Or maybe CQ is trying to bring Duvan along at the right place so he doesn't feel the lonely mega pressure of being asked to play at 9 replacing a legend...

A lot of us here watched both JPA and then Falcao go through that. I love that Duvan got this confidence booster off the bench. Id be surprised if he doesn't now start vs. Qatar to further build his confidence.

With Falcao being captain. I feel more likely both start then Zapata Instantly benching Falcao

One thing we need to worry about is we lost a striker. Muriel is out the rest of the cup. Falcao and Zapata both have yellows. Don’t want to go into the Paraguay game with just Roger.

The only criticism I have is that he took off his shirt.
Yes, it was the heat of the moment and basically the "clincher" against Argentina but still. It was a dumb yellow.

When you got a body to show off, it is an instinct to take off your shirt at every chance lol

Back to his actual play on the field...
...he is a solid target man who can do so many things. It is still tough to see him starting over Falcao in this tournament. Come this Fall though it may be the time to transition him.

Bruh. I'm around the same height as Duvan but nowhere near as ripped nor with a body fat as low as him. I do look imposing tho.

He has what it takes to be a starter but I agree that it's paso a paso. A goal against Argentina is exactly what he needed.

I'm not sure if carbs make you fat. I've had some health problems these past 18 months and I couldn't eat nothing but rice and some vegetables. No fat at all. My weight dropped inmidiately from 70kg to 50kg. I ate rice (and some bread too) five or six times a day, so I ate quite a lot. Now I'm better and when I added fat back on the menu I gained my weight back in a very short time. Fat makes you fat in my experience.

Sugar makes you fat. It triggers high insuline levels which actually triggers the accumulation of fat.

Sugar does indeed make you fat. I get hooked on it very easily, so I got experience in that too. And if I eat a lot of sugar (for a week or more) I get horrible withdrawal symptoms when I quit.

Of course. Sugar is highly addictive. That's why even salty products have sugar on it. Your best bet is to stop eating It as much as possible and replace It with a high protein, high fat and healthy carbs diet.

My guy is that CQ does not want to come in and bench Falcao and piss people off (as is evidenced by this forum) but he's gonna give Falcao the starts at the beginning then let it play out so that if he does start Duvan the evidence is out there for all to see.

We just miss out on so many chances unfortunately with Falcao, imagine that goal Duvan scored that chance would never happen if Falcao was in even when he's fresh because he'd likely lose the ball in midfield when Duvan held off 2 defenders then broke away from all 3, the ball doesn't even get out of our half if that was Falcao 75% of the time. So many plays don't materialize because he's limited physically, and the defense has to play deeper against Duvan and give our team much more space, against Falcao they can just blitz him and push us back because he doesn't have the ability to break away and his distribution isn't amazing if he does get on the ball with runners past him.

Yea but Falcao is a fking serial killer!!!

If we can find a way for both to play that doesn’t fk Duvan over let’s find it.

Falcao is slower, shorter, weaker and older...... but he gets shit done. Rather see Falcao in the Muriel/Roger role. I get why they don’t put him there because he is slow but both Duvan and Falcao being on the field at the same time could free up James from being marked or Uribe or when Quintero comes back. Just makes us more dangerous

The reason why I wasn't excited about replacing Falcao with Duvan was that Duvan hadn't shown anything in the NT. I'm not talking about goals here. His overall performance was very inconsistent.

The situation is now very different, he had a supreb season with his club - which wasn't the case before this season -and for the first time he has shown he can transform his club level to the NT. If the goal against Argentina was so important that it was worth a yellow card, it means he is dealing with tons of pressure. Were we in a situation where we needed to rush things and take the risk of destroying his confidence? Right now things are looking good but it wasn't the case earlier. Right now Duvan is delivering the evidence I was looking for.

To be more precise here I'm talking about Duvan being a starter.

    Fair points.

I felt Duvan delivered in the two WCQ appearances he had during the last cycle (Bolivia and Peru). In the friendlies, his performances were underwhelming and even against Panama he looked clumsy.

Against Argentina when it really mattered, he cranked up the volume and made his presence felt big time. I said this yesterday, but I just have not been a fan of the lone striker formation for quite some time.

We couldn’t make it work with Bacca; Falcao in the lone spot was a mixed bag but more on the ineffective side and with Duvan’s hold up ability and physical presence, I think someone like Falcao can still reap the benefits.

Hence my question earlier about what CQ does not like about using 2 strikers. I’m sure he’s thought of it or tested it out in training sessions. If us “keyboard coaches” have thought of it, CQ must have as well, right?

You can't replace Falcao with one of those guys, if we want to go out and do what we did we need to have the ability to break out and we need players wide who can defend and create from wide areas. The system works because when James switches that ball and you have Roger 1v1 its a situation he can exploit, and it causes the defense to respect and sit back deeper because of our transitions, all the while Roger still maintains defensive help, Duvan wide is a waste and he's not as comfortable there and we still have the problem of Falcao fighting against CB's to win balls, Falcao out wide is non starter. I don't think CQ will move from the 4-3-3 and he shouldn't so it seems likely that its one or the other, and it should be Duvan.

We don't know for sure how Duvan would have played if he had started against Argentina. Maybe he would have played better than Falcao but there is a big chance the pressure could have ruined his game. It's a different thing to enter as a sub. When you have pressure you get frustrated with every error you make. Small mistakes or errors (if my english was better I would use a better word) don't have that effect on Falcao. On a good day Duvan can do things Falcao can't do, we all know that.

There is no doubt wether CQ has thought about playing a 2 striker format or not. But the two striker system makes you sacrifice one midfielder. It also makes you change all the tactics. Pekerman switched to the lone striker even when it looked horrible in the beginning. There must have been a big reason he did that change. We can only guess what CQ's reason is for the lone striker system, but there sure is one.
