  2. That's because management in the epl is thinking from out of their purses.
A couple of years ago in one of the Dutch threads I posted in reply to pundits (sic) believe that it was impossible for a Dutch club to reach a European final again and yet there was Feyenoord. Then the mantra was that Feyenoord was the last Dutch club to reach a final, let alone win it. Then there was Ajax agains ManUnited.
I wrote just after the Feyenoord win in respons to those idiots it is never impossible. Big clubs can buy their selections, but always go for the established players. Every now and then in the Dutch league a bundle of high talented players pop up at the same time and when they are accompanied by experienced players they can upset the big clubs. The only thing we havenot is depth. So when the occasion of that golden mix appears it depends on injuries if we can make the full run. Not long after I wrote that PSV with that mix of youth and experience were on the brink of getting into the final of the CL. Alas what I wrote as a spanner in the wheels happened. Key player Kone was kicked out for the season by Fabregas in the Arsenal confrontations. PSV was just by one goal eliminated by AC Milan.

So what is lacking in the epl is club management keen on staying up in the epl because of the TV bonus. They're not busy with challenging the big six as they from the start already gave in, plus these lack the capability to run a club as a talent breeder.

Read this as an illustration of what I for years now throw at those "pundits".
Money can buy you alot (but you always have someone with as much money), but vision and knowledge can get you further.

So we have four teams from the same league in the finals of the two Euro competitions. I wonder what UEFA think about this; probably nothing!!! Next season it looks like ManU and may Arsenal or Chelsea will be in the Europa League so there is a distinct possibility that the same thing can happen again. Maybe there should just be the single super league and be done with all this fakery about a 'Champions League.' How can Italy still have four slots given that other than Juventus there is no quality at all. Spain have 2 1/2 teams capable of challenging and Germany 1 1/2. The whole thing is a joke.

  5. That's why that SL is hanging in the air like a mirage. We've been bombarded by the press with investors from Asia and the USA ready to pay the Superclubs revenues that eclipse the combined income of the CL plus EPL money for those clubs for over a decade now. Despite those lofty projections and despite those greedy club owners no one takes the jump.
Why not, one can ask as it is claimed the money is already on the table for the taking?
Probably because those clubs know it's a guaranteed death sentence for the clubs being seperated from their core foundation, the local fans.
It's something those club managers get, but those Asians and Yanks not, as they have no clue what makes these clubs big. Those non Euros have no ecperience/no understanding of the tradition of those clubs and the vital importance for their existance as they're used to sports being a business activity set up within a country the size of a continent without locally grown clubs. They believe the same MO will work in Europe with a Europe wide SL. There is no such thing as one Europe, it's a quilt of very different minded seperate countries that focus on their own league.
The club managers do know that and hence only use it as a threat towards the UEFA to extort favourable positions.
I have often said:"UEFA should drop favourism of the big leagues and return to a true Champions League and thus call the bluff of those big clubs."

I agree with your post 100%. Look at the rivalries within the Eredivisie and how exciting those matches are. It's the same in other leagues as well. One of the exciting things about the Dutch league is that almost any team is capable of winning a given match. In all my years of watching Ajax, I am never comfortable until the final whistle comes except if the margin is 3-4 goals with 20 minutes left to play. You must feel the same about Feyenoord and one can say the same about PSV supporters.

WOW!!! I'm sure ManCity will fight this tooth and nail and if UEFA cannot follow through there is no hope for any parity in Euro football.

  9. ManCity might be in luck if the Brexit comes fast enough. The UK then doesnot let the ECJ have a say in this matter. Unless of course to be in the CL you will have to recognise the ECJ as the final judge in UEFA matters.

  10. Stark warning from accountancy firms about finances of Dutch clubs.

  11. If it's true and nothing is done, we end up with 16 clubs in the Eredivisie in the end, which plan was fiercely opposed by the addressed clubs.

I read today that Ajax received about €11M from Eredivisie television revenues. Contrast this with the €110M that each EPL team gets and you see why Dutch football is in trouble.

Liverpool's TV revenues are probably equal to the wages in total of the top three Eredivisie teams.. More can be found here: https://twitter.com/SwissRamble

  19. New salary hurdle of the Eredivisie released.
The player from outside the EU has to earn a minimum of 436,202 (20 yr or older) or 218,000 (18 & 19 YO).
    https://www.ad.nl/nederlands-voetbal/dit-verdient-een-eredivisiespeler-gemiddeld-per-jaar~a2060169/
