20' 2-0 O'Hara long pass from circle back to Morgan coming back to 30m arc left. Morgan taps left into Lavelle's stride, Lavelle dribbles to arc top left, shoots hard left foot to left post low. Chor Charoenying dives and gets a touch, ball skips just inside left post. .@roselavelle’s day so far: first World Cup game, first World Cup start and first World Cup goal.Do you even have to ask? Attacking-third touches in the first 15 minutes…🇺🇸 #USWNT: 65🇹🇭 Thailand: 0— Paul Carr (@PaulCarr) June 11, 2019 D@mn. I don't think we were the only ones ready for this game.
23' 2-0 Mewis receives at 15m 7-left, drives down 7-left past #21 Sung-Ngoen, gets tugged back by her right arm, her feet slide out and she falls flat on back. No call, delay for VAR check ... no call, goal kick given.
Lucky break for Thailand on no PK after VR review. Looked to me like Mewis was pulled down from behind - people don't fall that way on their own while running forward. But not every camera angle showed the arm pull that probably brought her down.
The Thai defender on the left is doing EVERYTHING she can against Heath and O’Hara. Hope someone makes a gif of Tobin breaking that other defenders ankles.
Anyone else feel Thailand’s keeper was just the last one to get her knee down when the captain said “go”? “Welp, sorry, you’re last. You’re in goal today”
32' 3-0 USA fk at 17m mid-right, Rapinoe decoys, Heath snipes left instep ground pass to 4m 1/4 left. Ball skips over Morgan's right foot top, hits Mewis's legs facing away, rebounds to 6-top 1/3 left. Horan poaches thereat, blasts into 1/3 left back high hard. Well, I don't think Mewis was designed as a ball-stopper, but it worked out 1138530902902837248 is not a valid tweet id Fan cams are awesome Le 3eme but des USA #USATHA pic.twitter.com/N0DNIjcGv7— S D (@sd_reims51) June 11, 2019 35' 3-0 Thailand subs in (1 of 3) #6 Pikal Khueanpet for #20 Wilaiporn Boothduang.
Not sure that revealed anything - aim toward far post and have players run toward that spot? Effective, but not blowing any future surprise.
That pretty much kills the confidence that Thailand was building from their short period of good play.
I hope no-one will take offense, guys, but from the perspective of a neutral fan like me this is the less interesting match seen so far at this World Cup. No drama whatsover, the only intriguing question is how many goals are USA exactly going to score vs hopeless Thai girls. France-South Korea ended 4-0, but it was an incomparably closer game than this one.
I think they look well-coached and well-organized and that their game plan was right. They just have weaker ball skills and less athleticism at almost every spot on the field, and they will definitely tire out before the US after all of this defending.
I prefer no-drama when my own team plays. Too stressful. I find I only appreciate it afterwards. There are 11 other games for drama. [emoji48]
Lavelle needed to move there. She just standing waiting for Morgan to pass her the ball just outside the box.
Thailand's keeper has the footwork of a bad U12 rec player. They are bound to have someone better in their country. As a former coach specializing in keepers I would be embarrassed to claim I trained such an inept and clumsy keeper.
