",
and heads down past goalline 1/3 right, into 1/4 right back. It's not entirely Ramalepe's fault; in the air she's just not in Popp's class.

    HT 0-3. Early 2H stats: South Africa 2(0)-(6!)11 shots(sog), 0-3 corners, 0-3 offsides, 4-6 fouls, 24-9 clearances, 42% possession.

53' 0-3 Ramalepe challenges Huth at 10m box left, steps on her left foot, then body-bumps her and both go down. Foul, yellow card on Ramalepe.

54' 0-3 Yellow card on Magull.

56' 0-3 Vilakazi fouls Doorsoun, and stays down injured. VAR check? Yellow card on Vilakazi.

58' 0-4 Simon fk at 35m mid-right, high inswing to 8m left post. Hegering has inside position on Matlou and a 1/2 step lead past Ramalepe, dive-heads across mouth, Dlamini dives left and pushes it off right post -- meanwhile, Magull runs past Biyana up centerline, is alone through 6-top center. Ball spins along goalline to 1/3 right, past Van Wyk going to right post. Magull arrives first, sweeps ball over line with Dlamini still down.

Germany in ruthless mode is a tough match-up. South Africa's defenders don't see runs this aggressive in their league, and nothing prepares them to match the intensity.

59' 0-4 Germany subs in (2 of 3) #16 Linda Dallman for #9 Svenja Huth.
66' 0-4 Germany subs in (3 of 3) #7 Lea Schüller for #19 Klara Bühl.

71' 0-4 Van Wyk shoots from 33m 1/4 right, just over Schult's fingertips and crossbar 1/3 left.

73' 0-4 Schüller crosses from box right to 6-top left post, Däbritz half-volley, Dlamini slides out and blocks off her chest, to 13m 1/3 left, chases the rebound and falls on it.

74' 0-4 Off that restart(?), Makhabane through-ball springs Kgatlana 3m+ ahead of the line through 27m center, to 15m 1/3 left as Schult comes out to 12m. Kgatlana shoots right foottop rising toward 1/3 right, but Schult is so close that there's no angle, she blocks at her left shoulder, away through arc right.
