So I'm making money and ranks in this............I'm making old school respect from the hood. We think the US is going to win, what do you think, are they, with the talent they bring or the depth?

A fools bet. The USA, France, and Germany doesn’t get you even money back.

Canada at 33-1 looks like the bet. Hell, I could retire.

    Oh, wait...

keep in mind that some coaches don't want to show their best till the WC tourney itself, but based on the last couple of friendlies, the Dutch look strongest with the US a close 2nd.

one of the major differences between bro & woso is that it's much harder in the women's game to clear the ball out of it's own defense/danger zones. Like a tarantula stalking & bouncing it;s prey----Jill Ellis takes full advantage of that with her hard core, high press. It works pretty much against the rest of the world(probably vs the Dutch as well), all expet one team.........France! as they got the two ahtletic CB's that can knock the ball out of the ball park/or in this case, way upfield towards their attacking fwds in Godspeed.\.

So hence, the expected quarter finals matchup will be probably be the real final

The USA traveled to France in January and got smoked. The midfield Ellis started was a joke and the LB she used was a college kid who conceded two goals.

She didn't start Dunn at LB. We have no idea if Dunn can defend top competition. She has been spotty there against lesser teams than France. Lately, we haven't played anyone that caused her to play defense.

If she had started Dunn, and she had defended France well, we would have a much clearer picture of the USWNT's chances. You can say she didn't want to show her hand. But I think she was just scared that Dunn wouldn't work there and didn't want to know that until the Quarterfinal of the World Cup.

    Agreed.

The team was supposedly carrying a lot of injuries and had several starters unavailable...
    • Ertz
    • Rapinoe
    • Heath
    • Lavelle
    • KO

Lavelle was the only one that was even an available sub on the official roster, but she didn't play a minute. Of course, all of them miraculously recovered (except KO who had been out for a long time already) and started the game against Spain just 3 days later.

It would have been the perfect opportunity to get Dunn some valuable experience against elite competition. It might also have given a better idea of how badly you want to beat Sweden to play France in the QF.

I still think resting players against Sweden is the smart play, no matter which bracket France ends up in.

...because Canada with Sinclair in top form coming out group E would be such a cool rematch. She might have already topped Abby’s Record by that match.

I got my brackets working out as the US will play Spain 2nd round, then France in the quarters and England in semis to reach the final vs. Holland. It's difficult to see us winning it all, but I want to believe, and hopefull that:

    Jill Ellis won't get outcoached.

    Alyssa Naeher saves.

    Morgan's 7 game scoring streak.

    here
    I'm saying "no."
My reasons are 1) with the system she's been playing, if you mark Ertz out of the game - basically, just deny her the pass from the back line, which is not that hard to do - our offense shuts down. 2) the system puts too much pressure on Ertz defensivly. 3) I don't think we'll beat France in France. 4) I think at some point, playing 2 slow wingers will bite us. I'm a huge fan of both Tobin and Pino. But, I think we give up too much speed with them, and Horan on the field at the same time.

    Hope I'm wrong.

Will we, won't we? That is the central question for this year's WWC.

after the 1st round of matches it obviously makes the US looking like the favorites, with a far behind France at 2nd & Norway 3rd. But it really belongs to which style is made to order for the other, and I still feel France is the only team out there that can/knows how to get passed Ellis's high press trap

btw.......France will be playing Norway tomorrow, I wonder if their thinking about intentionally loosing so they can by pass the expected quarter finals matchup?

I observed in a recent discussion in this forum that this chant isn't exactly a favorite among the posters here but I suppose it makes an appropriate [if somewhat frivolous] reply to this thread.
