it's more than just playing for Canada though as he's provisionally capped tied having played in concacaf u20 games.

4, to the best of my knowledge. The 3 on Pacific FC and Mason Trafford. And 3 of those are dual US-Canadian citizens. This league went out of their way to avoid Yanks.
It's a flippant opinion on my part, but, out of the 49 foreign player slots open in the CPL, only one is filled by an American. Seems pretty low considering the much larger supply of roughly equivalent talent available in the US, only a short trip away. I'm sure there was no real concerted effort to keep Yanks out, but the low number is a bit surprising.
The best Americans are in MLS or overseas, I'm guessing that explained why teams preferred going with foreign players than USL players. Introducing different styles from different corners around the globe is also beneficial to the league.
