You can't distinguish between what Mal did and what the team did? Boy, you're dumb.

Ya, to me, the competency of the opponent matters. The whole country has 1,000 female soccer players. This should be a bigger mismatch than Alabama vs. Orange Coast College in soccer. If Bama was celebrating like that against a JC, people would be howling with laughter. Even if it was in some kind of championship.

Add in the international aspect, and they're only there b/c Fifa is trying to "grow the game." That's what the competence of the opponent has to do with it.

The fact that you can't distinguish between the way Mal celebrated her goal and the way the team celebrated her goal .... you've got to be being intentionally dense. No one is that stupid.

Huh? We won the last cup. Haven't you been paying attention?

The Swedes beat us in the Olympics, but that was not on PK's.

And, you're equating a tight match between us and the Swedes (whatever the hell match you're talking about) and a 13-0 blowout of a country with 1000 players?

Chile gave them a hell of a game. I'm sure they were quite relieved. I don't begrudge them their celebration. (I didn't see it - my recording ran out b/c of the weather delay, so I don't know specifically what they did).

The one good thing to come of this, exposing Canadian "we're better than you" jingoism.

Woman who was on the field when Tancredi stepped on Lloyd's head is "disgusted" by celebrations. Not taunting, celebrations.

During the same week when Raptors fans roared in delight at their opponent getting injured. (Canadians are trying to down play it as "a few idiots." BS. Funniest thing was there was a sports commentator from Canada, saying "they thought it was just a calf strain, they didn't know it was his achilles. Anyone would cheer their opponent getting injured and missing the rest of a game." He was defending it! Oh, Canadians, you're so hypocritical. Here's the clip. Listen to the roar at about :35. "A few idiots." Ya, like 20,000 idiots.)

People keep telling you, but you aren’t getting that nobody gives a crap how many registered players a country has. They are in the World Cup. That makes them World Cup competition.

And the Swedes choreographed that little dance. They do it every time they beat somebody. It’s not like they are just overcome with scoring a goal..

Give it up. Nobody cares about your outrage that the US celebrated. Even the Thais weren’t concerned.

Mannnnnnn, you guys have been baiting and baiting me to unleash my wrath.
I was hoping that we could keep this a MT free zone but here we are. There are those who feel that potentially hurting someone’s feelings is much worse than physical felony assault which occurred at Old Trafford. Stepped on my Czech *ss. Deliberately STOMPED with foresight, aggression and malice is the only accurate depiction of the event in Manchester.
Imagine if that happened to Messi the Messiah....the perp would still be incarcerated (and serving a lifetime ban from Futbol.

Actually I think that a lot, maybe even most, of the outrage comes from simple jealousy. Whatever team many of the people spouting such outrage are supporting are unable to put a beatdown on any team they play like the one the US put on Thailand so they grasp on any excuse they can to demean the US Women's performance.

That says nothing one way or the other about the US players but it does say a lot about the detractors.

Hey now, I played for Orange Coast College - and Alabama doesn't even have a soccer team, so I think we'd win in soccer. :)

(American football game, though? Then you'd have a point!)

Once again, (and I'll make it simpler this time for the hard-of-thinking) can you provide a link to a video of this choreographed dance that you accuse our bench of performing? Because if you can't, I'll assume you were just hallucinating about it.

Thanks for finding this good example of class in sports.
Thai players kept celebrations down to a minimum on each of its 11 goals against Cambodia, in that 2018 AFF qualifier: quick high-fives and done.

Like USWNT at 2019 WWC, Thai players at 2018 AFFQ knew they needed to run up the score in group stage for 1st place qualification. Just look at the blowout scores in that 2018 AFFQ group.

When routing a rival at a competitive level, you have the opportunity of displaying class/empathy for fellow athletes.

A player may choose to celebrate or not.
In my experience, I recall more those who chose modesty out of respect/empathy for a fellow athlete.
Great athletes recognize when modesty is important.

France's 2nd goal against Uruguay at Rusia 2018 WC QF is a good example: Griezmann did not celebrate his goal out of respect to Uruguayan players. Griezmann later told that his career had improved thanks to advice from an Uruguayan athlete. He felt it would have been cheap to celebrate a goal where the Uruguayan keeper made a horrible mistake.

Some beauty of sport lies in such stories of empathy for the vanquished.

Go Pirates! I went to OCC for a year, w/ some summer school mixed in. Played pick up on that field in the track for years. There were many nights when the thermometer at the fair grounds said it was on the 40's on my way to go play p/u.

Anyone else notice Lloyd's "dainty clap" during her goal celebration against Chile yesterday? Perfect.

I actually didn't know she did it at first, mainly because I was high-fiving probably 50 people at the watch party and because I think it was shown for a second or two on the cameras when I re-watched the broadcast later on that night.

That was pretty funny that they choreographed it.

The funniest thing at that bar I was at was people left before the match ended because they were "disappointed" it was just going to be a 3-0 affair instead of a 13-0 thrashing they thoroughly enjoyed last week.

Took several great photography classes at OCC. Always enjoyed its presence in the community. And, there were a lot of good-looking surfer types around. Ah, youth . . .

This is very simple. There is nothing wrong with scoring 20 goals. However, after a certain point, be tempered in your celebrations when you know your competitor is absolutely inferior. It would be different if the USA was beating Germany or France. In this case, it was obvious that Thailand was finished after the 5th goal. They could have just possessed the ball and still ended up scoring more.

I am just shocked by the silence from the score 13 goals and celebrate each of them like the first crowd after the chile match

the us rotated in 7 players and other then carli lloyd playing like the most selfish player I've ever seen the rest of the team the foot off the gas.

I thought they had to run it up and go hard for 90 minutes out of respect? they didn't do that this match they rotated players and took it easy on Chile it was so disrespectful to the sport, chile and female athletes across the world.

do to this I am calling for a world wide boycott of us women's soccer this level of disrespect can not go unpunished.

I kinda think this over celebration dislike has more to do with being a professional player and representing the USA in this tournament . Also , Scoring in extra time of a 12-0 score line really looks like rubbing it in , even if that wasn’t the intent .
