Nothing particularly good or particularly good there. Worked hard.

He looks to be moving faster than before. His touch game is solid as always.

I thought that the diagonal ball ~1:25 and the moment ~3:16 where he dribbles one defender and then splits a 2nd with a through ball to Herber were both nice shows of skills. Again, I really hope Domme gives him more minutes because nothing here suggests he's not up to snuff compared to other players.

I still think his closing down and 1v1 marking needs work.

His lack of playing time at NYCFC allows Keaton to be a part of the weird pre-Gold Cup Camp camp:

    https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...ng-camp-roster-gold-cup-preparation-annapolis

He'll train with the non-MLS members of the Gold Cup provisional roster (except for CP, Mckennie, and Adams) from May 26th - June 1, then he'll head back to NYCFC. That means he will not play in the friendlies vs Jamaica and Venezuela. Still, it seems to suggest that USSF likes what they see from him and that he'll be an important part of the u23 team that starts Olympic qualification in October.

The Outfield (https://theoutfield.org/2019/05/20/pigeon-post/) is theorizing that he's essentially positionless due to changes in formation caused by early season struggles. He's now backing up Maxi Moralez and backing up a team's best player is a recipe for limited minutes.

Still, you'd think they'd find a way to get him on the field.

Less that he's backing up Moralez, more that the author thinks that he needs to play the Moralez role to get more playing time.

It doesn't say good things that he has fallen behind Tony Rocha, who was bad for Orlando and ineffectual for Orlando B, in the City pecking order.

That may fall on the manager, who always seems to me like he's flailing, or on Parks, who turns 22 this summer and hasn't managed to get consistent playing time anywhere above a reserve team.

Hopefully this US summer camp can put him on a good track.

NYCFC haven't lost since March. They've won four of their last five. This is with Keaton on the bench every game, coming in some of the time, and after a formation change.

So, I'd expect them to keep having Keaton on the bench and coming in some of the time, until injuries or tactics dictate changes.

He’ll be the McKennie of NYCFC.

Although he needs to start consistently first.

i think he's more likely to be the mixx diskerud of NYCFC...

the list is growing by the game ....mixx, lewis, shelton, mcnamara, parks, juan pablo torres, abdul-salaam, mullins etc....proven and /or promising americans all forced to the sidelines at that foreign-owned and controlled american club.

All of whom have done roughly ********-all since leaving, so maybe it's that they're overhyped rather than a concerted effort to crush American prospects or something.

McKennie in the sense that NYCFC thinks he’s position-less, or that they’ll play him anywhere.

Yeah, this. As someone who wanted most of these guys to get more time for my hometown team, and a few of them did get a ton of chances, none have proven to be superior to NYCFC's level and therefore mistakenly left out or let go yet.

there are not many players who can spend a good chunk of time at a club without much playing time and not have their subsequent careers take a pretty big hit....

In a league that no one here is capable of judging the quality of.

Apologies to anyone who is a dedicated K-League watcher.

I disagree. I think that water usually finds its level. Our players by and large play at the appropriate level for their abilities. More specifically,a lost season either due to a one-off injury or being out of favor doesn't usually ruin careers.

Mcnamara - goal in his latest MLS appearance (24 min)
Mixx - just scored a wonder-goal in Asian Champions League
Shelton - coming off a long-term injury but his club just got promoted to the Bundesliga
Lewis - starting for Colorado and earning good reviews after 2 games

no doubt in my mind that all 4 of the above players are indeed plenty good enough for MLS yet were sidelined by NYCFC - what do they all have in common? American.

the pattern is set....until it changes it is clear that NYCFC prefers foreign over domestic players. They will continue to play the absolute minimum # of Americans that MLS allows as a rule.

I was hopinf that bringing in torres, parks, keeping lewis etc was a sign that they want to start giving more minutes to americans but alas no.

Is it weird NYFC traded Lewis for money and GB keeps calling Lewis for the national team?

I don't think Lewis's call-ups are weird for that reason, but they sure are strange. Speaks to the total lack of depth the US has on the wings.

yeah. it is weird for that reason.

there has never been a USMNTer who can't get on the field for his MLS team.

27 minutes off the bench in a 5-2 City win v. Cincinnati last night. Parks got a yellow card in the 89th. That was his longest appearance of the season.

City plays North Carolina in the Open Cup on Wednesday the 12th. I expect that Parks will get a start in that one.

The other big moment worth mentioning is that James Sands broke his arm and is expected to be out 3-4 weeks. That's not Keaton's ideal spot (and definitely not how Domme sees Keaton), but it will force NYCFC to rejigger their midfield.

I watched the last 20 minutes and thought Keaton looked good against a pretty dreadful FCC team. OPTA stats showed him going 17/20 on his passes and having a few recoveries and interceptions.
