And the UPSL is a league that has....some sort of mechanism (though not in all its divisions) for teams to move up based on sporting merit, but I can't remember what that's called right now.

It starts with "b" and rhymes with "tribe".

Considering their CEO did time for shady stuff, that might very well be a good enough synonym, yeah.

Any news on TV coverage or internet broadcasts when the league kicks off?

I realize that the NPSL Pro probably won't include NPSL at this point, but: https://www.npsl.com/news/10846

That will probably apply to the the Founders Cup.

Hopefully more professional than the formatting on the story about how professional the broadcasts will be.

I don’t see this thing starting in fall. Or ever for that matter.

FC will happen, it's whatever next year holds that's up in the air. Even if Miami United drops out, the east would still be at 5 teams.

I guess the thing I'm most skeptical about on this is that I was already having trouble figuring out where the next batch of NPSL Pro teams were coming from (beyond the Founders Cup teams, I mean) and his potential targets don't really overlap with where I could see them coming from.
I guess it depends a lot on the definition of "east coast" (Lenard is in Texas) and "Midwest".

I still have a really hard time seeing any teams in my mental picture of those regions being ready for L1 by 2021. Jacksonville or Miami United, maybe. I could maybe see Grand Rapids thinking this would work. Possibly Duluth.

Yea I wouldn’t be shocked if their leaving cause the Founders league is looking like it’s going to collapse before it ever got up and running. The article talks about concerns over the league having not been sanctioned. The phrasing of “high level” friendlies leaves me to believe their spinning it on the other teams in the league not I gotta far enough along in their preparations for the season. Their unveiling their jerseys tomorrow I’m sure they’ll field questions on it.

It's hard to gauge really. At the moment, Roots is a t-shirt company with really good branding.

I get that scheduling friendlies against Mexican and Central American teams is going to bring in a hell of a lot more money than ASC San Diego and Napa, but they could easily have done both. Them dropping out of Founders Cup seems like a realization that they won't actually be ready to play in 7 weeks than it is some indictment of the tournament itself.

I think everyone expected them to join NISA in 2020, anyway, and FC itself doesn't have any sort of expectation of commitment past this fall. But it probably doesn't help your image if you half-ass your first impression.

Their far more than that. Go look at the staff they brought in so far. They have what looks like a really good group. With good experience.

Yea it will def bring in more money. As for doing both I got to imagine that would be more expensive then it’s worth. If they don’t feel the league is going to make its first season or that it’s going to last beyond a year then NISA makes more sense.

Def not a good look. But neither is being part of a failed league. If that’s the case guess it comes down to which they think is worse.

    That doesn't mean they're ready.

I get it costing more than it's worth, that's been the problem with the western conference from the start.

But FC is not a league. Whatever league that several members are/were trying to form is not FC. It's a one off tournament, that's all. There's no future for Oakland to get cold feet over.

The FC is not sanctioned yet, which means for instance that they can't use USSF certified referees.

Founder's Cup is NPSL. It's sanctioned. There's no connection between FC and whatever is being discussed for next year.
