When pertaining to Colombia I think attendance will be good. Colombia has only hosted this tournament once in more than a century of its inception. There's really nothing bigger for Colombians to look forward to than this other than WCQing.
Pertaining to Argentina the attendance may also be good if they go about it a smart way logistically. Basing Most of the Chile matches in Mendoza would sell out like hot cakes because it is on their border. Uruguay always sells tickets in most "river plate" area stadiums. And the smaller regional stadiums will be excited to have any Copa America matches I imagine.
If two Quarterfinals are first vs. fourth and two are second vs. third, there will be more to play for on the last matchday than advancing or not advancing.
Ridiculous format. They should just make it a 16 team tournament and invite 6 teams. Perhaps the Gold Cup and Copa should just be merged.
From an outsiders footballing perspective I think that's the ideal. From a political perspective it has a few difficulties to overcome.
Where are you getting this info?!?!?! Copa América has never been nor will it be 2 groups of 6. It's 3 groups of 4! Where did this Intel com from?!?!?!?!

Ah my bad!!! And wow!!! I thought you were taking about this year's Copa America but nevertheless, I can't believe they are doing that going forward... but wait a second, I think it's only for 2020, right? Because of the 2 hosts and in order to avoid traveling costs and any other costs dealing with crossing borders, I guess this is economically better for this one time because I guess some of the nations (I know mine for sure) are always on a budget and this makes sense other than also literally sharing the Copa 50/50. That being said, my reasoning may not be valid at all and if that's the case, then yeah... why would they do this. Not gonna lie... I kinda like it though as more opportunities for "lesser" clubs and more excitement for fans because after all, this tournament is not about teams within a country but it's clubs representing nations of fans!! Before I start rambling on, for more on this, you can see my ramble here.
Way too many to overcome. The main one being CONCACAF not giving up on the idea of two Gold Cups in one cycle.
Actually if Conembol is going to go to the 2 group format, there is no need to invite any teams. Why not just 2 groups of 5 ? And I would skip the quarter finals and just go straight to semi finals. Having a quarter finals in a tournament with so few teams is kind of meaningless and lowers the importance and excitement of the group games.
That used to be the format. (Two groups of 5). It all comes down to money though. More games and more teams and more TV regional markets means more money. As I posted earlier (in the South American forum) Qatar/Bein Sports bought up the television rights to braodcast in many different countries. CONMEBOL is very pleased with that deal.
Maybe, although one pretty much has to go by boat to get to the other side of the River plate. That’s fine for a few hundred supporters, but not sure the infrastructure is there for 20 thousand on the same day. I hope they put in more express boats between Montevideo and BA for the copa, cuz otherwise there is a 3 hour bus ride as part of the journey. Chile to Mendoza is not any easier.
The 2020 group stage will seem endless. So I agree - if only the top 2 advanced in each group of 5, it would have made for far fewer dead-rubber matches in all likelihood. And if you must have 6 teams per group, then only top 3 (max) should advance IMO. With the top 4 advancing, you’ll see teams essentially with nothing to play for in their last 2 group matches, which is unheard of in int’l tournaments.
Based on what was seen in 2011 there are plenty of Chile supporters near or in Mendoza and also a lot of Uruguayan supporters already living near Buenos Aires. The stadiums were pretty much packed with red and sky blue. The Final between Uruguay and Paraguay in the Monumental looked like a match in Montevideo.
Yeah, for a final of course they will make the extra effort. Just not sure about the 5 group games. Copa Americas are not exactly known for pulling in huge crowds from abroad.
sure, "ok". But even the final didn't sell out, IIRC. Plus that was back when there was a copa only once every 4 years. Now there is one pretty much every non-WC summer.
Even so. This one is closer to Uruguay. I think attendance will be fine if properly scheduled and rigged for the fanbases closest to the stadiums..
Changing gears back to the format... ...the craziest rumor yet is that the 2020 Final may be played in two legs. The first leg in Barranquilla and the 2nd Leg in Buenos Aires. I am not sure how credible this rumor is but it would not shock me if it is being considered.
Just avoid another Argentinian embarrassment at hosting a continental final match: move it to Barcelona already.
Make it best of 7. Deciding match in the Bernabeu during September int'l break. Cuz mo' $£€. Meanwhile, tickets went on sale today for Euro 2020 - a tournament that starts at about the same time as this copa for which they are still figuring out where the final should be played.
About that... Brazilian journalists are reporting that the the entire knockout round will be held in Colombia. But then, there's a rumor out of Argentina that the final might be played over a two-game series with each host having one leg BOMBA de @HernanSCastillo en #HalconesyPalomas 💣 Argentina y Colombia llegaron a un acuerdo para la Copa América 2020: el partido inaugural será en Argentina y la final será ida y vuelta💣 Argentina se candidateó oficialmente a organizar el Mundial femenino 2023 #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/3yZKgDd5Ck— TNT Sports Argentina (@TNTSportsAR) June 12, 2019 To which the Brazilians are sticking to their guns: Sem essa de final dupla, segundo apurou o @mart_fern.
