So, Weah would be the second Yank to play for Lille after Maki Tall, right?

Im not so sure I like the move. Lille was runner up and will only want to try and challenge PSG more. I think they are selling off a major attacking player in Pepe.

Except for Rene and Fonti they are young. It just depends on where they see Weah. Both Rene and Fonti are getting older 32 and 29 respectively and play Center Forward. Where as their wings are very young like 19-22 young. Bamba and Ikone are very nice prospect players who are wings who are in their teens and have a lot of time on first team.

Let us pray, if this move happens, that it is not "Lille Shop of Horrors: Tim Weah@LOSC"

This thread title idea doesn’t even mention Weah so its not very good.

For all you old-timers, looks like Galtier was an ass. coach at Bastia when our friend Greg Vanney was playing there. Looks like he left Sochaux before Davies got there, however.

Galtier is an excellent coach. He did a great job at Saint-Etienne and he is doing a great job at Lille.

as noted its a good bit of money for lille to spend, i doubt this is a flyer on the bench sort of buy (if true, obviously).

positionally no coach other than tab has played him centrally. american pundits (and managers) are the only ones who see him (or pulisic, for that matter) as central players. im not predicting the future, but until a club manager decides hes a st im going to assume hes a winger. or being bought as a winger, in this case.

True, but for my money the real cause for optimism is that the deal is for five years. That kind of deal is for a 20-year-old who needs one year of refining his game, followed by two years of showing his actual - not potential - ability before selling him to England for a handsome profit.

Ten million and a five-year deal is a lot for a guy who will be on the bench much, even next season. If he is, they'll expect him to be the Alcacer impact sub while he develops into the starter down.

If we can slip a Scarface reference into someone's thread title and we don't, what are we even doing here?

while not Lille specific, this is excellent for a future Weah thread. maybe when he becomes USMNT coach in 20 years?

How did he make that? I'd argue Josh Sargent should have done so.

I had to look up the "Golden Boy Award" myself because I'd never heard of it. It's based on the calendar year performance of players under 21, playing on teams in 1st divisions in Europe. Sargent doesn't qualify (Adams wouldn't either, since he didn't play in Europe until 2019). Surprised, though, that Pulisic didn't make the list.
