@falvo and I tried to tell you that building anything substantial in Italy was a decades long task

I’ve said all along, I’ll believe it when I see it. It may happen if there is another Tangentopoli scandal. I hear Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi was implicated last week.

    Meanwhile......anni e secoli passano....

It would've been cheaper and faster to build another Roma somewhere and put the stadium there.

The 1mil.$ question is why aren't the Roma supporters on the streets blocking the city every other day for a year already? They seem to be quite good at chanting non-sense in the stadium every week, how about doing the same amount of changing where it would actually clog the traffic/tourism and make that bureaucracy hurt a bit?

This is where JP lack of Italian bureaucracy hurts. I said years ago he should have built it in a town outside of Rome. I know the mayor of Fiumicino said he'd get it approved in a year if Pallotta put it there.

In those smaller towns; less bureaucrats so less wheels to grease. It would be a coup for those small town mayors and a great source of pride (which is almost as important as the $ there. Almost guaranteed re-election for bringing that many jobs to their towns.

You just can't have nice things if you are a Roma fan

You dont know italians very well do you ? They will cry about something for years and years and years and then when someone has enough guts to do something about a situation all those crying voices for some sort of change stop and becomes "che possiamo fare?"(what can we do).

In qualsiasi cittá/nazione europea sarebbe normale amministrazione.

This is Italy. A comment a Napoli fan made about the “renovation” going on with the Stadio San Paolo.

I just find it so hard to believe the project can move. You need to purchase the land, you need new designs, new engineering and environmental studies. New public transportation studies. New financing. You're basically starting from scratch. And would there even be any guarantee you wouldn't run into the same roadblocks? Is it that Fiumicino is under a different jurisdiction making it easier to approve?

It's a different city. I'm not sure this would go anywhere to be honest, mostly because of the cost of things you pointed out. Having to pay for all those studies again might be expensive.

As for transportation etc, who knows about that, I mean Roma were so damn lucky JP was willing to pay for that, I've never heard of a club paying for that sort of thing.

I don't believe Roma have bought the land yet (could be wrong) so they have nothing to lose there and if they don't have to pay for transportation that may make up for the extra costs of the studies.

All that said, my guess is this is a ploy to light a fire under the city. I have to say I half hope this does work out and the bureaucrats in Rome get shafted because of it.

It would be much easier to get approval in Fiumincino since they have less complex protectionary city laws regarding new buildings, especially in the areas where there are mainly new development projects (which is certainly where a stadium would be proposed).

However, like you say, it would be starting from scratch in many ways even if Fiumincino's desire to get the stadium would fast track the process. You have to wonder if the same investors would be interested since getting such prime Roma real estate had to be a huge incentive.

The main reason to not do it in the first place is the same as the reason in the US most franchises much prefer a "downtown" location to a stadium far out in the periphery -- in addition to value of the real estate in Rome for investors.

The talks with Fiuminicino likely have the aspect of a "bluff" Java mentions as well -- to gain a negotiating chip with the city of Rome.

I guess the added benefit of moving the stadium to Fiumincino could be the ability to go to plans that are more similar to the original blueprints (I believe we had to remove a certain percentage of buildings and include a lot more greenery).

Assuming this isn't a bluff, and is fast-tracked... How long could the process take?

I'm not sure the investment group would care about those high rises in the original plan if they're not in Roma proper.

If they completely changed gears now and are able to fast track it to some degree, I imagine it would still take 3 more years.

So after Totti's blowup yesterday, is there any new news on the stadium front?

Raggi: It's possible. Sensi is financing it and Totti is building it. As in labor-wise.

If people are wondering why is Pallotta staying in Boston instead of Roma - it's because the Boston's mayor signs Jimmy's building permissions in 3:00 AM in the morning if he has to, just to be able to publicly brag about bringing in fresh money to the town in 6:00 AM in the morning. That's what self-serving smart people do.

If we are owned by Qatar our stadium would be ready the next day.
Under this ownership, I wouldnt dream about a stadium or trophies. They will deliver us more and more pain.
