I have to give a shit to look things up in the first place. Gold Cup is a giant snoozer. And, I mean, 4 games. Like, why the hell even bother?

I'm not sure why you're being a dick after not using the tools available to you, but you DID say "get back to you when..." and sure enough I got back to you right away.

Nevertheless, there's actually a very good reason the tournament is always played in the US. Actually, several. It will lose money everywhere but maybe Mexico (yes, probably even Canada), and no Central American country can handle the logistics. Want to further impoverish places that can't afford it? By all means, hold a big sporting event.

MAYBE you can have a pan-Caribbean event. Maybe. If you want to play on swampy, bumpy cricket ovals.

The water thing is a red herring. Any team with any sense will either bring their water or buy bottled in-country with ease. Even the poor ones. Or the host will provide bottled.

I know you like to argue, but surely you didn't think I meant 4 token games. Wake me up when the whole tournament is somewhere other than the US.

    Money, duh. Everyone knows this.

Does the GC make money here? Really? Considering all the stadiums are half empty during the group stage, and only a quarter empty in the KO stage, I have a hard time believing that. Mexico can fill up Azteca. The US couldn't even fill the new Seatlle of US Soccer, Cincy's Nippert Stadium. Entire top level was empty, can see it in the highlights.

    1) Countries can choose to bid or not. No one is forcing it on them.

    2) Sports lose money for about 95% of teams already, all over the world. So.... I don't see how this is specific to CONCACF. Let's be real, basically every city in the US shouldn't be spending a dime of private sports teams. They are impoverishing themselves, instead of spending money on schools or health care or etc etc.

    3) I have a hard time believing Costa Rica, one of the top tourist-friendly countries in this hemisphere, can't host games. Sure, you won't get NFL stadium sized crowds, but do those stadium get full? LOL no f'ing way.

Of course that won't happen, we can't even beat T&T's C team away.

    (Too soon?)

If only there was someone who sat through 5 years of Berhalter coaching his favorite team who was bold enough to say that Berhalter wasn’t a good coach.

Maybe that person may have also said that the idea of exciting attacking play in the “Berhalter System” was just that, an idea. That this idea rarely, if ever, came to fruition on the field.

Nah. Impossible. That person would probably just be referred to as negative or contrarian. Just like those nasty Norweigans who fired Berhalter for putting them to sleep with dire uninspired football.

But seriously, what does hang know?

Can someone please go find the Kyle Crew who used to have halfway insightful posts and return him to the Crew forum post haste?

So you did not mean what you said? Okay.

Without which, the tournament - flawed as it is - doesn't exist. The region stagnates.

Bill probably knows better, but it at least pulls in enough to give decent prize money AFAIK.

Mexico and US gate receipts likely fund most of it.

Not at tournament prices. If you pay attention, not even at low prices depending on the opponent and the team's performance. Mexico is guaranteed huge gates playing in the US, which is why at least half of their friendlies are here.

    Neat. Probably still made money.

Jesus ********ing Christ...this, right here, rebuts your entire whine better than anything. Mexico probably doesn't bid often/at all. If you can tell me who else has, I'd love to hear who.

Can you explain why you are arguing that the economics of professional sports teams competing in leagues and national teams competing in monthlong tournaments for prize money are the same?

You tell me if they can host 16 teams and schedule a monthlong tournament (ON GRASS) and charge anything close to what can be charged here - even allowing for cost of living.

Agreed. We should all be thankful to @mateo319 for creating a Fire Berhalter thread a handful of years ago.

Did not expect to come here after the United States and Gregg Berhalter embarrassed themselves to find a series of lectures from sudden CONCACAF shill, Timon.

But, I guess that's more exciting than the dreck that the USMNT is putting on the field these days....

    I have no real problem.

I'm finding extremely insightful your posts here in "The Berhalter Era pt 1" that have little to nothing to do with the product on the field.

I feel that your shilling for CONCACAF has really put into perspective the two abysmal performances we have seen from Berhalter and his squad this week.

By no means do I think you've popped up in a thread just to argue and not discuss the actual product on the field.

The tactical nous you bring to this discussion is helping to really move the conversation forward about what we can expect from Gregg and the team going forward.

I have no problems, please carry on....

I didn't see the game. I already deleted it. Listening to the first half was bad enough.

I apologize for posting posts that you don't approve of, and I really, really apologize for not paying enough attention to you ( in the passive-aggressive "LOOK AT MEEEEEEEEEE!" sense you've been whining about).

He launched the same tired insult at me a few weeks ago. I only talk about Markus and whatever else he mentioned.... Jealous you received the insult of shill. At least it shows he cares.

The consistent replies and asking "what is your problem?" isn't paying attention? Interesting tactic!!! Were you the type who kicked your crushes shoe in the hallway, or brushed shoulders against her and then ran away? Hard to get!!!!!

I mean let's be frank. I never see you posting in the game threads. Hardly ever in the roster thread, or any player thread. Every once in a while you'll post in another thread with something tangental to the issue at hand and be asked to take it to the politics thread.

It's as if once the larger Save The Crew thread shut down you wander the earth into threads like a nomad Big Soccer Ben Shapiro challenging undergrads to debates....but never really about the issue at hand.

At any rate though, Swenson's right?

    You have some issues.

Let's be franker - that's how it was BEFORE the Crew were in trouble. It was MOSTLY the case through the crisis. So...is the problem that you are crying out for my participation because of some unrequited something-or-other, or are you simply crying that an internet forum runs off-topic constantly, like absolutely every other high-traffic forum in the history of forums? Are you Lee Smith trying to police Matchnight?

You have very weird fetishes that seem to have an effect on how the world appears to you.

    You bet!

It's not really crying out for more of your participation as it is pointing out that your current levels of participation leave a bit to be desired in terms of #content.

As far as my fetishes, you have me nailed. Matchnight mask costume parties, and block quotes. Talk dirty to me.....

It's shocking how disinterested I am in the USMNT program right now. We not only stink, we're lacking any real personality. We're boring.

I’m actually more interested. At least we aren’t throwing the same group of players out every game for the senior team and the baby Nats are fun to watch.
