    Group B, have at it....

But don't forget to read the Mod Warning.

And don't forget, there will be results discussed, so if you want to watch the match later, but maintain the suspense, please don't read this thread until later.

Germany and Spain alone at the top right now, but neither one was completely convincing.

China and South Africa both showed good things, but the worst GD right now and the Red Carded player could spell doom for South Africa. Looks like China has more chance, judging from what we've seen vs Germany.

Apparently Marozsan broke her toe in the Germany-China match but continued playing. They're saying that she's out for the rest of the group stage at least.

It is: and Germany, at this round, didn't look irresistible to begin with! :cautious:

You might be looking for a different word here. Maybe appealing?

Wow! Big loss. Who fills the void?
I doubt she'll be back for the knockout rounds either.

I think "unstoppable" is the more intended synonym here

Yes. I thought irresistible was an existing word, but probably it means something else entirely in English. The English words that derive from Latin are easy traps to me, because I tend to assume the same meaning they have in Latin or in Latin-derived languages as Italian.

she's a bit overrated in my book(the French ala Lyon love her more) plus the Germans have an armada of top quality AM's to replace her with. Problem more with Germany is that they refuse to switch to a faster, transition game(which seems like woso is more headed). So their going to be the more deliberate, take possession of midfield first, before even launching an attack, type style.
They will meet their match in Spain, however as nobody seems to do it better than them(pass, pass, pass, pass & then some, lol)

Irresistible has a double meaning - both unstoppable and desirable/highly attractive.

Kinda like the female version of Ozil?!

I liked when the Germans put in Buhl. She’s quick.

Maybe this has been discussed elsewhere, such as on TV, and I've missed it, but is this World Cup heading into the same situation FIFA has been trying since 1982 to avoid, one where two teams can clinch places in the knockout stage by tying each other?

If Thailand and Chile both lose tomorrow, which seems very possible, there will thus be two groups (E and F) in which the third-place team is sure to have no more than three points, so any team with four or more points is certain to advance. Spain and China each currently have three points. If they tie on Monday, each will have four points and will advance.

I don't think that Spain and China would tie intentionally. In this era of news saturation, I don't think any team wants the sort of bad PR that would result. But it is interesting, and would cause a lot of finger-pointing if they did tie legitimately.

I believe such a situation occurred anyway in one of the last two MWCs, so yeah the math can work out that "conspiracy to advance" is still possible on the last day even with same-time kickoffs.

It happened with Colombia and Peru in CONMEBOL qualification for 2018. A win for either side would have eliminated the other and allowed Chile to take the playoff spot. Although Peru was technically still at risk since they were also depending on Paraguay failing to beat Venezuela at home, but in the event that worked out for them. Is that what you're referring to? Or did it happen in the WC finals, too? Probably not likely in a 32-team format, I imagine.

I think what might happen is if there is a draw and ten minutes to go, they might slow down and do nothing. I saw in the 2009 Euros with France and Norway both going through with a draw in a 12 teams format.

From today on, the final games of each group will be played at the same time. It's likely that I am going to check "the other game" from time to time, but I'd like to concentrate on just one match at a time.

While for some groups my decision is already made and easy (Italy-Brazil over Australia-Jamaica; Japan-England over Scotland-Argentina), for some others I have doubts. For instance, guys, what would you suggest to watch for Group B, by a pure "interest of the match" perspective, with no personal attachment actually involved for any team? China-Spain or South Africa-Germany?
