hasn't played for the 1st team since March. Last made the bench 5 matches ago. That doesn't look promising for 1st team chances, only playing 2 games and 21 min, playing no role in their promotion. seems to have played in 5th division/OL for II. 2 goals and 1 assist in 5 games.
He was pretty seriously injured upon arrival. But yeah, promotion doesn't bode well for his playing time next season.
of course no guarantees he will actually play in the Bundesliga - but he's a lot closer to that happening now than ever before....if Haji Wright can do it...Shelton can. My personal feeling is that since he was recently injured and returned and the club signed him for a 3 year deal - they rate him and will give him a chance....why would they sign him at all if they didn't see something?? i hope that he will take a leap from the new environment in Germany - different coaching - I always felt that MLS failed to get the best out of him BIG-TIME.... there have been other Americans who played in college/MLS and went to Germany and got a lot better - there's a chance that happens with him, too....
its' only a 2 and a half years contract so only 2 seasons left after half of pretty much nothing.. I mean even Mohammed Kamara who came at the same time as Shelton did well for the II team and is 4 years younger.
I'm just trying to be happy that FINALLY a 2BL American got promoted to the BL.... whether he plays or not - it is good, imo. Are you 100% sure Shelton will never play in the Bundesliga?
who knows but that he was essentially irrelevant to promotion doesn't help him besides the club has tons of options including 3 guys on loan and the possibility that the club loan in striker or buys more isn't out of question.
