but knowing how to effectively use the cash 9and people) is key - reference back to Williams....Frank knew what he was doing. Claire? not so much....(nor Sir Patrick either w/o Frank). Names are different but the concepts are directly parallel to DCU
What a shitshow. Props to Vettel for one of the all time post-race tantrums. His moving the number boards in front of the cars was priceless.
Vettel should have been penalized. He turned his wheel to the right blocking Lewis. I am not buying the "what was he supposed to do" crying. He was supposed to stay to the left. Lewis handled it well so I would call foul on @Section107 whininess comment. While it was funny at times Seb showed how little class he really has with his pitiful tantrum.
We are getting WAY off -topic, so to keep it at least a little bit relevant - I must say how quite pleasantly surprised I am at how many here are not only observers but also knowledgeable about F1. ups to DCU fans - or at least the ones here. I agree Vettel went on too long complaining about it and can't fault Mercedes for using the rules as they are written. Even in soccer, half the battle is knowing the rules and how to apply them .To be fair, I think a lot of that was just 2 seasons+ of continuing frustration coming out. Also, in the fraction of the second all that transpired I think its impossible for the stewards to really say the car was under control enough that Vettel could/should have stayed left. Schuey was not everyone's favorite, either, but I dont remember him having the same reputation of whininess in his dominant days as Lewis does in his. And he used to purposely drive his car into opponents!
There are a number of problems with FI today: 1) Mercedes dominance -- not their fault, but it makes for a boring race day 2) Ferrari incompetence, when coupled with #1 it makes it even worse 3) The cars are too ********ing wide and the aero makes passing hard because you really can't follow closely 4) Guenther Steiner is my spirit animal -- his response to KMag's whining was priceless. Whenever you think you have it bad, think about Steiner, he has to manage two of biggest whingeing assholes in F! -- KMag and Grosjean. 5) I would like to see how well Lewis would do in the current Williams and how well Russell would do in a Mercedes. 6) For entertainment value, listen to the podcast "For Formula 1's Sake" and buy them a beer.
This year's STM gift ... a gift card. On one hand, a total cop out ... on the other, perfect to get something you actually like, assuming its a decent amount. I always kind of liked getting something from the team, even if it was another scarf, because it singled me out in the stadium as an STM, even it was that horrific white scarf a few years ago that bore no DCU crest.
I am 98% positive the cards will be worth different amounts based on tier of seats and length of season tickets - but we'll only know if we share the amount amongst each other
Apparently, you have to pick them up in person on the 26th. Hopefully, there's an alternative way to do it for people who can't make that game.
They're actually going to put a price on our patronage ... I wonder how that will go. Just imagine a 96er with club seats gets enough for a jersey and some newb with end line seats up high gets enough for pack of soccer cards and a lego Ben Olsen. This will be the fodder for the most epic internet banter ever!
i will be rafting in the grand canyon during that game - my rep says, "Also, we'll have pick up on the 29th and on July 12th, as well." Cant wait to see what schwag I can get that will differentiate me from the rest of the hoi-polloi with my $25 gift card (actually $27.50 with STM discount don't forget) Oh, wait.... To be fair, almost no matter what they did they were gonna get hammered on this. The survey said most people wanted a choice of gift - so they came up with a way to give us a choice that would not result in a run on one item and ton of useless leftovers of the other stuff. Of course, the machete braintrust still did it poorly, unimaginatively, and ham-handedly just as they do almost everything else. Why not say in preseason, "here is your very nicely presented 2019 STM card and as thank you for your patronage, please select from these limited, STM-exclusive merch: order what you want, then bring your card to the team store to pick it up and enjoy an additional special one-time discount of x% toward other merch." Then they would only have to order the quantities they needed and every one gets what they want. Also, keep in mind that most places you buy from dont give you anything back as a thank you. I am going to guess Frequent Flyer miles and hotel/car rental points redemption rates typically work out at less than 1% of spend - not including other restrictions on actually using them. And credit card points/cash-back doesnt count in this situation - you are not buying product from visa or amex - they are just brokers between you and the vendor. But overall, its not really the what - it's the piss-poor execution with the "we really dont care about our customer" sense of style these manglers have....
