Of course, if Wood is offered a reasonable deal and takes it because he wants to explore other opportunities, he should go for it. I'm not arguing against that at all. I'm arguing against the idea that he should allow himself to be, or that he can be forced out under terms he's not comfortable with. And arguing agains the idea that there is any financial incentive for HSV to punish him by sitting him in the reserves. Unless that can force him to leave, HSV gains nothing financially from that. But if Wood prefers to go for a fresh start and gets a reasonable buy-out, sure.
It's the number in the article linked in the tweet you posted. I know his BuLi salary was "around $4m" so it fits. The article also says it's going down to €2.5m post-relegation. Read what you post.
The thing I don’t understand about soccer players on bad contracts (i.e. being paid more in salary than they are worth on the field) is how seldom their clubs are willing to simply give them away on free transfers or even package them with marginal squad/youth players to encourage another club to take on the dead weight. Just because you paid 5M for a player 3 years ago or paid him 4M in wages this year doesn’t mean the guy should net you a material transfer fee - feels like a kind of loss aversion at work.
I think it's going back and forth between currencies. In my time in Europe, the Euro high point has been $1.47, the low has been $1.06. The most common has been between $1.20 and $1.30, so euro 3m into $ is a mess and depends on the day. Right now, it's generally low, like $1.11. The numbers are all over the place, and might all be accurate.
Yeah HSC are pretty much in with the German rap scene. I love that, to show she's a badass who doesn't play by the rules, the woman is eating a cheeseburger in the video. Also, what's with the SUV? I remember when a German rap vid would stick to S-classes. A Range Rover screams prol, and "I will never find a parking spot for this thing in Mitte"
Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, but I think it's because the player is owed their salary for the length of the contract, unless he agrees to make a new contract with his current team or is transferred to another team and negotiates a new contract with them. So if the player is still under contract, and a team agreed to let another team buy him for a nominal transfer fee or no transfer fee, that new team would still have to pay his salary. The player has to agree to take a pay cut or the current team has to pay part of his salary/buyout his contract to make a deal work. There may be some psychological loss aversion at work if the team paid a big transfer fee, but I would think professional sports executives are more rational than your average fan.
I wonder how much is bumps (or alleged bumps) across the contract. For instance, the German article I linked seemed to say E3.5 "if" Hamburg is promoted - but does that mean Wood has been on E3.5 for the entire contract when they are in the Bund, E2.5 when they are in the B2 or are there built in increases. I've never seen a top pro-league longform. You hear so much about performance bonuses etc. etc. it's likely a much more fluid number than is reported.
Nope. They finished fourth and didn't even make the playoff game. Union Berlin did make that game and won, sending Stuttgart down to BL2 - and @mschofield over the moon
and with a newly assembled and too expensive squad they buy over the summer, so that next summer they not only go down, they go bankrupt, again. They've already announced plans for 15,000 new capacity, and while the Bobby Wood Windfall paid for the squad that got them up, it will not pay for 15,000 fing new seats (I'm hoping stands, those are cheaper), especially because I don't know that it was built to be expanded. This was built by fans who owned a concrete company and a construction company and folks willing to work nights and weekends and I don't think Populous were among the fan base. Alte Forsterei with 33,000? Would be a madhouse, but if the prawn sandwich hipsters vanish if/when they go back down, and what the hell happens then? I guess given our location we put on our dress unis, walk into Rathaus Koepenick and demand the money boxes, but I'm hoping there's a plan C (i'm assuming plan A is to stay up). So, yes, now comes the dread. Upside, should be easy to recruit young players to Berlin. Downside, being young, rich and in Berlin is a dangerous combo.

So fckn true! Union will be fine this year but I didn't know that they are really going B.E.R. on themselves? Plus I would think union would hunt out (raus jagen alle friedrischainer) yuppies. Don't forget though that there is a good deal of west Berlin that hates Hertha such as myself and are happy to finally root for a Berlin team.
never had any effect on Wood since that bum Lasogga was always going to leave HSV in 2019 and that's the end of his contract as well.
Jonas Boldt, HSV’s sporting director on Wood yesterday: “When players like Papadopoulos and Wood are playing like they once used to play, then they are a boost. But both have to be up and ready for it.”
