In the America games I watched Roger player behind the #9 and was Benedetti sub:(sucks he got hurt and that Barrera is a dumbass)

Lot of left sided attacking players
    Diaz, James, Cardona, Muriel

    Right side
Cuadrado..... potentially Uribe? Tho James can play there but why play your best player out of position?

Hope the long wait for a coach doesn’t hurt us. And the fact the mini camp was canceled.

No Nacional defenders or Murillo :)

Now if we play with 1 striker does he have the balls to bench Falcao especially if James doesn’t play against Peru or Panama.

I still think Falcao gets the nod in a 1 Striker formation much to the chagrin of many who want to see Duvan.

    I can see:

    ----------------Ospina-------------------
    Arias-------Mina------Davinson--------Borja
    -------------Uribe-------Barrios-----------
    -------------------James------------------
    -----Cuadrado-------Falcao----------Muriel-----------------

    Or

    ----------------Ospina-------------------
    Arias-------Mina------Davinson--------Borja
    -------------Uribe-------Barrios-----------
    -------------------James-------------Cardona-
    -----Cuadrado-------Falcao------------------------

I don't know why I get the feeling that against Argentina CQ will play conservatively and have minimum 2 DFM (Barrios/Lerma). He said it himself, he's not here to improvise.

He sounds legit though, I really like the way he thinks:

I got that feeling too as I mentioned in an earlier post.
In fact my gut feeling goes to the extreme and says he will play Lerma, Barrios and Uribe at the same time.

Out of this call-up, so so glad to see Cardona back. Only guy other than James and JFQ that can make others play and can finish. I expect we'll see him start vs Panama if James wont be playing.

If he's saying he wants his midfielders to be box to box I'm imagining he wants to go with a 4-3-3, James has been playing in that system for Bayern so its doable. If we want to go more defensive we can play Lerma-Barrios-James or we can play Uribe-Barrios-James and if we want all out attack we could also see Cardona-Barrios-James.

If we're playing a 3 man midfield that means we're playing with one 9 which makes sense why we'd bring Roger since he can play alone up top if needed and wide, also Duvan can be pushed wide in a front 3 if needed but don't think its ideal.

Leaving Villa at home makes me think that James and/or Cardona are going to see time playing in a front 3 at times. If not my best guess and the most natural fit would be

    Muriel-Duvan-Cuadrado

    Uribe-Barrios-James

I think also a formation that could work for us and we could use if we don't trust our LB's. Think this formation would be one that allows us to use Falcao in a way that will get the best out of him with a partner that will do most of the heavy lifting and allow him to goal poach.

    Duvan-----Falcao
    --------------James
    -----Cardona-Barrios-Uribe
    Arias---Sanchez----Mina------Cuadrado

We used this formation at the World Cup but it works better if we have more offensive minded players in the midfield 3 that are capable of playing wide and getting forward and jumping in the attack whenever needed. Also against a team like Argentina with Messi its a good formation to crowd out his areas and counter attack with.

is it possible that James comes off the bench opening game - with gradual increases in minutes as we get further in the tournament?

he's likely not 100% fit and i would rather have James get stronger over the course of the tournament rather than get injured opening game and struggle to find that fitness.

A priority for opening game is to not let Messi have too much space - i know that's captain obvious, but we will be facing a much different version than what we saw in the 2018 friendly

against Argentina in 2018, we had

    Ospina
    Palacios-Davison-Jeison-Machado
    Barrios-Cuellar
    Cuadrado-Quintero
    Falcao-Muriel

with Bacca, Villa, Diaz, Benedetti, Uribe coming off the bench

Sub in James for Falcao who will also probably be a guy who will need to conserve energy over 3 games in short time - i can't imagine Falcao playing three 90-minute group games.

Other potential subs would be Lerma/Cuellar for defensive or Muriel/Diaz/Roger for attacking strategy?

    Ospina
    Arias-Mina-Davinson-Borja
    Uribe-Barrios
    Cuadrado-Cardona
    Falcao-Duvan

Just a thought outside the box....

If James is cleared to play by the medical staff I think he will start no matter what his form is. I think Queiroz would be criticized unmercifully if he does not put him out there against our biggest Group foe.

He should be healthy and has these next two friendlies to get some sort of form.

As for Cardona I am really interested in seeing if he can leave a positive impression on Queiroz because he is not the type of player he likes based on all the reports about his strategies and tactics.

In some weird way I think he would opt for Diaz to start if James can't go since he is faster, in better shape and tracks back on defense and hustles better than Cardona usually does.

Hopefully Duvan is being rested because of his recent load of games but other then that I like that its attacking and I think its a good time to experiment with Cardona and Cuadrado playing more central in a midfield 3. Very attacking which is great.

That is quite the attacking squad.
    Kudos to Queiroz.

Alvaro Montero, showed confidence. That to me, is a positive direction. Given our goalie "crisis"

But what does it Mean that he tested positive for the migraine drug?

Was hoping he’d go to Nacional if Gamero gets the job

So far so good for Cardona.
If he has another man of the match performance against Peru as he did in Bogota he will give Queiroz no other choice than to start him or at least make him his main super sub.

I think it is similar to the Paolo Guerrero case. If traces of a banned substance are in your system even if it is not intentional, accidental, or for a purpose to cure an illness you can still be suspended. The law is the law but of course his case should be reviewed and there can be appeals and lawyers on his behalf trying to defend him and make it less of a sanction.

No and a lot of medicines that arent useful to increase your performance. Froome for example was investigaed for the use of a medicine for asma called salbutamol

That doping test is a joke......the worst part is that people dont read or just doesnt understand and will start to say that montero is a cheater because he was "positive"

That does make him look really bad.
Don't know if it is worthy of leaving him off a roster but an argument can be made for sure.

Agreed that people should be responsible.
Just don't know if it is an offense to be left of a Copa roster but I agree with you. It would send the right message.

The bad thing tactically may be if he is left off the roster for a reason like that you cannot replace him.
I think replacements can only be done due to injury or some other similar circumstances.
