Playing for NYRB since 16. Life wrapped around getting to practice and games in academy followed by 2 seasons in MLS w RB's. Straight into BL1, what 4 months. Wins starting job and thriving as a DM. USMNT, one game in some crazy idea of the. coach and done. Thanks, coach. I hope he can get back before preseason w RBL.

6-8 weeks implies surgery. These young guns (Adams/Puli/McKennie) bodies are taking a pretty hefty beating so early in their careers. Does seem like these US kids have more injury issues?

No we just have far less top-end prospects than the top countries so any injury is magnified.

IMO he was brought a bit too early to play the Pokal, and that's why now he has this extended leave. Let's hope he recovers 100%.

There is a bit of evidence now to support this. Sucks big time for the US team.

Question for those in the know, to what extent is this one of those injuries players get and folks end up saying "and he was never the same again"?

Hard to say definitively because we don’t know the exact injury. It was reported as an adductor strain but adductor strains rarely require surgery, and it sounds like w/the 6-8 week recovery timetable that’s been rumored, he’s having some type of surgery. I’d guess it’s a sports hernia (aka a groin hernia) which he should be able to fully recover from, though he’ll probably have some pain/soreness through the early part of their season.

Nowhere near as serious in the short or long term as a knee or Achilles injury.

not a doctor (obviously haha) but haven't ever heard of muscular injuries leading to a "he was never the same again" situation...its the tendons and cartilage that does that....

To the extent Adam does not become Pirlo, I, for sure, will point to this injury as the derailing moment.

It would be weird if he did become Pirlo because he is a defense first type of player.

He showed some passing skills I didnt know he had this season, though certainly not on a Pirlo level.

I said that the day of the Pokal final. It was obvious to me that he didn't look fit.

Thought it was just me, but yeah he looked..heavy for lack of a better term. Adams when he is healthy is so graceful and light on his feet, he looks like a damn gazelle but in that game he was a touch off, that spring wasn’t there.

He's nothing like Pirlo. Pirlo didn't play defense, but was a passing visionary.

Adams is world class at pressing and winning the ball, and he can also thread a nice one through occasionally. But he's a very different player built on his motor and tackling ability. And he can't pass like Pirlo.

Nobody is saying he's like Pirlo. This started with freisland joking.

Which makes sense since he had only played 60 mins before the Pokal

Dude, it was a quip, a riff, a light-handed joke - about how I will blame this injury if he doesn't eventually turn out to be a soccer legend on the level of a legendary midfielder... I could have used Pele, I could have used Gaza, Ronaldo, Chris Freakin' Armas... (ok, I'm kidding there. Don't @ me...) I picked Pirlo because they occupy a similar space on the field and I like Pirlo and it made me happy...

    Oh my.

I told people here not to expect him until the Pokal final and that was a maybe. But our local experts were certain he'd be ready for the last league fixture.

Guess the club also did, and also were wrong.

    Ah well.

DM is a position that requires experience. That a 20-year old Yank is among the best in the BuLi is just amazing.

Also interesting that a German sports rag does not rank a single player as world class in the entire German league. It looked like their offensive mid-field rankings also had no one listed as world class.

The standards in the traditional soccer world powers are insane.
