Yeah, but there's actually no reporting on it in the US that I found. No quotes from Berhalter or his staff. So I'm guessing the crack reporting team came here and found something that 'came out of the U.S.'

If they have word from the team why not attribute it?

I'm reporting that Wood has offers from every league in Europe and 1860 will win the Champions League. You can quote me.

    all together now

    When you're from Dortmund
Your money won't score you any goals around here
When you're from the capital city
We shit on you and your song
    When you're from Leverkusen
Might as well just leave your goalkeeper at home
When we meet you at Schalke
It's gonna be an away victory for us

    When I'm far far away
No matter if Juventus or Rome
    I'm thinking "Hamburg, my pearl"
    Singing "Home sweet Home"

    Oh Hamburg, my pearl
    You wonderful city
    You're my home
    You're my life
You're the city that I dig
    That I dig

What makes that anthem epic is the heavy accent. Full version, imagine 10,000 fans singing it:

    When you're from Bremen
there's nothing in it for you here
    When you're from Rostock
    better stay at home altogether
    When you're from Cottbus
    you're actually from Poland
    When you're from Munich
we're gonna strip you off your leather pants

    When I'm far, far away
In Athens or at the Cathedral
    I'm thinking "Hamburg, my pearl"
    Singing "Home sweet Home"

    Oh Hamburg, my pearl
    You wonderful city
    You're my home
    My life
    The City that I dig
    That I dig...

but do they really keep an eye on those things? Oh look Mr. Wood scored a hat trick against Haiti yet hasn't scored in 5 months in the Bundesliga.

I think he has to get all healed up. It'd be a tragedy if he's rushed back and picks up another injury in a game that he's not needed in.

This. What will help Wood is to get fit, put his head down, play where they tell him to, and bang in goals. Few teams in the B2 can afford to keep paying a guy and bench him for spite if he's lighting it up wherever he's playing. Sure, he's got to really be on fire, but that's the game. Show up. Score goals. Eventually you get another good gig.

He's really at a crossroads. We don't truly know how healthy he is even capable of getting. He's flamed out 2/3 years in a row? He looked great for one year and got a fat contract off it. I think his health has been an issue in his play, but since he got that contract, he's looked dire. I'm guessing/hoping he's forced out this summer and finds greener pastures anywhere, be it MLS/USL/Luxembourg

Really? Maybe. But evidence suggests that, if his knee is not a problem, he's got the tools to be a very decent B2 striker. He's scored in every 3rd game for the US since like 2105. He had an insane season for Union, and his 1st Bund season was not a complete washout.

His contract is through 21? I think. If he looks good in practice, shuts up and scores for the reserves or wherever he's sent/loaned, he'll continue down his career track, which is a good B2 striker, and a guy who can do ok in the right set-up in the B1 but struggles in the wrong on.

    Hoping Union get Bobby.
If they go down and Bobby is part of the reason it’s definitely the last time we see Bobby is the Bund 1.

    Forced out?
FIFA Article 13: a contract between a professional and a club may only be terminated upon expiry of the term of the contract or by mutual agreement.
It's not expired and he has no obligation to agree.
The EU allows contract termination if there is a material breach. There is no material breach of the contract. He was signed to play football, he's willing to play football. that they don't want him around falls under a legal precendent known as "neener-neener." Nobody forced Hamburg to lock him in at $4m a year.
This is the EU, people have rights.

I mean, yes, obviously they can't literally force him to leave and withhold pay, but they can make him train with the kids, or bar him from training entirely. they could never select him never have him appear in any promo or at any events. they can marginalize him so completely he feels "forced" out. bobby has always come across as a very emotional player and guy, for good and bad, and the club could toy with that to their advantage, and they'd have grounds to do so. clubs are still businesses that have margins to consider and they have lots of ways of trying mitigate their losses. sucks for bobby and the club both if it comes to that

hasn't it been stated that Bobby is too expensive for Hamburg and they have money unlike Union

This would not mitigate losses, unless he can't play anywhere for any money at all. "Mitigating losses" is having X club pay X % of his salary. Every dollar X club pays is a dollar HSV don't. Or, if he's scoring at all, they use him when they need to. Only if Wood were worth 0 on loan and could not help the team at all does it mitigate losses to freeze him out - and even then you are killing any potential fee.

There is 0 business reason for a club to be jerks, except for setting a precedent for future players.

€3.5m/season means in 17-18 HSV paid €1.16 per Bobby goal (2 league, 1 cup).

Same for H96 this season (all 3 league).

    Those are some expensive goals.

Is there a good source for the E3.5mill/season and is there a reason to believe that figure?

    The various numbers I've seen are E1.6mill, $3mill, E3mill - not that those aren't a load of dough - but I haven't seen E3.5mill...

That brace he had last Fall was pretty sweet.
Btw is it 3 million or 4 million euros that he's making per season? I recall he doubled his salary and that was spring/summer 2017 from 1.5 million. But some are saying 3.5-4 million euros so I'm like where is that coming from?

Alsom Hamburg sure overpaid for him. He was making what like 500 K in the 2 Bundesliga and then signs with Hamburg and gets 1.5 million right? And then the owner decides to double his salary. Despite the injuries and poor form, Wood has really done well (thanks to his agent or the idiocy of those in charge of Hamburg).

you be a jerk to try to get him to agree to a mutual termination. they're obligated to pay him, but not to play him. athletes are generally competitive, particularly if they turn 30 during the next World Cup but have never played in one. he can get, say, $100k per month for 2 years ($2.4M) and be stuck with the reserves, or they can agree to $2.4-X to end it now.

People tend to actually get value from work, especially pro athletes who have one more realistic shot at making his/her first World Cup.
