Don't worry. Our fearless leaders at USSF will find a way to torpedo that, too.

I don't know why, but it seems to me that Weah has a pretty indomitable spirit and probably won't allow a mickey mouse operation like USSF to have any impact on his career. Even if they choose to not call him in or call him in and not play him, I don't think that will have one ounce of an impact on his self-worth.

He better start tonight. One of our better players vs Colombia, needs playing time...make too much sense. Clearly Sarachan sits him..

I'd been hoping for mid-table France for him. (or mid-table Ligue 1 Uber Eats to be exact) so not a bad move when you consider Lille was one point above relegation before finishing second this season.

Strasbourg would be more ideal, though that's only because I have a trip coming up there in a year or so.

That would be a great move for him, hope it happens. And if they're paying a decent amount for a young player, he's highly likely to get lots of good chances to get on the field. And personally, I"d rather see a team invest in hm and own him outright than always out on loan looking back over his shoulder.

...a problem with too many of our young guys, but that's the modern game I guess. Just seems like our players perform better when they're settled somewhere permanently. That "owned by a big club but not in their plans" phase just seems to chew up and spit out players.

Really happy for Weah if this move happens.

Lille is a great spot. Pepe and some of the other young players will likely move this summer or next. Means Weah will prob get some time this year and build into a larger role in the next year or two. They also look to move their young players so he will get a chance to play. He also won’t walk into the 11 or even 18. He will have to earn his spot which is good as well as less pressure to not be a big signing for a small club.

Well Weah and his camp have a better feel for the international soccer landscape than most American players.

The decisions about what to do, where to move to, what terms to accept, etc are perhaps more important than what happens on the field, imo.

Hard to blame them, but too many American players are just happy that any team is interested and jump to accept unfavorable or less than ideal situations far too easily.

Though the giant wads of cash that these clubs can wave over a player like Miazga or Steffen compared to their MLS salaries also plays a role. And you can't really fault the kids who take them. An athlete's career can end at any time.

It looks like Tim made the right call going to the U20. Time for the youngster to get the big check and the responsibility that goes with.

Part of the issue is clubs that they should be going to can’t afford to spend on them what the MLS wants. So they go to clubs that can but might not be the best fit. But agreed salary packages will also play a large role... look at Jozy leaving AZ to Sunderland. Both probably played a large role.

Yeah, exactly. It's easy for me to say "this will be bad for your development. don't take that money" as I sit behind the desk at my own job. I don't have to worry about what I'm doing with my life if I snap my ACL, especially for a kid who probably deferred or gave up on a college education to get that contract offer.

Theoretically love it. Seems like a good team with ambitions, headed to the Champions League this year, doesn't fit into my twin boxes of hell 1.) A Megaclub that will never start you (see Chelsea, Man City, Bayern Munich etc) or 2.) a total dumpster fire w/none of the assets necessary to bring out the best of your game (see Sunderland, Hamburg etc). Very happy for him, hoping he becomes a part of the rotation, and sees double digit or close to it starts and plenty of minutes.

The youth of a lot of our players surprises me just as much as seeing how old so many of our former pool has gotten (Bedoya, Besler, etc). Miazga is only 23 too.

Then I'm asking myself "WHY IS NO ONE IN THE MIDDLE OF THOSE TWO EXTREMES!?"

    Is there nobody useful?

Agudelo,Rowe, Zimmerman are all prime aged guys who could be in the team.

Yeah, this is always a tough one. Fans want them to choose the best development path, players want the cash that Emirati oil/Russian oligarch money can provide. That's like someone telling me "hey, go work for this job that pays 50% less, but you'll get some better experience, i promise!!!". ermmm, no thx.

there's always going to be a bit of the unknown involved in any move....look at weah's move to celtic and how drastically things changed when rogers left. no way to predict that....

I think it is a bit oversimplistic to say it is money vs development when looking at moves, though....I think fans are right to want players not to make moves that jeopardize long-term growth of a player....the best development path is often the best for long-term money. The best short-term money is often not the best for long-term development. Seems this move is right in the sweet spot - all boxes seem to be checked....which is often difficult to arrange for a player

I think we may need to do like other Concacaf teams and pick squads to win and worry less about club performance.

"Suck" is relative. In the games against decent NTs most of them will.
