We have an official ruling from the Gods of BS that any Yank who signs in the new Canadian Premier League can be treated as a YA with the league being considered a 2nd tier league behind the Canadian MLS clubs.

With that, we have our 1st entry into YAA for playing in Canada:

    NOAH VERHOEVEN
    Midfielder

    • Birth Year: 1999
    • Hometown: Surrey, BC
    • Previous Club: Surrey United SC

He's been in camp with the US U18s and U20s, so he's a dual citizen with Canada. He's mostly been playing for Canada lately.

Most recently with Fresno FC in the USL.

Half of the players in that league might be US eligible. Do we need to bring all them into this forum and totally screw it up?

AFAIK, there are three players in the entire CPL with American citizenship.

4, to the best of my knowledge. The 3 on Pacific FC and Mason Trafford. And 3 of those are dual US-Canadian citizens. This league went out of their way to avoid Yanks.

@butters59 is going to be so mad when he finds out about Liga MX academies.

    It's sanctioned as Division 1

You'll have to explain why you think that

It's a flippant opinion on my part, but, out of the 49 foreign player slots open in the CPL, only one is filled by an American. Seems pretty low considering the much larger supply of roughly equivalent talent available in the US, only a short trip away. I'm sure there was no real concerted effort to keep Yanks out, but the low number is a bit surprising.

The best Americans are in MLS or overseas, I'm guessing that explained why teams preferred going with foreign players than USL players.

Introducing different styles from different corners around the globe is also beneficial to the league.
