it only became a meaningless match after today, what relegated H96 was that Stuttgart beat Wolfsburg, had Stuttgart lost, they would still have been alive. Today was their official relegation day.

Seems like Hannover are set for a big clear-out. 15 players are expected to leave the club this summer.
There are also some doubts over Soto's future at the club because contract talks continue to stall.

the U19 Nord/Nordost is the weakest league from the 3 and tbh, what one does in U19 isn't really indicative of the future.

Soto is not in H96's final 1BL matchday squad of the season so he ends up with 3 games and 25 min. Next season they are 2BL.

What's the equivalent of that league? Would it be like semi-pro? 4th/5th division?

none, it's youth level. 4th(RL) and lower players play vs adults.

With Hannover relegated to the 2BL next season, I would assume opportunities will come for both Soto and Gloster. Not a bad league to cut your teeth. Soto is one I am going to keep an eye one next season starting with the U20 WC.

    Good article.

Interesting nugget: mentions Dortmund is circling if he doesn't sign an extension with Hannover.

Concerning Nugget: fans of Mexico and Chile blowing up his social media after his Bundesliga debut - and he was diplomatic about rather than dismissive of said interest.(he's eligible for both nations through his parents)

No dual-nat is going to completely dismiss all other options. Ledezma did it on the Scuffed podcast but seemed to quickly backtrack. It would be unwise for their career if they rule out international options at such a young age. I'm sure Mexico would have loved to have Soto for the U-20 WC but he's with the US. If he keeps developing on the same path he's on and barring catastrophe (failure to qualify for the WC), I've got no doubts that he will be a USMNT player and don't really see the need to worry.

it is strategic to not rule out countries and most players follow that strategy. that competition for commitment can be the difference in getting to actually suit up for a national team when leveraged well.

However, there are shades of diplomacy to the process that differentiate players - I think Soto could've been slightly less open to Chile and/or Mexico without ruling them out...

many "dual-nats" have no openness of ever playing for any other country than the one they identify with and make that known. soto didn't exactly do that here...but I agree that he is extremely likely to only ever play for the us.

Pretty late to ask, but how good is he? Does he have a shot at a regular role with the 1st team next season?

Saw some chatter on Twitter that Borussia Dortmund was interested in buying him off Hannover.

Sadly, I’ve never watched him in a real live match and went away feeling impressed with anything I’ve seen. Other than him being stocky, as I mentioned here.

I’m not sure I’m right, but I’m sort of halfway scared he’s just not very good.

Three reasons to be (somewhat) more cheerful
    1) a young kid still finding his feet in the pro game, and overseas at that.
    2) a crappy team circling a drain all season is a lousy platform for assessing whether said young kid can step up to BL1
    3) the summer clearout should open places in BL2, which is a decent league

Bottom line, let's wait and see. The mere fact that he's being monitored by the like of Dortmund is encouraging

Dortmund need a back up striker in the worst way but I am not sure that Soto would fit this mold just yet. I would imagine that they would bring Isak back first. I guess Dortmund wants to get him now before he blows up and costs them more? Only real thinking that I can see here but it wouldnt hurt for them to shop around the position of more strikers and hope to catch fire with one.

Soto's Mexican grandmother told him to play for his country of birth. Unless Chile come calling, I wouldn't worry about him playing for another country.
