Can we just at least fire Jay B? The nepotism knows no bounds here. Looking forward to watching more of The United States Men’s National Crew Team though.
Is it possible to check the subscriber count on threads? I would love to see a graph of that for this thread so I could at least follow one positive trend in U.S. soccer.
He asked Arena, Bradley and Jürgen for advice on picking players... that’s all I needed to hear. Fire Berhalter.
There are so many reasons to hop aboard. He insists on playing out of the back with a team that lacks the talent to do it. He insists on the fulcrum of the team being either Trapp or Bradley. He makes highly questionable personnel decisions. etc... etc..
I'll just post this here: https://www.change.org/p/united-states-soccer-federation-fire-greg-berhalter Now, it's not going to do anything, but it'd be funny as hell if it got a bunch of signatures and maybe got a mention during a game. That's my hope for it at least. (This isn't self-promotion, btw. I didn't make it, I just signed it)
I dunno. The threads where everybody agrees are often pretty dead. You ever follow Cherundolo's thread?
Just how much rope does Berhalter have? If we do poorly in the Gold Cup, you guys think the Fed will have second thoughts?
I really have to wonder just what would have to happen in the Gold Cup for Berhalter to get yanked. Is it even a possibility? mean, they wanted him so bad they waited longer than he's even been coach so far just so they could hire him.
Because we waited so long to pick a coach, we lost a lot of time. We should have had these system in place and player selection, all biases worked out, by now. So far, I am not a fan of the new coach, but were we to change horses now, it would almost seal our not qualifying. We are wobbling badly, but we still have not seen a first choice team playing together. We have also played two "A" teams that were that far ahead in system and player selection. If he puts whatever ego or company affiliations he has behind and says f@#$ck it, we may be able to get it together in time to qualify. Then he's out. And he's out because he pulled this stunt at the cost of the team's success. Team first; affiliations, nonexistent.
I am undecided on giving slack due to not having Pulisic, Adams and McKennie available for many games and never all of them for a full 90 so far. That is a huge issue for this team with a very shallow player pool. But, injuries happen and coaches have to have some sort of backup plan for when the top guys go missing and we're not losing to good teams missing our top sliver of guys, we're getting taken apart by poor teams.
This has a formal name in business: Sunk-cost fallacy. Cut our losses. Switch now. Or during the Gold Cup when it's absolutely clear he's over his head even to the casual fans. Either way, the sooner the better. And there's no advantage to waiting.
He still has to get the Gold Cup. It would be wrong to fire a guy only off friendlies, but every US coach should understand that a poor Gold Cup puts you close to an exit.
I’ve signed because he needs pressure and so does the Fed. I expect that once the US fails to make it out of its group at the gold cup, this will take off. (Seriously, do you think this team can get past T&T or Panama?)
I was listening to Grumpy Pundits this AM on Sirius XMFC and they expect the US to take 9 points in the opening round and go on to winning it.... but I get the sense that they don't believe the latter part at all. The vitriol regarding GB this AM was amusing and well deserved. GB has failed on so many fronts. His favoritism towards MLS players makes his possession out of the back system literally laughable. He is going w/ ageing strikers. He is playing people of out of position. The hits just keep on coming. But you are completely correct... firing the coach after a few friendlies would be harsh... but finding a way to get thru the GC group stage against the opponents the US will have to play should not be enough to save his job. IMO, anything less than playing in the finals and he should be replaced... If I knew the US would replace him with Tab Ramos then I would actually root for it to happen. I was heartened watching the U20s lose to a talented Equador Team this weekend. Just like they did when they won against France, those young men played with passion, desire and showed real skill. Of course, Weah, Soto, Dest, and Mendez all play in Europe. Tab doesn't seem to mind.
Well the biggest problem is if we fire Berhalter now, at the pace the fed works we may be lucky to have a coach before Qater 2022.
Nice article about older brother Jay: https://www.inquirer.com/soccer/gre...occer-carlos-cordeiro-dan-flynn-20181205.html
