Dahlkemper for Sauerbrunn: precautionary for a minor quad twinge. Ertz at LCB!

Welp, we've got our triangle of not-speed in Rapinoe-Horan-Heath :D And our not-really-fullbacks Dunn and O'Hara. Exactly as expected

Lavelle starts her 1st WWC :notworthy:
I must type my pbp in the USA forum thread.

Technically, unless Ellis really was thinking of dropping Dahlkemper out of the blue, more like Mewis (or Horan maybe) for Sauerbrunn in my opinion, which leads to Ertz at LCB.

USA native Miranda Nild starts as lone striker! What a whirlwind journey she's had in the last couple of years.

I like the US lineup. Sam Mewis has earned a start. Ertz in the backline gives the U.S. a bit more offense than we have with Sauerbrunn there.

I'm anxious to see how the Thai-American striker does for Thailand.

Lol, I guess most of the discussions will happen on the US boards and I expect sound of crickets here... :p

Or maybe, a lot of non-US fans will find this thread useful to avoid endless technical/tactical discussion among US fans.

For my part, I'll just sing some old Srang Thai song... :whistling:

I am aware that Miranda Nild is seen by some as the next big thing, but I would have preferred to see Taneekarn Dangda as the lonely striker.

    12' 1-0 O'Hara to Morgan
1138525588761829378 is not a valid tweet id

20' 2-0 O'Hara longball to Morgan's chest, into Lavelle's stride to arc top left, hard shot skips past Chor Charoenying into back left low.

Anyone else feel Thailand’s keeper was just the last one to get her knee down when the captain said “go”?

“Welp, sorry, you’re last. You’re in goal today”

2-0 at 20'. Anyone has the feeling that we could be in for the first really lopsided score of this World Cup? Something alike 8-0 or such?

Thai's goalkeeping is terrible and everything they seem to be able to do with the ball, when they get it, is kicking it randomly as far away as they can...

32' 3-0 Heath fk, scripted play: ground pass inside the wall, off Mewis's legs at 4m 1/4 left, to 6-top 1/3 left, Horan blasts in.

Call me biased, but I hope this is not how VAR is used in an actually competitive match for the US. Horan jumps into the Thai player? Yeah, sure; I'll buy that.

It'll totally be lopsided, i think most people saw that....i dont mind the refs letting stuff slide to try and keep it balanced, but they need to start getting a little more assertive to prevent injury

    Side note:
This game is getting me extremely pissed off about all those BS calls against South Africa in South Africa/Spain match with the current reffing

No surprises. Match going about as expected. Now, pull Morgan and/or Rapinoe and/or Heath out and go with a new set of forwards. Press, Pugh, and Lloyd.

And have every center midfielder (the position that often/generally covers the most distance) go the full 90?

Edit: I suppose you do use "and/or". So, maybe nevermind. I do think O'Hara will come off, and possibly Lavelle. If that's the case, that leaves one of Morgan, Rapinoe, and Heath to be substituted. Of course, I could be completely wrong.

Dear Lord, from 3-0 to 6-0 in under five minutes? It's a slaughter now.

    =edit=
    And, as I type, 7-0

...I wonder what the fastest 4 goals in WWC history is...

Ok, goal differential is going to be way higher than any other contender. Give Thai a break now.

They also should have Thailand represent their nation in kit colors that actually make sense. WTH is powder blue.

Maybe - Sweden might be able to put several on Thailand as well.

Why didn't Jill sub out Rapinoe to give her some rest?

doubtful, they play a bit too conservatively like the mens team.
